Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: jacqui.c Date: 21 Sep 04 - 07:26 AM Bruce - I asked Two Bears to work on this some time ago - hopefully that will lessen the problem and make the resolution easier. Little Hawk and Daylia were also going to do some work as well. My neighbour in England is a healer and also is sending vibes so we've got a lot of help, plus all the good thoughts from Mudcatters everywhere. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Hollowfox Date: 21 Sep 04 - 07:15 PM Blast it, this will teach me not to goof off on reading the 'Cat! I'm so happy that you and Jacqui are to wed, and who better to officiate than Sandy Paton? I'll raise a glass for you both on that day, and who knows, maybe one or two before that. Oh yeah, about that other detail...well, the @#$%-reduction candle series starts up in about an hour when I get home from work. Be well, Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: kendall Date: 24 Sep 04 - 07:59 PM I had my CAT scan today, was supposed to meet with my ENT for the results but he had to put me off until Monday. Three more days to agonize. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Kaleea Date: 24 Sep 04 - 08:49 PM Chin up, Kendall, we're all sending you positive thoughts & prayers! Cat-itude!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: GUEST,Augie Date: 24 Sep 04 - 10:33 PM Hang tough Kendall I have, as I'm sure many Mudcatters have, spent a damned eternity waiting for biopsy results to come back, and I have like others, when the news finally came, heard the disembodied, uneasy voice on the other end of the phone saying, "I'm sorry,but...". My prayers-if thats ok- go with you.I truly hope things check out alright, but if they don't you can take some solace in the notion that if a wussie like me can hold off the big C for almost 5 years (and counting) then anybody can. All the Best |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: kendall Date: 25 Sep 04 - 04:45 AM Having cancer is not my main concern. Losing my singing voice is the big one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: CapriUni Date: 25 Sep 04 - 08:08 AM Tut! Losing your singing voice may be your big concern, but our main concern is losing the whole of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Big Mick Date: 25 Sep 04 - 08:41 AM Thanks, CapriUni, for saying what I was about to. Some times this crusty old son of a misbegotten deck ape doesn't get that we don't love him because of his voice. It's him that we care about. Quite frankly, I could care less if he sings and tells jokes, writes songs and passes me notes with great lines, or if he tattoos them on his wrinkled old ass. It is only important to me that I still have him as my friend, and mentor. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: annamill Date: 25 Sep 04 - 11:51 AM Go easy my friend. I am sending out love and good thoughts. Don't cut down the whole tree because one branch was struck by lightning. Cement up the broke spot and grow another branch. There's a whole lot of you to love. Annamill |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Tinker Date: 25 Sep 04 - 12:26 PM Ya know, most of Mudcat has never heard your voice. But we continue to hear you in every short and pithy post. We expecct to continue "hearing" you. Now I'll just go out to the garden and call SINS and see if we can dream up more ways to embarrass you with our love.... Beware.... lots of "simply" postitive stuff is coming your way. Love Ya, Tinker |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Dani Date: 25 Sep 04 - 03:58 PM Trust Mick to make me spit out my bean and cheese burrito.... I've got a minute between lunch and dinner messes/shifts at the restaurant, and checked in here. I'll be thinking of you this weekend, and on Monday. Your wait reminds me of that obnoxious poster, "Any asshole can handle a crisis, it's the day-to-day living that grinds you down!" Insert 'waiting', right? I'm with you. Don't mind pain, as much as waiting and wondering. And, Kendall, listen to these folks. It may be your voice that YOU'D miss, but ask the rest of these folks what they're worried about.... Janie? Tinker? Jacqui? Ladies? Anyone? Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: jacqui.c Date: 25 Sep 04 - 04:25 PM I was very attracted to this guy before I even met him - purely from the things he wrote - and have only ever known him since he has had a problem with his voice. I love Kendall for what he is now - not for the voice I never heard until AFTER I knew that I loved him. I must admit that when I listened to Beginner's Luck for the first time I cried because I could go somewhere toward understanding his loss then, but he makes me laugh and I know that I have found someone I want to spend my life with, whether or not he can ever sing again. Kendall knows this because I've told him so but he can be a stubborn b****r! I would prefer Kendall without a singing voice to no Kendall at all. I'm glad that others are now telling him the same thing - he still has a lot he can do - storytelling can still be done, even if he can't sing, he can play a mean guitar and he can write another book of tall tales. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: bbc Date: 25 Sep 04 - 11:16 PM jacqui, you stated it very movingly. We have been telling him & telling him, but, as you noted, he is a tad stubborn. We all know he is more than his voice; he's the only one who still needs to be convinced of it. Kendall, I hope you get what you want, but I hope even more that we get to keep you! best, Barbara |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Sep 04 - 09:45 AM Of course we understand the loss--losing other parts of our functionality is a shock, surgical removal of an organ or a limb, but our eyes, ears, and voice, those are our interface with the world. Losing any one of those makes the other two work harder and means things will never be exactly the same again. Kendall, your friends and loved ones are urging you to choose life. Make the choice that to you and your doctors gives you the best chance for a long and curmudgeonly life. And if you have a few options to choose between with the same relative outcome, then you're fortunate and can choose to give yourself the most latitude. As a friend told me when I was making a similar choice regarding cancer surgery, "don't choose based on recuperation from the surgery, choose based on recovering from the cancer." Good luck! |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Megan L Date: 26 Sep 04 - 03:54 PM Aw bairns i missed this with being down south at hospital with my stubborn bissim. You are Both in our thoughts and prayers. Jacqui write it in the biggest thickest book you can find and keep hitting him with it till he gives in, mine came up with a beaut while in hospital "If i had known i was going to put you through all this I would never have married you." yeah right like they have any choice :) Of course its not wrinkled Kendal my dear, it is just gently folded at regular intervals. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: SINSULL Date: 26 Sep 04 - 04:13 PM "and you just don't look good naked anymore" Kendall, I have been in your house. There are two mirrors - one in the bathroom and a big one in the living room. I have a hard time picturing you balancing on a futon or the toilet seat trying to get a good look at your butt. How do you know it's not wrinkled? More importantly, how does Amos know it is? Inquiring minds want to know. SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Ellenpoly Date: 27 Sep 04 - 04:23 AM See, Kendall, we're all saying much the same thing. You are not just your voice. Nor just a wrinkled ass. And you have the love of a good woman who loves both in any state they happen to be. Much luck today..xx..e |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 27 Sep 04 - 07:15 AM Kendall, trust me, I understand. Your statements remind me of things I once said. Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Rapparee Date: 27 Sep 04 - 07:44 AM Hey, I go away for a couple of weeks on a ship and come back to this?!? Kendall, you might be the cap'n, but there's mutiny in the wind. Listen to the crew. Know this, too: my wife has had one functioning vocal cord since she was 17. Thyroid cancer; the surgery froze one and nicked the one that's left. She can't shout and sings only in church (and admits that she doesn't do it very well). BUT!! You annoy her and she can blister the tar off a rope. She's going on 43 or 44 years cured of cancer. If she can do it, so can you. She says that she never considered any other option than complete cure, then or now. You gonna let a GIRL beat ya? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Tinker Date: 27 Sep 04 - 07:59 AM Wrong ??? Ya got a bevy of beauties clamouring for your presence and wit and you have the nerve to ask where you went wrong !!!!! Really Captin. tinker |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Janie Date: 27 Sep 04 - 08:29 AM Kendall, where you went wrong was using that damned BOTOX to keep your ass from wrinkling, and then bragging about it on the forum! I hope and pray you do not lose your singing voice, but....what everyone else has said. Continued prayers and good thoughts your way. Janie |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Amos Date: 27 Sep 04 - 11:17 AM Excuse me, but the reference to Kendall's as being wrinkled came from that over-built Irishman in the corner with the Union label and the handfull oof raw spuds...Gawd only knows what he carries them around for...not from me! Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: GUEST Date: 27 Sep 04 - 11:20 AM Absolutely right, Amos; I'd sue for slander! ;) bbc P.S.--Which raises the equally interesting question--How did Mick know? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Mudlark Date: 27 Sep 04 - 12:40 PM Kendall...hope you are able to take in all the love, affection, admiration and good advice here...if not now, then soon. It is very hard to be threatened with loss of a part of yourself, especially something that you've identified yourself by and with for so many years. Nothing wrong with taking the hit, feeling the pain, going down into dispair...it's all there and has to be dealt with. But given your spirit, and with Jacqui keeping your back, I know you will triumph over this, no matter what the outcome. I send healing thoughts every day...bon courage, mi capitain! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: jacqui.c Date: 27 Sep 04 - 12:56 PM I've just heard from Kendall that the cancer hasn't grown or spread and that the doctor thinks that it can be dealt with by way of laser surgery. He will have to see the specialist in Boston on Thursday to confirm that he is suitable for laser treatment but at least the cancer is still contained. Great relief all round I think but I will be glad when I can join him in Maine - he gets up to too much trouble left on his own! (Only joking Kendall!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Rapparee Date: 27 Sep 04 - 01:45 PM Dadgum, it reminds me of the time my brother drank a half gallon of Jake Skeeter's 'shine and discovered that ol' Jake didn't distill it through old car radiators after all! That was shore good news then and this here is good news now. Jacqui, you keep the old reprobate in line, ya hear? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's biopsy From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Sep 04 - 01:57 PM Thanks, Jacqui, that sounds like he has a lot of options and can have a gravelly voice, a saggy ass, and be a curmudgeon all at once! (Are you sure you want to go to all of the trouble to move to the U.S. for that?) SRS |
