D'Cats--

I've searched the Forum, and there are lots of threads that mention Italian songs. What I'd like is pointers to a few instrumental numbers that would be appropriate for background music at an Italo-Irish wedding party.

I collected a mess of tarantelli from Jon's ABC tune finder, along with Funiculi-funicula, which was a request.

Any other suggestions?

V

For real italian traditional music, I'd suggest this site: www.felmay.it, with CDs by groups such as La Ciapa Rusa, Baraban, La Piva dal Carner, La Rionda, etc. Roberto

Really catchy tunes from Pontecaffaro they have a cd for carnival, and some have been pinched by the committee band UK.

Forget the "real Italian Folk music" and check this: Cornice Inferiore It has the lyrics and a selection of midi files of nearly every "Neopolitan" tune that there is--these are the tunes that you hear at Italian Weddings, in the soundtracks of movies, and in Italian restaurants--it is the music that everybody everywhere knows--the problem with "authentic" Italian folk music is that it is *very* regional, and will only be familiar to folks from the specific area that the music is from(at least if you're lucky)--

I remember once going to a lot oftrouble finding recordings of songs collected in the region where my family came from, only to find that, not only were they unfamiliar to my grandmother, but they weren't even in the same dialect that they spoke--

The nice thing about Neopolitan tunes is that they have great melodies, so that singing is optional--a guitar and one or more melody instrument will be all you need--(no one ever understands the lyrics anyway, because they are mostly in dialect)
