Subject: RE: Where Are they Now? PermaThread From: Sandy Paton Date: 25 Feb 04 - 12:13 AM Norman Kennedy lives in Vermont, still weaving, still singing. Recently made a new CD from material recorded live in a concert in the UK. Dick Greenhaus, Mudcatter and master of Camsco Music, can get it for you. Norman's first recording, released as an LP by Folk-Legacy back in the 1960s, is now available as a CD. Check our web site. The song referred to in the inquiry above is "MacPherson's Rant" -- "He took the fiddle intae baith o' his hands an' he brak' it o'er a stane. There's nae a hand shall play on ye, when I am deid an' gane. The reprieve was comin' o're the Brig o' Banff, tae set Mac Pherson free, but they set the clock a quarter afore, and hanged him tae the tree." Jeannie Robertson told me they were hanging him for sheep stealing, but they were mostly out to get him because he was "a traveller." She said, "He was a McFee, y'ken!" Sandy |

PermaThread From: Tim theTwangler Date: 20 Aug 06 - 01:01 AM I know she is not unknown but here in the uk we never hear of Buffy Saint marie and I thought she was fabulous. I have been told that she quit performing due to racist presssure and has become an artist and activist for native american rights. Does she still record? My mate Dick Appleton reckons she was a very good guitar player! This is high praise indeed coming from him. |
Subject: RE: Where Are they Now? PermaThread From: Dartford Warbler Date: 03 Sep 06 - 08:26 PM Does anyone know what happened to members of the duo Martin Carter and Graham Jones? Graham played a fretless bass. They did the folk clubs in the late 70s. This included Orpington when it was at a pub in Green Street Green. There were about 8 people in the audience and when they got up to play there were 6. Then a guy in a brown anorak got up and left leaving 5! Martin dedicated a song to the 'man in the brown anorak'. I guess with gigs like that, they gave up??? |

Subject: RE: Where Are they Now? PermaThread From: GUEST,Zal Moxis Date: 26 Feb 10 - 01:03 AM In the late 1960s & early 1970s, I remember Ruthie Gordon as a 19 year old with long brown hair. She played an acoustic guitar & sang at the opening of several Feminist Women's Health Clinics in the L.A. area. I was impressed because she knew even obscure songs from the Little Red Songbook of the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies). |

PermaThread From: GUEST Date: 17 Apr 18 - 05:25 PM I was on another site about Don and a woman said she was married to him for 12 yrs thru 93 and that he died in the early 2000's. I got a little bit acquainted with him in Montana in late 72. was also a Richie havens fan whom I also spoke with more than once and so sad to have him go......both huge losses!
