Subject: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Jun 04 - 02:06 PM A couple of blurbs about the next book: Rowling Unveils Title For Sixth Potter Book By: W. Andrew Powell on Jun 30, 04 @ 11:48 am We may still be a number of months away from seeing the book, but author J.K. Rowling has released the name for the sixth book in the Harry Potter franchise, opting for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, while still withholding any other information about what the book will be about. The follow-up to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has no official release date yet and Rowling is still writing the book, but estimates that the book could be ready for some time in 2005 are probably pretty close to the truth. Although the books were originally written for children, the series has matured greatly over the years, as you can tell from seeing the recent film adaptation, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. According to previous interviews and articles with the writer, the Potter series will end with the seventh book. So far a number have guesses have emerged as to how the series will end, but in an interview the BBC conducted with Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays Harry in the movies, the star allegedly offered up a fairly plausible theory. "I'm going to be really unpopular for saying this," Radcliffe said, "but I've always had the suspicion that Harry might die." From Reuters: LONDON (Reuters) - JK Rowling has silenced the rumour-mongers by confirming the new book in her series will be called "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". The author of the multi-million selling books revealed the title behind a magic door on her official website, JKRowling.com but gave no indication of when the book would come out. Rowling laughed at suggestions the new book was to be called "Harry Potter and The Pillar of Storge." "I am trying very hard not to feel offended that anyone thought this was possible," she said on the site. "Storge, for crying out loud. Come on, people, get a grip." She was equally put out by the suggestion of "The Toenail of Icklibogg": "Well, if you believed the 'Storge' one..." The five Harry Potter books have sold more than 250 million books worldwide, and the latest instalment - "The Order of the Phoenix" - sold 1.78 million copies on its first day in Britain. The success of the books has brought a major windfall for publisher Bloomsbury. "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", the third Harry Potter film, which opened in the US in early June, made $92.7 million (51 million pounds) in just three days. "The Goblet of Fire" has commenced filming and is expected to be released in November 2005. With such phenomenal interest in what happens to her fictional boy wizard, Rowling also teased fans on her website by saying more clues about book six would be gradually revealed. The only hint she would offer was that the Half Blood Prince is neither Harry nor the evil Lord Voldemort. "And that's all I'm saying on THAT subject until the book's published." |
Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Nerd Date: 30 Jun 04 - 02:41 PM I remember when she announced that Book IV was to be called Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament. Then someone decided "Doomspell" was too scary (or something) and it was changed to the "Tri-Wizard Tournament," at which time the book's title became "Goblet of Fire." My point: wait for the book. Until it comes out, anything can change. |
Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Rapparee Date: 30 Jun 04 - 04:48 PM The Prince will be (drum roll!)....Hermione Granger! Yes! There will be a Terrible Accident in Transfiguration class and Ron Weasley will point his wand at Hermione and shout "Transgender Spontane-osa!" Suddenly, the Half-Blood Princess will be the Half-Blood Prince, and Ron will spend the rest of his life unsure of his sexual orientation. |
Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Jun 04 - 04:49 PM She announced it on her site, so there is at least some credibility to the title as it exists now. I remember watching the Today Show when Katie Couric wormed out of her the title of the fifth book, and that one stuck. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 30 Jun 04 - 06:07 PM Found this on the online Telegraph Title of sixth Harry Potter book revealed (Filed: 30/06/2004) The title of the latest instalment of the hugely popular Harry Potter series has been unveiled. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, will be the sixth in the multi-million-selling tales of the schoolboy wizard. A scene from the latest film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Author JK Rowling revealed the title on her official website just as hoaxers tried to fool fans into believing the new book would be called Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storge. Miss Rowling said that she had been using the title "for ages and ages". And she also gave fans a teasing hint: "The Half Blood Prince is neither Harry nor Voldemort. And that's all I'm saying on that subject until the book's published." Lucy Holden of Rowling's publishers Bloomsbury said "We don't want to spoil the title but it has been hinted at on JK Rowling's website and we can now confirm the title will be Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." Whatever the name of the book, it is set to induce near-hysteria among the huge ranks of Potter fans. The fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix sold 1.77 million copies on its first day last year. It sold almost five times as much as the first day sales for the fourth in the saga, Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire, which was itself the fastest-selling book in history on its first weekend of publication in July 2000. |

Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: darkriver Date: 30 Jun 04 - 09:08 PM Interesting to speculate. By book six, we certainly should not be getting new major characters. One would think that the last 2 books will have to develop and resolve all the themes and characters presented so far. I'm trying to fit this new title into what we know of the latest line of plot developments--open warfare against the ministry of magic, the magical world presumably in chaos, Voldemort out in the open and in full power. However, I'm not going to go so far as to dive into those fan sites.... Mudcat's more than enough Sturm und Drang for me. doug |

Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: HuwG Date: 01 Jul 04 - 01:36 PM Seamus Finnegan ? **** I actually went to see "HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban" for the first time last night. (I was waiting for a certain young lady to accompany me. I didn't realise that it took almost four weeks for them to put their make-up on, these days). I thought that the film was a brilliant adaptation, and stuck very well to the book, with practically none of the directors' cliches which rather spoilt "LOTR, the Return of the King", for me. The young actors and actresses (with the unfortunate exception of Tom Phelps, who played Draco Malfoy), did a very good job. And of course, the CGI teams did a marvellous job with the Dementors. I know that Alfonso Cuarón is not directing the next film ("HP and the Goblet of Fire"), but I hope they let him do the subsequent ones. |

Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Dave Bryant Date: 02 Jul 04 - 10:51 AM The story is all to do with Wizard photography - you know those snaps in which the characters move about. In order for the proccess to work, the developing solution has to contain 50% frogs blood. When Ms Rowling was asked for the title, what she actually said was: "Harry Potter and the half blood prints". |

Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: GUEST,lurker Date: 02 Jul 04 - 03:37 PM She's just repeating what the house elf said in Chamber . Something about, "The Chamber has nothing to do with He Who Must Not Be Named, because before he changed his name, the Dark Lord could be freely named"...Or something like that. JK said that it has nothing to do with Voldemort, but that doesn't mean it's not Tom Riddle. Maybe Harry goes back in time (again). |
Subject: RE: BS: Harry Potter VI--HP & 1/2 Blood Prince From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jul 04 - 06:46 PM Tom Mavolo Riddle = I am Lord Voldemort. Says so right there in print in the second book, the "Chamber of Secrets" or "Tunnel of Love" or whatever that one is called that has the basilisk in it. Or something like the above. The name also anagrams as "I AM LOVED LORD TOM", which Voldy probably wouldn't care for very much. |
