Subject: Amazon.com - problems? From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 24 Jun 07 - 04:34 PM I buy quite a few cds and books from Amazon. Recently, I received an item that I hadn't ordered. Have any other Mudcaters had similar problems with Amazon? |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Jun 07 - 04:37 PM They keep updating me on the progress of an order I placed last December, and they later said they couldn't supply it and cancelled the order, but they're still updating me on it!! G |

Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: GUEST,Mike in DC Date: 24 Jun 07 - 06:31 PM I got an e-mail from someone purporting to be Amazon telling me that they had noticed attempts to access my account from a "foreign IP address" and suggesting I follow the link they provided. It was addressed to Dear Customer rather than to me personally. I didn't follow the link of course, but it did give pause, since I've sent Amazon a lot of my money over the years. Mike |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 24 Jun 07 - 07:00 PM These scam attempts ride the back of every large company using the internet. Automatically delete and forget. |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Jun 07 - 07:28 PM I order a lot through amazon.mudcat.org, so Mudcat gets a percentage. I've had a little problem every now and then, but every matter has been resolved to my satisfaction with just an e-mail. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jun 07 - 07:30 PM I got a Nigerian scam attempt addressed to "gedcom" so it figures they've gone after anyone interested in genealogy. The only problem I've had with Amazon was an indie seller whose product never came and were not willing to send a dupe. |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: Mickey191 Date: 24 Jun 07 - 07:45 PM Ordered a book from a known dlr. (out of print) I then rec'd. notice from a dlr. who was not listed anywhere by Amazon. I cancelled--but it was already on the way. Amazon was of no help--didn't explain how 1 unknown dlr. got the order. He & I had to fix the problem-pain in the neck. |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 25 Jun 07 - 09:17 AM Only once have they sent me something intended for someone else. I offered to return it but they told me to keep it! All the things I've ordered (TOO MANY CDs the wife says!) have arrived or eventually cancelled if unavailable. I have picked up several OP items in mint unwrapped condition at cheap prices through their associates, again, no problems. RtS |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: RangerSteve Date: 25 Jun 07 - 02:11 PM No problems. BLut I'm often amazed at their logic. I ordered a bunch of CD's of Mexican folk music and for months after recieved emails tellimg me about the latest Ricky Martin CD's. To them, Mexican folk and Puerto Rican pop are the same. Also, I ordered a CD of field recordings from Mike Seeger's personal collection, and got an Email stating that since I ordered that one, then they were sure I'd like a CD by James P. Johnson (jazz pianist). Although I am a Johnson fan, I don't understand the connection. |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: GUEST,Seiri Omaar Date: 25 Jun 07 - 08:44 PM I ordered a book I needed for school (basically an English reference book) from the Amazon market. I got the "Pocket Version" of the book instead, in spite of being VERY careful about ordering the right book. I got it elsewhere instead, and was thoroughly peeved about it. |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: JohnInKansas Date: 25 Jun 07 - 10:59 PM I haven't ordered anything recently, but my son placed an order 4 months ago for an item that was listed as "average delivery 4 to 7 days. He received a notice that "shipment would be delayed," and a subsequent notice that the item would be shipped "when available" with an estimate of "within 30 days." The item still has not been shipped, and is still listed on their website as "availabe for shipment, 4 to 7 days." We assume that it is unlikely that it will ever be received. But since he used my email address for tracking purposes, I get 2 per week notices of things they think he'd also like to order. As noted above, I see no relationship between the "suggestions" and the item ordered - unless they think he might be interested purely on the supposition that they might actually deliver something of another kind. It does appear that they might be outgrowing their ability to deliver expected service, and especially expected believability. John |
Subject: RE: Amazon.com - problems? From: Becca72 Date: 26 Jun 07 - 09:23 AM I have had no problems at all buying or selling things on Amazon. The one item I bought from a seller that never showed up was refunded quickly by Amazon. Almost all of what I purchase is "used" from private sellers and 99.9% of the transactions have gone super smooth. I don't get the emails sent to tell me what else they think I might like, which is fine by me since I get enough junk already. |
