Subject: Talk Dirty in Hawaiian - Lyrics? From: steveb@lagcc.cuny.edu Date: 01 Oct 98 - 02:27 PM I'm looking for the words to "Let's Talk dirty in Hawaiian." I believe Fred Koller (and/or John Prine?) wrote it. Arlo Guthrie may have covered it, don't know who else ... Anybody know the words? It would be a big hit when I visit there next month! Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Talk Dirty in Hawaiian From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Oct 98 - 02:36 PM Hi, Steve - well, you're right that it was written by John Prine and Fred Koller. Where you were led astray was in not first checking our Sacred Database, the repository of all lyrics folk. If you were to put the word "Hawaiian" (with two i's) in the search box in the upper right corner of this page, you would find two songs. This one (click here) is the one you requested, but there is yet another "Hawaiian" song to impress the natives with when you visit.... And if you searched under "hawaii*" that asterisk would help you find every word in the vast database that begins with hawaii (words like hawaii, hawaiian, hawaiianski, hawaiianovich, and many other exciting words). Hope you don't mind the teasing. We're glad to help, and we realize that some people may not know about the database the first time around. Oh, and if you want lots of Prine songs, check out the Prine Shrine (click here). Hope that helps. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian (John Prine) From: PHJim Date: 19 Jul 13 - 04:08 PM I was told that either John and Fred introduced the song by saying (tongue in cheek) that they wrote the song when World Music was becoming quite popular so they decided to cash in on the fad and write a song in another language. Since English was the only language they knew, they used onomatopoeia in order to write the Hawaiian phrases in the song. I guess they got a couple of actual Hawaiian words in there by luck. |
