Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 07 - 05:36 PM Here's a Suite of music from all three movies. No lyrics or audio, but maybe you can figure out a title from them. Do you know which movie and which character sang it? |

Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: s&r Date: 26 Mar 07 - 05:19 AM "Speak softly love" recorded by Andy Williams et al? Stu |
Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: PoppaGator Date: 26 Mar 07 - 05:54 PM If you like "Che La Luna" and "Oh Mama," you'll love the late Louis Prima (probably best known for his duet with wife Keely Smith on "Old Black Magic"). Quintessential Italian-American party music. If the song you'reinterested is one of the kmore sentimental/lyrical love songs, well that's something else again ~ not Louis (pronounced Louie, like in French). |
Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: GUEST,Bardan Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:55 PM O sole mio contains the line "che bella cosa". Doubt it's the one you're looking for since everyone knows it but you never know. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: Roberto Date: 31 Mar 07 - 02:22 PM Parla più piano (soundtrack to the movie The Godfather. Mind: not a traditional song, nor a Sicilian song: just a modern song) Parla più piano che nessuno sentirà il nostro amore lo viviamo io e te nessuno sa la verità nemmeno il cielo che ci guarda da lassù Parla più piano, vieni qui vicino a me voglio sentire gli occhi tuoi dentro di me nessuno sa, la verità nemmeno il cielo che ci guarda da lassù Vicino a te io resterò amore mio, sempre così A rough translation: Speak in a lower voice, nobody shall hear Out love it is something between me and you Nobody knows the truth Not even the sky that looks down on us from above Speak in a lower voice, come closer to me I want to feel your eyes inside of me Nobody knows the truth Not even the sky that looks down on us from above Close to you I shall remain My love, forever |
Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: s&r Date: 01 Apr 07 - 05:49 AM Much free-er version as above "Speak softly, love and hold me warm against your heart I feel your words, the tender trembling moments start Were in a world, our very own Sharing a love that only few have ever known Wine-colored days warmed by the sun Deep velvet nights when we are one Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky The vows of love we make will live until we die My life is yours and all becau-au-se You came into my world with love so softly love (instrumental interlude> Wine-colored days warmed by the sun Deep velvet nights when we are one Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky The vows of love we make will live until we die My life is yours and all becau-au-se You came into my world with love so softly love" Stu |
Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: Roberto Date: 01 Apr 07 - 03:49 PM Yes, s&r, but yours is a singable text in English, not a translation. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: Genie Date: 01 Apr 07 - 06:09 PM PoppaGator, I agree that people who like Italian music should check out Louis Prima and Keely Smith. For the record, the song you referred to (which was featured at the wedding reception in The Godfather) is "C'é 'na Luna (or C'é La Luna) Mezz' o Mare," not "Che 'na Luna ..." (Don't feel bad though. That's an easy confusion of Italian with Spanish spelling. When I was looking for this song and started a thread for it, I accidentally slipped into French and spelled it "C'est La Luna ... ") Genie |

Subject: RE: Origins: Name of Italian song in The Godfather From: Roberto Date: 02 Apr 07 - 04:04 AM s&r, I didn't mean to criticize, but to inform you that the original italian text means roughly what I attempted to translate. R |
