Subject: Lyr Req: John Prine's 'Silent Night' From: GaryD Date: 16 Dec 02 - 11:51 PM I heard a Christmas song on MN Public Radio the other day on the Prairie Home Companion...It was actually in walz time, melody vaguely similar to Tennessee Walz...after Garrison Kiellor & the Hopeful Gospel Quartet sang it, he said it was John Prine's song "Silent Night" Indeed, the last few bars of the song ended with the traditional Silent Night...the story started off with a description of window where someone was looking out at the shoppers... Any help with the words?..and/or melody...thanks gang.. GaryD |
Subject: ADD: Silent Night, All Day Long (Prine) From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Dec 02 - 12:11 AM Hi, Gary - nice to see you around again. The Prine Shrine is the best place for Prine lyrics. -Joe Offer- Silent Night, All Day Long ©John Prine/Bobby Whitlock There's a pine tree in a window in a house on a hill With a tree top angel sitting perfectly still She's watching the shoppers walk through the snow With their arms full of treasures and hearts all aglow Chorus: We held hands and stared at the lights on the tree As if Christmas was invented for you and for me When the angel on the treetop requested a song We sang Silent Night All Day Long There's a family that's gathered in some living room Dinner on the table that's been cooking since noon Stockings on the mantle are hanging with care While every body is saying a prayer repeat chorus There's a room out there somewhere with a woman in a chair With memories of childhood still lingering there. How pretty the paper, the lights and the snow. How precious those memories of long long ago. repeat chorus When the angel on the treetop requested a song. We sang Silent Night all day long |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Prine's 'Silent Night' From: GaryD Date: 19 Dec 02 - 07:37 AM Thanks for your help...I also sang it last night at a local jam..afraid I pretty well bluffed the melody, though!...anyway, got a good response from my friends...I've got to hear the melody more than twice to remember it..perhaps MPR will play it again. |
