Dearest Limpet:

Well, I'm sorry to report that I have some bad news. Your gifts are ready to go, but when the ART (Auxillary Reindeer Team) was training for the Reindeer Games, Hagelstein (Donner's Great-grandson), was being all macho, and showing off, and he pulled a leg muscle. The veternarian told him that he must stay off it until at least Monday.

So your package may be a be a tiny bit late. We hope to get it to you by New Year's, though.

Again, my sincere appologies. Perhaps you could think of it as a Christmas Encore?

Yours, with fondest regards, L.E.

Your package has been wrapped by the Elves, and is at this very momnet heading your way. They promise me that it should make it to you by the end of next week. Enjoy.

Your parcel has made it's way to the Post Office in the company of elves who claim they know the way having been before. They have promised to make sure it gets safely on the plane and then to your abode in time for the 21st. It should reach you in about a week :-))

Have a good Yule xxxx

Pictured above: The long Arctic winter has begun, and it is indeed a "long winter's night" at Santa's workshop at the North Pole, where he and his elves labor ever more frantically to stay on schedule for package delivery. Work was halted temporarily due to a massive power failure, when even the backup generators faltered; the disastrous moment is captured in this snapshot, intended by the photographer to be a close-up of Jaze's present. Eventually, it was discovered that the disruption was caused by hungry polar bears that had chewed through the insulation of above-ice cables, leaving the wiring susceptible to moisture and resultant short-circuiting. (These bears can be seen far in the background of the previous photo.) Once the bears had been placated with huge mounds of Christmas cookies, repairs were made quickly, and Santa's workshop is up and running once again.

Hey, SS!

You mean there's MORE?!?

Last week or so (last week and this week were, uh, totally nutzoid) I received the WONDERFUL calendar of English traditional customs and dates -- and the bookmark with lovely seahorses (not exactly mythical hippocampuses, but they are very, very rare) -- in my colors, too! (Did you do the cross-stitch?)

I really apologise for not acknowledging this sooner (and maybe leading to worry as to whether the postal elves were doing their share), but I haven't had a lot of Mudcat time. I really have been good -- just not communicative.

Sorry about the delay in getting your package delivered. My IDIOT Delivery Elf had allowed the reindeer to sit on his goggles!! Result - smashed elf goggles, elf losing temper with reindeer and Santa getting angry with elf for being so stupid in the fist place. I have told the elf to buy his own replacement goggles and the package SHOULD be on it's way to you in the next couple of days.

Filled with lots and lots of banter
But I still can't work out where is home
When I think I've guessed, next time I groan
Cos I never get it right
Altho I try with all my might
I thought it was the USA
When this postcard came the other day
Now a another poem to test my brain
Japan? Croatia no I'm guessing Essex again!!!!

You have me totally perplexed my red and white friend!!!!!

Sarah,
Now, picture this; an ancient farm
It's timber framed, with quiet charm
The flow'ring elder shades the door
My safe retreat in days of yore
The waving flag in red and white
Rides the wind with gentle pride
And, ere I go - for you a riddle
My homeland is so very little
Though, granted, if you count it all
Then it's no longer all that small.

witty

north by north west?
capable of knitting plots and weaving words
dry sense of humour?
a wonderful rhymer and riddler.

hmm.

Hell, Secret Santa,

I went to the Post Office box today and your postcard was there. Thank you!

Oddly enough I have been drawn to various Buddha figures in shops in the last couple of weeks, and especially the ones just like the one in your postcard.

Tricky Santa, I'm not much good at guessing games but I wonder if your clues point to longitude & latitude, i.e where Greenwich meridian meets the equator? No that's in the middle of the ocean near Africa.

I give up!

Helen

Didn't mean to keep you guessing
Did send a postcard to give you a hint
I really hope I have your blessing
And your eye has a little bit of a glint
If I say to you, but just this once
Eight o's is what it's famous for
Now it's hard; so don't feel a dunce
Maybe I can offer you a little bit more?
Well .. it's south of north and east of west
Depending of course, where you are
There now, I've given it my very best
You have to work out the near or far
As you wait for your Secret Santa present
I just hope its a wonderful surprise
Only a day or two before THE DAY
Is when I've planned for it to arrive.

well, your package is on its way - 8120 miles, or 13068 km, or 7056 nautical miles (whatever you prefer) as the sandhill crane flies. Of course, neither Santa's jackalopes nor any more mundane method necessarily goes in a straight line. Amazingly, in an unusual fit of governmental efficiency (or lies), it seems that the faster methods of mailing a package that distance are also the least expensive. Please do not open until the Solstice Holiday of your choice...or before you get it, if you are the impatient sort.

Hello, Dear Limpet!

I know I haven't posted any new hints in a long time, but there have been some technical diffeculties here at Secret Santa Central that made posting rather diffecult. I hope, however, to get your package in the post to you before the week is out.

In the meantime, I thought you'd like to see what Spethan, the Typo Gremlin looks like. He's the one agreed to help me wrap your pressies, and get them in the mail. If you click here, you can see a picture of him.

As you can see, he has very long fingers, and an extra pinky on each hand. That extra pinky is his "pixie pinky" and it's a magic finger. He uses it to change letters in the words you type, and he can sometimes change things he touches, too.

He assures me, however, that he will be very careful when wrapping your pressies, and where magic-proof gloves. I sure hope they're heavy-duty, because I wouldn't want you to get the wrong pressie!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Yours, with fond regards,
L.E.

No, Micca, I didn't post way back when. I sent a PM to Liz to alert her to the situation. She assures me that this other person is not another "official" secret santa. So, it looks like you're a popular man and have two santas. Your pressie is due to arrive at your doorstep around the middle of December, if it hasn't already. It's from the USA.

Oh crap bother - your Santa won't let me send off the Moose head. I'd cleaned it up quite a lot, too. Now what am I supposed to do with it? No, don't bother to answer that.

Actually, you're right with your guess - your Santa does indeed play own a banjo - does that get you any closer?

I've been reading last year's threads (part of me job description, innit?) and I see you were jumping to conclusions about your Santa then, too.
