Mind you - when I read skarpi's initial message - it's the TUNE we're interested in. Have you a recording online or a midi...?

Regards

'16 Fishermen Raving' was written by Wally Page and Tony Boylan. Since Page is a lyricist my guess is that Boylan wrote the tune. It's certainly not a traditional one.

In other words, the tune is probably covered by copyright.

If you look up "16 fishermen raving" on youtube you can see Wally Page singing it, and also Christy Moore. Definitely not one of Moore's Melodies.

Here's a lively version from what was evidently a great night in Bialystok, Poland

Definitely nothing to do with Tom Moore - though it's fun to think what he'd have made of it. Probably loved it. Mind, I'd not be sure about Tony Boylan writing a particularly new tune for it - it has a familiar sound to it.

What that tune reminds me of most is Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne".

Now, Leonard Cohen doing Thomas Moore would be interesting...

"Leonard Cohen doing Thomas Moore would be interesting...
Indeed - there's actually a certain matching of moods at time, a sort of shared ability to appreciate melancholy:

Let Fate do her worst, there are relics of joy,
Bright dreams of the past, which she cannot destroy,
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and care,
And bring back the features that joy used to wear.

Combine Mudcat threads with immediate access to songs on Spotify, and one can discover some terrific music. This is one heck of a song.

There's a thread on the "16 Fishermen" here (click).

Thanks for bringing it up, Skarpi.
