Subject: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 15 Nov 12 - 03:53 PM OK, Spaw's been in and out of the Big House (as my doc calls it), and there have been several others, and now it's my turn! I' m one day home from a da Vinci hysterectomy , and under stict orders to lay around the shanty, mama, and get a good buzz on, and not much else! I need jokes (but not TOO funny- ouch!), chocolate, anecdotes, and entertainment before I go cray-zeee! Who will join me in the fun house? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: ChanteyLass Date: 15 Nov 12 - 09:20 PM AllisonA, I'm glad you are home. It sounds like the procedure went well and beats a traditional hysterectomy. I'd never heard of this one before. I guess Mudcat's not entertainment enough for you, at least while you recuperate.I hope others here can provide all the "medicine" you need. Heal quickly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: freda underhill Date: 15 Nov 12 - 10:40 PM Hi Allison and Chanteylass, it's cosy in here! Allison, I've never heard of the Da Vinci type of surgery, but it sounds so much better. I hope your recovery is a good one - here's some dark chocolate coated apricots - I get them from the shop around the corner, I hope they help. I'm glad that 'Spaw is so much better, except he keeps smashing me in Words With Friends (a Facebook scrabble-type game). So the only medical condition I have in here is PTSD - Post Traumatic Scrabble Disorder - it makes me a little wordy and linguistically tangled. wishing you a happy mudrecovery freda |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: katlaughing Date: 15 Nov 12 - 11:12 PM Spaw had heart surgery presided over the cardiologist who had the most number of hours, in the world(?), using the da Vinci. We have one here, now. I've had a hysterectomy, too. Thankfully, at the time, they were able to do it vaginally.:-) Now, Mz, 2Ls...you rest up and accept pampering...just like the doc said. Here's a joke I heard: the Past, the Present, and the Future walked into a bar..... it was tense!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: freda underhill Date: 15 Nov 12 - 11:23 PM I have a tense joke too.... A man walked into a psychiatrist's office. He said "Doctor, doctor, I don't know if I'm a wigwam or a teepee". The doctor said.... .."don't worry, you're just two tents" (too tense) :-D |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 16 Nov 12 - 08:45 AM *Gentle chuckle* thanks, friends! I'm feeling better today, but still woozy from painkillers, and bored and restless on top of that. And I've still got to lie low for some time to come. The danger for me is jumping back into my busy life when I think I feel better but really am not yet. Hmmm, Words With Friends... I've avoided FB game apps but this might be a good time to slip down that rabbit hole. My darling daughter trounced me in RL Scrabble last night, but still, it might be worth investigating! Isn't anyone else convalescing at the moment? I'm spoiling for a pillow fight! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: gnu Date: 16 Nov 12 - 02:17 PM Glad you are feeling better! I was sure I posted to this thread last night but I have that whatchmacallit thing so I musta not hit the submit. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: SINSULL Date: 16 Nov 12 - 06:28 PM I had the Full Monty version of hysterectomy followed by six weeks of convalescence. I thought I would lose my mind. No driving; no lifting; no stairs...my pain tolerance is high and I stopped the meds in the hospital. Hated the cottony headed stupiness of drugs. So take it easy Allison and sit down to endless game shows, talk shows and QVC crap. This too will end. Best, Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: SINSULL Date: 16 Nov 12 - 06:30 PM hmmmm I see no one has warned Ratched that you are here. I would keep the whining to a minimum along with the wining. She has a mean cold enema with your name on it if you don't. SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: gnu Date: 16 Nov 12 - 06:33 PM Stay away from yer enamas. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 17 Nov 12 - 07:15 AM Gah! No, not old Ratched! I'm being good, truly I am, eating my prunes and drinking my fluids the old-fashioned way, thankyouverymuch! No tv, Sins- can't stand the stuff. Yesterday I skimmed The Hobbit, and last night watched Rocky Horror Picture Show on my computer! Knitting and internet are my other pastimes. But this morning I woke up feeling like the tide has turned, and my caregivers are going to have to keep an eye on me lest I start jumping on the bed and running up and down the stairs! NO! Nurse Ratched won't be necessary! i'm sitting on the couch, feet up, good girl, yes I am!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 12 - 10:10 AM Be better Double L!!!! The daVinci is great and they are now in common usage which has changed the entire concept of surgery. I was fortunate to be here when the testing was underway because Robert Michner at Ohio State, (now at the Einstein Institute in New York) was doing all the testing for cardio surgery. I was the second heart valve ever done using th robot and the first was a repair. I was the first replacement. It was amazing to go home when I would normally still have been in the CCU. BTW, the operating team introduced me to the robot appropriately named "Lenny." Thinking of you! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: Elmore Date: 17 Nov 12 - 10:35 AM Animaterra: my sincere wishes for a complete recovery go out to you. In the meantime, if you are stuck in the house might I suggest you take a look at Concert Window on line? Circumstances have prevented me from concert going in recent years. In the past year or so I have derived much joy from watching some memorable folk concerts on my lap top, and feel less disconnected from the folk world. Again, hope you're feeling better., Elmore. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 17 Nov 12 - 11:14 AM Oh, my goodness, Elmore, I never knew about Concert Window before! What a wonderful find! Thank you!! Leave it to you, Spaw, to be a robotic innovator! My anesthesiologist assured me I would likely remember nothing at all about the OR, thanks to Versed and the other happy helpers he gave me. But I do remember, quite clearly, that they wheeled me into the room and introduced me to this giant, stainless steel fountain, and my last thoughts before sweet forgetfulness were, "But-- but that thing is HUGE!!!" Did the job, though! Spaw, I do hope you are healing and feeling better, too! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: SINSULL Date: 17 Nov 12 - 11:21 AM Allison - watching daytime TV makes the incision pain seem painless. LOL What's behind the curtain, Burt? Try to relax and heal. You really need to give your insides time to settle. Later, you will be glad you did. Best, Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 12 - 09:52 PM Lucky you Allison......Did I mention I cannot take Versed or any of the Benzos? I react badly with just the opposite reaction. I become agitated and tense, even combative. My BP spikes and then falls and spikes and falls, mt heart rate goes way up. This was what happened in 1999 when they had to induce the coma. Versed is now and has been the drug of choice and the substitutes may or may not provide what they (and I) need. Part of the problem a few yearss ago when I was had the bad appendectomy was the anesthetist insisted he knew more than Karen or Connie and used Versed. Two months later I have to learn to walk an talk all over again. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: katlaughing Date: 17 Nov 12 - 10:08 PM Staying down and letting all heal is imperative. one thing they did not tell me, is without a uterus, under years of stress, the vaginal cuff/wall can collapse and bulge into the resultant cavity. it's a type of prolapse and very uncomfortalble. pessaries don't work when the uterus is absent. as i looked through online forums/ae/i, i was astonished at the number of young women who had vcp. anyhow, be good!:-> luvyakat ; |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Recovery Ward Autumn 2012 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Nov 12 - 01:32 PM Versed is awful. It gives me the worst prolonged hangover, and it was a nurse in the ER who told me about it when I described previous reactions after surgery. When my kids have had surgery I've insisted it not be used, despite the protests and looks of disbelief from the general medical staff. When my son had his wisdom teeth out a few years ago the oral surgeon used more of something else instead, and said it would be fine as far as anesthesia - and he remarked that my son came out of the anesthesia much faster than other patients. Well, yes. That's one reason for not using the awful stuff. SRS |
