Subject: Gordon Bok From: kendall Date: 01 Apr 03 - 09:00 AM I don't know which category to enter this, so, I'll just give it out anyway. Gordon Bok is on his way to New Zealand and Australia for a series of performances over the rest of this month. Anyone interested can get the details on his web site; www.GordonBok.com |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Naemanson Date: 01 Apr 03 - 04:12 PM Looks like the right category to me. By the way, are you back from Florida? If so, welcome back. |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: kendall Date: 01 Apr 03 - 07:45 PM I am indeed. Two months of being cooped up in a motor home with a wet dog is a bit much. |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: SINSULL Date: 01 Apr 03 - 08:22 PM I would like to hear Seamus' side of the story. He may have had the worst of it. |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Hrothgar Date: 02 Apr 03 - 04:10 AM Brisbane concert is 26th April. What more do I need to know? |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: katlaughing Date: 02 Apr 03 - 05:16 AM Welcome back, Kendall. I've missed you! Give Seamus a good pat on the head from me, too, please, wet or not.:-) luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 02 Apr 03 - 07:10 AM I'm looking forward to his concrt in Sydney at 3rd May - I've been listening to borrowed CDs & hope to buy some of my own. sandra |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: lamarca Date: 02 Apr 03 - 09:49 AM I hope he's going to get to connect with Dave de Hugard somewhere along the way - we gave Gordon a tape of Dave's old LPs, because he was familiar with and loved Dave's music. I heard vague rumours that Dave has a new CD - any way for us folks in the USA to get a copy? |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Apr 03 - 12:37 AM G'day Lamarca, Gordon should cross paths with Dave at the (Australian) National Folk Festival, in Canberra over this coming Easter. I'll certainly see both ... and I'm notoriously mobile, as I'm shooting an official ptohtographic coverage. I can certainly make sure they meet up - but I reckon Dave will manage that quite well himself! I reviewed Dave's great new CD Songs of the Wallaby Trackin the February issue of Mulga Wire. As far as I can glean from Dave, he has no distribution arrangements - and he sells the CDs privately here in Australia. The address I gave in the review was: Dave de Hugard C/- Maldon PO Victoria 3463 Australia And the price he gave me was Aust$25 + Aust$2 p/p. I guess that the p/p gets to be a lot more for overseas / airmail. If you are interested, I will send the text of my review to your email ... but I'll need it PMed to me again, as I lost all my old email addresses when I changed computers / browsers / email servers last time. (or, I could PM the basic text ... ?) Regards, Bob Bolton |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Mark Cohen Date: 03 Apr 03 - 12:58 AM Well, there's always the chance that he'll stop off in Hawaii to refuel...but I hope to see him in Massachusetts this summer when I take my daughter back East. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Apr 03 - 01:02 AM G'day again lamarca, I talked myself into digging out the review text and PMing to you. As I got to the end, I noticed my last sentences: This is one CD I have happily sent off to friends overseas, with no reservations. You'll have to buy it direct from Dave … but it's well worth the chasing. Well, I did, in fact, send it off to friends overseas: Art Thieme and Burl ... and they did tell me that they greatly enjoyed it! (And I seem to remember that the airmail postage was about Aust$7.50 each CD ... but I don't go in for very heavy packing.) I'll press Dave to see if he has any overseas distribution now ... I seem to remember seeing that the CD can be bought through the new Australian folk Magazine Trad&Now (www.tradandnow.com/) ... and, possibly from the Wongawilli Dancers/Bush Band site (www.wongawillicolonialdance.org.au/) - and I'm sure they could handle the overseas ordering / postage & packing details. Regards, Bob Bolton |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Hrothgar Date: 03 Apr 03 - 04:03 AM Not arriving in Australia until 24 April, Bob. He won't be at the National, which is a shame. |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Apr 03 - 04:06 AM G'day yet again, lamarca: I just checked both sites that I mentioned above - and couldn't see Dave de Hugard's CD listed ... but I note that Dave does quote his email on the CD cover: Dave@deHugard.zzn.com - so you can try that to order direct. Regards, Bob Bolton |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Apr 03 - 07:47 AM G'day Hrothgar, We seem to have crossed in the ether ... arriving 24 April - not at the National ... Damn! Ah well, I'll just have to schlepp along to wherever he is. BTW: I had meant to ask Gordon Bok about the tune he sings to Bill Scott's Old Man's Song. I have the words - as a poem, in Following the Gold, Omnibus/Puffin, 1989 - but I don't really think of Bill as a tunewriter. (Hey! I could be wrong!) Does the new Bill Scott Songbook - copies of which have not seeped down to Sydney - suggest this has a tune by Bill? (Trickett, Bok & Muir credit him with Words & Music) I presume I will pick up a copy of the book the National ... a great place to update on all the stuff that doesn't flow freely enough over the state borders. Regards, Bob Bolton |
Subject: RE: Gordon Bok From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 03 Apr 03 - 07:52 AM Bob - Gordon Bok will be at Almost Acoustic 1st Sat in May - looks like you won't be able to go to the Beecroft dance that night? sandra |
