I'd like to know how much is a pint of Guinness where you live. I've got the impression that the cost of it in my Country (Italy) is one of the highest in Europe, being 4.20 / 4.50 euros. Thank you. Roberto

My mother and I were in a cafe' near St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Mother decided she wanted a large Coke, that didn't seem like a bad idea to me, even without the ice. So, we ordered. The Turkish gentleman who ran the cafe' brought us two enormous glasses, with one ice cube apiece, and announced, "Two pints of Guiness".

Over here, 20 some odd ounces of the stuff sold for US import if bought at a pub claiming to be authentic and Irish or English.

16 ounces if bought in a sports bar and poured by a bar maid who pours Coors Light all day long and simply fills the plastic cup (Gasp!!) and hands it to you looking like a Root Beer float.

10 ounces if bought at The Local Parrish Irish Fest where Irish music is either Danny O'Donnell wannabees who are French or Italian or The Glengarry Bhoys who are Canadian Scottish rockers and the money goes mainly to buy new uniforms for the Little League Hockey Team.

8.5 ounces if bought in the grocery store where the bottle is probably older than the Christmas Fruitcakes.

The only thing consistant in all this is the price, $4.00 a glass.

Don

Last pint o'Guiness I bought in New Zealand was something like $4.50NZ which would work out at around €1.5. Mind you, it isn't 'proper' Guiness, it's brewed in NZ.

$4.50 per 16-oz. pint in New Orleans. In practice, that's five bucks (or more) with tip.

One newly-opened, off-the-beaten-track Irish Pub offers the option of an Imperial pint in addition to the US pint. Their prices may be a bit lower than at the more established downtown venues; I don't recall exactly.

Under two pounds in Wetherspoons, which is about same as M.Ted paid in McGlincheys in Philly. Unless of course that was for the miniature US pint, which would make it significantly dearer (pints here are 20 fluid ounces, not 16).

I paid $5 per 16-oz pint last night at O'Flaherty's in the French Quarter. I think it was $4.50 last time I was there.

However: Thanks to Guinness's "St. Patrick's Season" promotion, we got some free glassware to compensate. With each pint bought this week, the buyer gets to keep his specially-printed commemorative pint glass. I suppose that's worth the extra half-dollar.

No, wait a minute ~ you don't get a glass with every pint. The wife and I had a couple of pints each but got one glass apiece. I suppose it's one to a customer, per night (or per visit).

its okay.personally I favour a high price. It has to be said that after twelve pints or so your throat gets very sticky and it loses ita ability to cure thirst, and then your shit turns black. there other unpleasant side effects, like drunkeness.

a higher price would dissuade you from further excesses - perhaps.

I saw Ian Paisley on the telly once saying Guinness is bad for you. Maybe his black attire is to remind him constantly of that twelve pint moment when the pooh hits the pan.

Ah! My favourite tipple.
12 pints of the stuff is a tremendous aphrodisiac, however, it carries with it an ingenious built - in contraceptive!

I really don't mind the price as it's the only thing I drink, but if you want quality, try Wellingtons Bar in Ayr for the best pint outside St. James's Brewery.
And well priced at £2.20 as well.
(did I mention the Sunday night acoustic session?)

in Vancouver it varies depending on the pub.
the musicians get a break at our sessions at the Wolf & Hound
its $3 (canadian) or so. Otherwise your looking at around $5.50 + tip
usually $6.50 per pint.

I guess in the UK and Ireland you dont tip, but then you have to get it yourself too.

And, IMHO, the best Guinness you will get is in the Emerald Isle.

I first tried it in South West Ireland but don't like the stuff that passes for Guinness in the UK, even from a pub where the beer was good enough to warrant a cask marque.

Who gives a damn?

Over-priced, served far too cold (otherwise it tastes like gnat's piss), over-rated and served from sealed metal dustbins.

Despite what people say it is the same all over the world, the only possible diffrence is the speed at which the landlord gets rid of a barrel.

I think its an extremely beautiful drink. I served a lengthy apprenticeship drinking Theakstons Old Peculiar. However one hot dinner time driving to a gig in Nottingham, it suddenly dawned upon me - Guinness is more intense. And the cold herby taste was everything I anticipated.

I don't think its a great drink to drink by the bucketful. But after setting up the PA and doing a fiddly soundcheck - it has magic powers to relax the artist and sooth troubled nerves.

Unfortunately my devotion to the bottle was unmeasured and unwise. However to those who can still enjoy Guinness, and keep within the expansive bourne of civilised behaviour - my compliments!
