Norman Kennedy lives in Vermont, still weaving, still singing. Recently made a new CD from material recorded live in a concert in the UK. Dick Greenhaus, Mudcatter and master of Camsco Music, can get it for you. Norman's first recording, released as an LP by Folk-Legacy back in the 1960s, is now available as a CD. Check our web site.
The song referred to in the inquiry above is "MacPherson's Rant" --
"He took the fiddle intae baith o' his hands an' he brak' it o'er a stane. There's nae a hand shall play on ye, when I am deid an' gane.
The reprieve was comin' o're the Brig o' Banff, tae set Mac Pherson free, but they set the clock a quarter afore, and hanged him tae the tree."
Jeannie Robertson told me they were hanging him for sheep stealing, but they were mostly out to get him because he was "a traveller." She said, "He was a McFee, y'ken!"

Mary O'Hara

I attended her farewell concert in Galway so many years ago. She entered the Benedictine Order of nuns and after a few years found it was not her vocation. She later married a former priest and they live very happily doing educational work in former Rhodesia, Africa. Mary's sister is a well known actress in Dublin and plays a leading TV role in FAIR CITY (the Irsh equivalent of Coronation Street.

I wish success to all other queries.

Browning Bryant is still recording in the 21st century, though mostly for private distribution. He lives in Pickens Co., S.C. His last major label release was the album "Browning Bryant," in 1974, produced by the famed Allen Toussaint. It is an excellent album.

I know she is not unknown but here in the uk we never hear of Buffy Saint marie and I thought she was fabulous.
I have been told that she quit performing due to racist presssure and has become an artist and activist for native american rights.
Does she still record?
My mate Dick Appleton reckons she was a very good guitar player!
This is high praise indeed coming from him.

Does anyone know what happened to members of the duo Martin Carter and Graham Jones?

Graham played a fretless bass.

They did the folk clubs in the late 70s. This included Orpington when it was at a pub in Green Street Green. There were about 8 people in the audience and when they got up to play there were 6.
Then a guy in a brown anorak got up and left leaving 5! Martin dedicated a song to the 'man in the brown anorak'.

I guess with gigs like that, they gave up???

hildebrand here: i would like to catch up with Fred Weisz, a superb fiddler, veteran of the Even Dozen Jug Band and former student of Vassar Clements, that i used to jam with in boulder, 1968-69 -- we even tried forming a band for a while. i know he was with Goose Creek Symphony for a time, and has also played with the Greenbriar Boys, David Grisman, and others which i found on google. none of these contacts led to any current leads. can anybody help me get in touch with him? all the best, hildebrand

In the late 1960s & early 1970s, I remember Ruthie Gordon as a 19 year old with long brown hair. She played an acoustic guitar & sang at the opening of several Feminist Women's Health Clinics in the L.A. area. I was impressed because she knew even obscure songs from the Little Red Songbook of the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies).

re.: Don Crawford

I knew Don when we were both undergrads at Berkeley and he was singing at The Jabberwock. Been trying to locate him for the last 20 years or so. Did you get any replies to your WHERE ARE THEY NOW? inquiry?

I am currently hosting a show on CHRW in London Ontario. I played a track by Moe Ewart called Blues is Like Shoes. Beyond the one thread on this page and some other random facts on Google I can't ascertain much about him including where he came from and where he is now. If anyone could help me please do so.

Ken

I was on another site about Don and a woman said she was married to him for 12 yrs thru 93 and that he died in the early 2000's.
I ,too, have been thinking of him a couple of times over the last few yrs and am disappointed that he's not here with us anymore. I got a little bit acquainted with him in Montana in late 72.
was also a Richie havens fan whom I also spoke with more than once and so sad to have him go......both huge losses!
I assume you're talking about Don Crawford here. -Joe Offer, Mudcat Music Editor-
