Subject: RE: Thank you for very warm Welcome From: Big Mick Date: 19 Jan 11 - 02:52 PM Ahhhh ....... That voice! It sure is great to have you here, and I love the handle you have chosen. I think the last time I saw you was when B, M, & T played The 10 Pound Fiddle at the Kiva on the Michigan State campus. I brought some Subway for you folks, and Ed and I talked about my recording of Along The Famine Road which he had taught to me. Sure was a while ago. I am just as happy as I can be that you have joined our company. I just wish Sandy was still here to join in the welcoming chorus. All the best, Big Mick Lane |
Subject: RE: Thank you for very warm Welcome From: Bill D Date: 19 Jan 11 - 02:56 PM Well, we're kinda weird at times...*grin*... but there's enough fun, knowledge and good people to keep one distracted. (and when we NEED more distraction, Kendall can provide..) Lots of things to learn...if you click the tiny 'faq' at upper right, there a lot of information about how to navigate the joint. Bill D...(who surprised you many years ago at a Bok, Trickett, Muir concert with a copy of your first 'blue' album to autograph) |

Subject: RE: Thank you for very warm Welcome From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Jan 11 - 05:31 PM Hello, Annie- I guess I'm a latecomer, because I hadn't heard of Bok-Muir-Trickett until the early 1990s. After that, I really wanted to see you perform, but the three of you didn't come here to California much then. I did have one chance, when you were performing in Concord, Mass. My nephew was performing in a school play that night, and I decided that family loyalty required my attendance. It was a very good school play, and it was the only chance I've had to see my nephew perform. Still, it makes me jealous of the East Coast people who had you for so long. I've met Gordon Bok and Ed Trickett at the annual October Getaway of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, which is also a gathering spot for many Mudcatters. It would be nice to meet you at the Getaway some October. I bought Notes from Across the Sea (on MP3) as soon as I saw it mentioned in the other thread, and I enjoyed it very much - but I hope we'll see a few new recordings of your singing in the future. Your recordings have introduced me to so many wonderful songs. Welcome to Mudcat! -Joe Offer, Colfax, California- |

Subject: RE: Thank you for very warm Welcome From: Art Thieme Date: 19 Jan 11 - 06:47 PM Anne. I recently posted a photo of you three on my Facebook page. It was at Sharon, CT. You were taking a break during a recording session for Sandy. I showed up almost a week early for my own session there at Folk Legacy.---Showing up unannounced and early was something so many of us musicians did a lot back then--the '80s. Caroline and Sandy never seemed to mind--matter of fact they always made me feel like it was my second home. -- But for me, hearing you and Ed and Gordon in the act of creating an LP was absolutely a pure delight. What a blend you folks created. "Freedom On The Wallaby", "I Knew This Place" --"Turning Toward The Morning"---and a hundred other favorites that kept me going on the road, from gig to gig, for so long... I just have to thank you, personally, in this public way. I hope you don't mind. Love to you and yours, Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: Thank you for very warm Welcome From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Jan 11 - 10:10 PM Now, Ann, if you'd like to feel at home at Mudcat, you can start by seeking out threads with discussions you can contribute to, like Nose flutes - who's making decent ones?. You may wish to stay away from the "What Is Folk?" discussions - they tend to get rather heated. My favorite threads are the song threads, and we have lots of them. -Joe- (I'm really tired of my Grover-Trophy plastic noseflute, and it sure would be nice to have something in highly polished, dark wood) |
