Subject: BS: Reverend Wright said, God Damn America'
From: sirmago

Reverend Wright said, "God Damn America," and his request was answered!

We currently have a President and Congress that not only includes Democrats (mindless socialists) but a number of useless hacks called Republicans.   A Democratic Senator said yesterday that we the American people don't care about a little pork (a few billion dollars worth that is tainted) in the Stimulus bill. According to him, in order to make the Stimulus salad palatable, we need some pork accompanied by a large smattering of democratic manure. Folks, the meals on the menu for the next four and maybe eight years, with its awful taste and smell, will be a revelation to our overweight society. During the election, I sent out a blog agreeing that this new misfit from Chicago running for President was a wonderful speaker but his words had no substance. His words still have no substance, he said to the CEO's invited to the White House at the end of January, that they were the impetus for returning America to its strong global economic standing.   Only ten days later, he has a press conference and says, the Government, his government will be the impetus for returning America to its strong global economic standing.

As is the case with most interns and believe me, from my perspective, he is an intern. He is a micro-manager and the only thing we know for sure about him, is that he is elusive and has no leadership knowledge to fall back on. His handling of the lady asking for a house with a toilet, bath, and kitchen was superb. "See my staff when we are finished here and they will help you." There are millions of people like this women that sees the President as the Messiah, and they are waiting for him to turn the one fish and one loaf of bread into enough to feed all those folks like that lady. His Executive Orders are all useless but typical issues to show us that he is omnipotent. His responses on all of these issues are irresponsible because he never thought out the consequences. He is a Peter Principle person, promoted to a position beyond his capability. On GITMO he acted to try all the prisoners and move them out into prisons in the USA. Why not try them and if they are guilty put them back in GITMO or send them back to IRAQ or wherever. On providing financial support for International abortion clinics and sexual diseases, has he failed to reconcile our poor citizens in Appalachia that need fresh water, food, clothing and better schools? This President is unaware that Appalachia exists. He is unaware that these are our people. He is unaware and has not mentioned the unemployed and homeless Veterans that made his running for President possible because they fought while he sat on his duff smoked pot and drank a beer with a voter.

I was in the service, not a hero like those fighting servicemen in the wars that we were in since I was born. I was in a support function in the service of my country in Korea. I love my country and would die to protect it and its citizens. We must ask the question, would this President do the same? I apologize for using God name in vain, perhaps Reverend Wright got us what he asked for.

I was in the service, not a hero like those fighting servicemen in the wars that we were in since I was born. I was in a support function in the service of my country in Korea. I love my country and would die to protect it and its citizens. sirmago

..... and this makes you special, how? I have a newsflash for you, son. There are a number of us "Democrats (mindless socialists)" who put on the uniform of our country, shed some blood, and love it with all our hearts. Some of us even think that community organizing, union organizing, working with the poor, seeking to solve the problems of poverty, and educating cliche' spouting numbskulls like you, is every bit the patriotic service that our military time was. You really ought to learn to think on your own instead of applying catch all cliche's that some news(?)hound wants you to buy into.

This problem was created by folks like you voting for the bunch that has now been discredited. Have you tried to get a job lately? Have you looked at your retirement account? Have you ever wondered, like I have, how average folks could be raped by the capitalist elite and still spout the rhetoric that the same elite want you too. Wake up, sirmago. You are a pawn of those that would destroy you. This man is three weeks into a campaign of undoing 20+ years of Reaganomic inspired insanity. It will take years to fix. .....or ...... go ahead and continue being a puppet for those that think you should be a serf.

rant off,

Mick

"It's called the American Way."

That's a pretty gratuitous non-sequitur, considering no one here intimated it was unAmerican.

Actually I meant to write "beat back', by implication by the vote.

What Wright meant was not the country but the people who ran it at the time.
He was a marine. He actually served unlike those he criticized.

He said this in an emotional manner designed to get his congregation to think about the
excesses and destructive actions of BushCo.

The Republicans picked up on this to discredit him.

He should have said "God damn Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush" and that would have been clearer.

My teen stepson Mike (anger mgmt issues) once towered over me and growled, "I pray for your death, on a nightly basis..." I doubled over in laughter because all I could see was Mike, nightly opening a channel to God, and God will use that channel as HE sees fit. If Mike was talking to Huim, then it was logical that he';d have to listen back, too.

"I don't think He hears that kind of prayer the way you think he does, Mike," I gasped.

I reckon Rev. Wright is learning a bit about that, too. Probably heard an earful by now. :~)

How come the rest of us are still giving Wright an audience, though?

He's still being given an audience because it is a handy excuse for some people who still wish to use something Wright said in one isolated moment of passion to attack the entire overall credibility of Barack Obama or the Obama administration.

Not logical, but still a handy excuse. How about bringing up Jane Fonda yet one more time too, simago? There's gotta be a way to drag her name into some kind of attack on Obama, doesn't there?

Amen, Mick. I'm glad you still have the energy and patience to talk back to this kind of stupidity. I've about run out.

Just like that asshole "Joe the Plumber," who rejected Obama's proposal that would reduce his real-life current-day tax bill because he's afraid of how much tax he would have to pay if he were to suddenly start taking in more than a quarter-million a year, net, after deductions.

There are people, few in number but quite powerful, who benefit greatly when ordinary Joes are more concerned about the welfare of the wealthiest 2% of the population than they are about themselves. They're pretty sophisticated at knowing the right buttons to push when they want to arouse the anger of a large, frustrated segment of the population who are not inclined to think for themselves ~ not critically, anyway ~ and are ripe for the plucking by those who would do their political thinking for them.

Obama tried..and is STILL trying.. to listen and be bi-partisan, but conservatives are proving the old saw "give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile." They have some confused notion that the only way to show you are bi-partisan is to do it all their way! They made little or no effort to take Democratic suggesions for 8 years, but now they say they will drag their muddy feet and vote down every plan unless they get to put in the same ideas that **CAUSED** this mess!

What part of "we won, so we get to try a different path" do you not understand?

This was, just a few minutes ago, sent to me by my son who lives in Europe, and who is as Hard Left on political issues as anybody at Mudcat, and ecomomic issues as well.

I have changed nothing except deleting previous and later personal stuff. Except I have put a clarification or two in brackets for clarity.

I believe the Michael Hudson, whom he quotes, was/is Dennis Kucinich's economic advisor:

More importantly, the more I see [it] the US stuff as a total scam, absolutely criminal. Geithner's plans should be taken to court -- they are a complete rip-off. And the bits about helping mortgage owners?? There's a sting in the tail. This excerpt is from today's Michael Hudson article in Counterpunch and is frightening (about the ``bad bank'' part). Unfuckingbelievable:

"The "Bad" bank that the Obama plan decided was not quite ready to be created this week will take the form of a public/private partnership (PPP), of the sort that Tony Blair made so notorious in Britain. It will be financed with private funds – in fact, with the funds now being given to re-capitalize America's banks (headed by the Wall St. banks that have done so poorly). Banks will use the money they receive from the Treasury for selling their junk mortgages at par – along with other bailout funding – to buy shares in a new $5 trillion institution. Something like Fanny Mae or Freddie Mac will be created and its bonds guaranteed (that's the "public" part – "socializing" the risk). The PPP institution will start with, say, $3 trillion in funds, and will have the power to buy and renegotiate the mortgages that have passed into the hands of the government and other holders. This "Middle Class Homeowner Recovery Trust" will use its private funding for the "socially responsible" purpose of "saving the taxpayer" and homeowners by renegotiating the mortgage down from its original $500,000 to the new $250,000 price.

"Here's the patter talk you can expect, with the usual Orwellian euphemisms. The "rescue the homeowners" PPP, a veritable Savior Bank, will go to a family strapped by its home mortgage debt and feeling more and more desperate as the price of its major asset plummets deep into Negative Equity territory. An offer will be made: "We've got a deal to save you. We'll renegotiate your mortgage down to $250,000, the current market price, and we'll also lower your interest rate to just 5.50 per cent. This will cut your monthly debt charges by nearly two thirds. You will escape from negative equity, and you can afford to stay in your home."

"The family probably will say, "Great."

"But they will have to make a concession. That's where the new public/private partnership makes its killing. Its Savior Bank, funded with private money that is to take the "risk" (and also the rewards) will say to the family that agrees to renegotiate its mortgage: "Now that the government has taken a loss while we've let you stay in your home, we need to recover the money that's been lost. So when the time comes for you to sell, or to renegotiate your mortgage, our Savior Bank will receive the capital gain up to the original amount written off. If we've made you whole, we want to be made whole too."

"In other words, if the homeowner sells the property for $400,000, the Savior Bank will get $150,000 of the capital gain. If the property sells for $500,000, the bank will get $250,000. And if it sells for more, thanks to some new clone of Alan Greenspan acting as bubblemeister, the capital gain will be split in some way. If the split is 50/50, then if the home sells for $600,000, the owner at that time will split the $100,000 further capital gain with the Savior Bank. The Savior Bank will thus make much more through its share of capital gains than it extracts in interest!

"This plan will be even better for Wall Street than the Greenspan bubble was! Last time around, it was the middle class that got the gains. To be sure, it really was the bank that got the gains, because mortgage interest charges absorbed the entire rental value. But at least homeowners had a chance at the free ride, if they didn't squander their money in refinancing their mortgages. And many did use their homes "like a piggy bank" to support their living standards."

I guess you don't have to be a Conservative to find heavy flaws in Pres. Obama's programs.

As far as Rev. Wright goes, for all I know the guy had been in the service and in any case he was exercising his right of free speech and in any case that was pretty much the only 'bad' blurb they could find on him in a long career to festoon the airwaves with. And for another thing it's okay to be angry sometimes.

The internet has taken the place of the broadside. There's more out there than can possibly be true. . .

John, it would not surprise me a bit if the policies being put in place right now have one primary real beneficiary in mind: the largest international banks.

Why? Because that's the way it's been for a very long time now in the entire western world, not just the USA. Those banks run the governments. They do it unofficially, they do it secretly (through the power of the vast amounts of fictional money and real debt that they create), and they do it entirely for their own gain as self-serving, profit-making entities with no loyalty to any society or any moral credo. A government that does not cooperate with them is brought down by them.

Obama may know that. He may not know it. If he does know it, he is probably also aware that he can't do anything about it, and that if he really tried to, he would soon end up dead.

This isn't a liberal/conservative issue at all. This is a great and corrupt international banking system that has taken over the world over the last few centuries, and it controls the various governments by ensuring that they are always so massively in debt to it that they simply cannot survive without continuing to play its game...which is the collection of the ever enlarging interest on their ever-enlarging debts.

As for the rest of us little people...do you really think the owners of the banks give a hoot about that?

Out of curiousity, Little Hawk.... where do you get this information? If Obama can't figure it out and can't find anyone who knows the 'truth' to limit it, how do plain folks like ...ummm... you, work out the details?

I really, really wish everyone would give this new administration some time and help to SHOW they are working to change some of the ways things work.

I got it from a number of places, Bill. I didn't figure it out, I was informed by people who did that for me. The first one I would point you to is a lengthy video about our bankind and debt system that you can find by going to either Dennis Kucinich's or Elizabeth Kucinich's website (can't quite remember which at the moment)...but hell, I knew about it 15 years ago. There was a Canadian politician (a former cabinet minister with an excellent reputation) who tried to start a new political party in Canada and alert the Canadian public to precisely the situation I am alluding to in regards to the banking and debt system.

His party got virtually no attention in the media...BIG surprise! The stuff he was saying was serious, lengthy, and complicated. No handy 5 second sound bites there. Accordingly, most people were hardly aware that new party existed, and they got very few votes. That's a simple way of keeping an idea off the public radar...just don't talk about it or pay any attention to it in the mainstream media. He who controls the pursestrings controls the agenda. Besides, the media are not interested in lengthy explanations of complicate stuff. They want HEADLINES. So you don't even need a "conspiracy" to keep it out of the news. You just need standard marketing bullshit as usual, and it will get little or no attention. It's too complicated for Joe Six-Pack to grasp anyway.

I've known about it ever since the early 90s, Bill, but I expect a blank look of incomprehension from people if I talk to them about it, and I know I can't do anything about that. The only reason I talk about it here is:

I enjoy expressing my thoughts now and then. No other reason at all.

I don't expect to convince you of anything, Bill. I don't expect to change anyone here of anything. I just enjoy expressing my thoughts. Period. And I shall probably continue to do so until I die.

But look for the video at the Kucinich's website if you are genuinely interested in researching the subject.

Will the public in general ever hear what Dennis or Elizabeth Kucinich have to say about it? Ha! ;-) I laugh at that notion. No, the public will get to hear the mainstream popular stuff, the headlines, the scandals, the murders, the pop stars, the disasters, business as usual, and that's it.

I wish Obama all the best, in any case. He may have figured it out. Not for me to say. That doesn't mean he's in a position to do squat about it. He, like the rest of us, must deal with the mass perceptions and the huge established financial power interests that are around him. They set the agenda. He rides the wave which that agenda produces, and it's a bucking bronco. That means he has to be a damn good rider or get thrown.

....or to "business as usual" (meaning greed). You don't need a conspiracy when you already have a ruling economic philosophy that is, in itself, a recipe for disaster. Extreme competence in pursuit of a disastrous and irresponsible objective (profit for a very few, regardless of dire consequence to many) results in even greater disasters than those caused by mere incompetence.

Sir Mago Responds to His Fans

Big Mick and Bill D are the first critics that I would like to respond to with regard to their most intellectual and factual responses to my writing. Both of you have "Spoken your Minds," and they are obviously void of anything sensible. As Jesse Jackson stated (paraphrased), it is an awful thing to waste a mind, think about that guys. The third intellectual giant that I am happy to address is PoppaGator. Sir or Madam, please read my book, "Flies in my Spaghetti, Chocolates over the Wall."   You will see how wrong your statement is. What cause have you decided to participate in, and are personally engaged in and personally helping anyone but yourself? Do you do anything besides spout off nonsense without facts? Go to my website www.alsgroup.org and help us to serve humanity with deeds and not misplaced words. Member WISIWYG, you are correct, but his statement was used to make a point, that this President may lead this country to damnation, to further his political career. This comment applies as well to a remark by Little Hawk about Rev Wright and Jane Fonda. To Stringsinger, you have an uncanny talent for missing the point, and I must congratulate you for that talent. Rapaire, your answer is as superb as your intelligence.

This next paragraph is in response to those members who may not agree with me but whom I admire for their answers. Wesley S, I wrote about a plan of action on McCain's Space prior to the election results. I agree with you that Sarah Palin is a person that should be on the next ticket. However, the tiny minds of Big Mick and Bill D may find it impossible to agree to your idea. Ebbie, and Peace, many thanks for your comments. John on the Sunset Coast, I think you and your son are right on target and his response is factual. This is something Big Mac (sorry I want to relate him to the hamburger with nothing in it worthwhile), I meant to say Big Mike and Bill D. will probably find your sons writings difficult to comprehend.   Little Hawk I take my hat off to you and your writings. Both you and John on the Sunset Coast's son should read about the Illuminati on the Internet. Your writings seem to suggest this type of global rule. I know it was touched on in the movie with Tom Hanks but never-the-less I think both of you will find it intriguing. Thanks to all for your remarks. Happy Valentine's Day you gorgeous people.

sm, I fear you misread my comment. You are one of the people who amaze me. Bill D and Big Mick consistently post thoughtful commentary and rarely fail to make supreme sense. OK?

I visited your website. I understand that you are and have been going through tough times and I applaud your efforts to find a cure for ALS.

Politically, however, rarely failing to make sense cannot be said of you.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

"...[Y}ou...should read about the Illuminati on the Internet."

sirmago, I thank you for the kind words about my son and me, but we part company when in comes to international conspiracies. Over the span of thirty-plus years I have heard folks like Lyndon LaRouche, and a former local (Los Angeles) talk show host, and read papers like The Spotlight all railing against the likes of the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers and Tri-Lateral Commission, and, for good measure, Masonry (I am not now, nor have I ever been a Mason).

I remember hearing how super secret these groups groups are. These were the first instances where I heard of the term, 'new world order'. I remember, that long forgotten radio host complained specifically about the secrecy of the Trilaterals, as he called them. That weekend I went to the local library--not a very large one as cities our size go--and found 10 volumes (years) of the proceedings of the Trilateral Commission. Some super secret group that!

There are lots of things wrong in the world, and by extension, the USA. But this not one of them.

Wright is not given an audience. He has one. What he said was misinterpreted purposely
by the Republican Rightwing. I knew what he meant even though I'm not religious.

Moving on doesn't mean sweeping dirt under the rug.

He was furious at Bush. We all should be critical of Bush. We gave Bush an audience for eight long miserable years.

If you're gonna call people names, you should probably look up the spelling first. It's 'elitist'.

You gotta step back and wonder when being smart became un-cool. I kept hearing 'elitist' during the presidential election, and thought it was fairly telling. Poor non-intelligent folks felt left out, I guess. I think maybe the ones who aren't (or are too complacent to try have to have some sort of name to call those who are, and do.

Buh-bye.

This guy is bizarre enough to be another of Little Hawk's personas, if he'd only thought of it first. A brother for Chongo and Shane.

From Amazon, on a book of his called The 14th and Final Crusade to the Middle East: Crusades from the 11th Century to the 21st Century

    Product Description
We are currently fighting a War in Iraq. The Middle East is in turmoil. Tribal names such as Sunni, Kurds, and Shiites, are bandied about by the media. Most people outside of the Middle East, do not have a clue as to how this puzzle in the sands and mountains fits together. JJ Conte's book will let the reader take a snapshot of ten centuries of religious wars in the Middle East, beginning with the nine Holy Crusades, and concluding with the current wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The first eight chapters are historical and all ten centuries culminate in a surprise ending in Chapter 9.

A surprise ending? Really?

    About the Author
J.J. Conte, Meteorologist and Senior Systems Engineer, retired after 38 years of employment with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the United States Air Force. After retirement he used his companies VIBES, Inc. and TAG for contract work for the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, General Sciences Corporation, and Building Contractors. Conte is listed in Who's Who in America, and Who's Who International Achievers. He also received the Department of Commerce Silver Medal. Conte's first book, Down the Yellow Brick Road, chronicled his journey as a caretaker and his wife's journey as a victim of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Conte's second book, Flies in my Spaghetti, Chocolates over the Wall, is anecdotal, with stories of travel from Europe to Japan with six kids, living seven years in England, etc. The book provokes the reader through simple memories, to mentally search their past, and realize that through all life's trials, they will persevere. J.J. is currently the Chairman of "The Constance Joan Schneider Conte ALS Group, Inc."

This appears to be a novel, also by this author:

    Product Description
Love is a many splendored thing, as we are reminded in a wonderful old film with William Holden and Jennifer Jones. Many ordinary people in the course of their lives find themselves in an extraordinary romantic situation. It may be on the loading dock, in an office, at a party, or just by a chance meeting. Who can really say how a romance happens? Most discard these romances after they realize that continuing down that path might ruin their marriage or break up their lover's marriage or for a number of other reasons. This story is about an Italian named Mario. Mario is one of those people who are not looking for romance but fall into the love trap; in this case a one-way love that he runs away from because of its trauma to him. The reader gets to travel with Mario to some exciting tourist places with exotic foods as he encounters other women and tries to shake off his love for Patricia, a married woman.

So it appears we have a self-published author writing his own blurbs over at Amazon and using those books to defend his arguments here. Using yourself to support your arguments, when you had to self-publish, isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the ideas.

Those descriptions are borrowed in a scholarly context from Amazon to allow further discussion of these books and a position from which we can understand the author's discourse. Since Amazon is a great link over here at Mudcat, where purchases help support the 'cat, it seems appropriate to bring them into the discussion. If anyone buys one of these books, please use the Amazon link so a little kickback goes to Mudcat.

The characterization of Obama is peculiar. Peter Principle?

Democrats are socialists? (odd statement).

Spending on infrastructure and education is pork?

He sat on his duff?

No he was a hard-working community organizer. This qualifies him
to be a president unlike Rudy Guiliani who screwed up at 911.

He is unaware that Appalachia exists?

Gitmo is illegal in violation of the Geneva Conventions and international law.

I guess there are those who think they can convince others with their prejudices
and misinformation and misinterpretations.

Regardin' those unfortunate remarks I made one time about the planet bein' better off if all the humans were gone and stuff like that...

I was under severe stress at the time. The rent was overdue and work was at an all-time low. I had also had a bit more whiskey than was probably wise that night and got asked to leave the bar by a damned human bartender! And then I discovered that a cop had left a ticket on my parked car! You hafta understand it was just not a good night fer me.

Then again...just in theoretical terms...the planet probably would be better off if all the humans were gone....

But I ain't sayin' I hate people and want 'em all dead! Uh-uh. Not me. No way. I may get impatient with people at times, but I don't hate most of 'em at all. Why, I even like a few of them. Some of my best friends are people. Matter of fact, I know some people who are almost simian.

This thread has, from the outset, reminded me of this. Edward Everett Horton, 1863:

...Nolan was proved guilty enough, as I say; yet you and I would never have heard of him, reader, but that, when the president of the court asked him at the close whether he wished to say anything to show that he had always been faithful to the United States, he cried out, in a fit of frenzy,—
"Damn the United States! I wish I may never hear of the United States again!"...
He never did hear her name but once again. From that moment, Sept. 23, 1807, till the day he died, May 11, 1863, he never heard her name again. For that half-century and more he was a man without a country.
Old Morgan, as I said, was terribly shocked. If Nolan had compared George Washington to Benedict Arnold, or had cried, "God save King George," Morgan would not have felt worse. He called the court into his private room, and returned in fifteen minutes, with a face like a sheet, to say,—
"Prisoner, hear the sentence of the Court! The Court decides, subject to the approval of the President, that you never hear the name of the United States again."
Nolan laughed. But nobody else laughed. Old Morgan was too solemn, and the whole room was hushed dead as night for a minute. Even Nolan lost his swagger in a moment. Then Morgan added,—
"Mr. Marshal, take the prisoner to Orleans in an armed boat, and deliver him to the naval commander there."
The marshal gave his orders and the prisoner was taken out of court.
"Mr. Marshal," continued old Morgan, "see that no one mentions the United States to the prisoner. Mr. Marshal, make my respects to Lieutenant Mitchell at Orleans, and request him to order that no one shall mention the United States to the prisoner while he is on board ship. You will receive your written orders from the officer on duty here this evening. The court is adjourned without day."

Well, you know, I think people should be forgiven for things they say in moments of frenzy. We have all said something regrettable in a moment of anger that we would not have said in any calmer moment. It's not something anyone should have to pay for for the rest of their life.

I think that people who are incapable of forgiveness are making a considerably greater error than someone who says something outrageous or unwise in a moment when he has lost control of his emotions.

The man who wrote the book you are alluding to, Rapaire, was trying to make a point about the value and enduring worth of patriotism and love of country. Thus he put together a dramatic story to illustrate the point....but there's no way a man should be banished for life from his own country for uttering something like that in a brief moment of anger.
