As well as having all day this year, (it's on a Saturday) our tour also forms part of the Bothy Folk Club 40th birthday celebration week. Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: St Georges Day What are you doing? From: JohnB Date: 21 Mar 05 - 10:43 AM My Morris side "Orange Peel" and my group "Triangl" will both be part of the St Georges Day celebrations at the "Golden Kiwi" in "Cambridge" that's the Other Cambridge, the one in Ontario Canada. On the subject of St G, anyone know any specific relevant songs mentioning him? I can only think of one verse in Hal and Tow, the slow bit in Padstow May song and the bit about Dance to the new St George forget the name of the song. Searches in Mudcat only seem to bring up place names. We will no doubt have a good time, I will then go home and watch a video I took last year of Dave the Gnome and Spot the Dog with the Abram Mummers, they put on a good show, sound effects and all. Subject: RE: St Georges Day What are you doing? From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 21 Mar 05 - 04:18 PM Guest, wandering around Coventry - you have my sympathy (especially if you are who I think you are...)! I have not held the place in quite such high regard after working there for a year. On the other hand, Tamworth Borough Council has organised a Day of Dance, at which both Packington Morris and Pennyroyal Garland will be present. I believe there will also be pub sessions during the day. Oh dear - I might have to go and drink and play again! To round the day off, there is a Ceilidh at the Assembly Rooms, featuring Brassneck , with entertainment by the excellent Rhyzome . It should be a good day! epn |

Subject: RE: St Georges Day What are you doing? From: mack/misophist Date: 21 Mar 05 - 07:20 PM As an American of Irish and Polish descent, I had planned to celebrate by slaying a dragon. Thus, I aquired a license from the state Fish and Game Department. All was well until the EPA found out and filed suit against me. It seems the Bush government has placed all smog sources under federal protection. I shall be spending St George's Day in court. Wish me luck. |
Subject: RE: St Georges Day What are you doing? From: manitas_at_work Date: 22 Mar 05 - 08:35 AM Unqualified guest, how can anyone be racist for celebrating a Roman soldier, of Greek culture, born in what is now Turkey, famous for rescuing an Egyptian and patron of seemingly half the countries in Europe? |

Subject: RE: St Georges Day What are you doing? From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 26 Mar 05 - 07:04 AM St George's Day has a special meaning for us Germans: On this day, in the year of the Lord MDXVI the Duke of Bavaria ordered beer to be brewed with malt, hops, and water only. It is called the Purity Law and still valid today - the first food law still in use. In the open air museum about Hessian culture near my home the biggest brewery in Hessen will show historical brewing to celebrate this day and handing out lots of stones for a reasonable price. I shall attend God permitting. As a former scoutmaster I shan't exaggerate drinking to hail the saint. As a librarian I shall read a good book in the evening to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday, may be the speech about the band of brothers. As for signing: I found a fine song in the DT: Furry Day Carol. I'd like to sing this song, but don't have the tune. Can anybody help me? |
