Supporters of the US government's conspiracy theory about the events of September 11 have been pointing to an article which appeared in Popular Mechanics magazine. Most people have known all along this so-called "scientific" "debunking" piece is itself bunk, but now philosopher and theologian David Ray Griffin has written a book debunking the Popular Mechanics piece, the NIST report on 9/11, and a couple of other phony government pieces.
In an interview with Griffin I heard on the radio, he said the question he's usually asked first about 9/11 is "How could a government do that to its own citizens?" He said he responds by talking about the actions of the Environmental Protection Agency after 9/11. They declared Manhattan's air "safe," and as a result, 40,000 people who helped with the clean-up will die from asbestos and chemical poisoning. So, if a government would misuse its agencies to issue deadly reassurances that will cause 40,000 deaths, why would it not carry out an event that would result in 3,000 deaths?
