Subject: St. George's Day in Beverley From: GUEST,Richard Wastling Date: 20 Apr 07 - 06:46 AM To celebrate St. George's Day on Monday 23rd April, 'NOT The White Horse Folk Club', at the Foresters Arms, Beckside, Beverley will feature perfomances by the Green Ginger Morris and the Green Ginger Garland Dancers outside of the pub starting around 8.00pm and followed by a lusty singarouind inside, entrance being FREE, although a collection will be taken for the dance teams. Hope to see you all there. Is it just me, or isn't it about time we had this day as a national holiday? Discuss! Oh, and don't forget we've got the great American virtuoso old-timey fiddle, banjo, guitar player and singer, Bruce Molsky on the following Monday (30th) - a rare treat! Subject: RE: St. George's Day in Beverley From: Liz the Squeak Date: 23 Apr 07 - 05:47 AM We should be able to celebrate St Georges' day and there have been discussions here before about this, but just add up how many Bank holidays there are in April/May, especially when Easter is late. To put another statutory day off there would just be senseless. You'd have a better chance of getting a day off if we had St Michael as our patron - Sept 29th. LTS |
Subject: RE: St. George's Day in Beverley From: bubblyrat Date: 23 Apr 07 - 05:54 AM The most productive and worthwhile thing to do on St.Georges day is to join the Campaign for an English Parliament, and thus address the "Midlothian Question " once and for all, as George would have done, had it been necessary !! Cry God for Elizabeth, England, and Saint George !! |
