Tawmmie, don't let him have too many bowel movements until he wakes up. He has developed a reputation for being full of shit. As another of those known for this, I can tell you one must be awake and at full faculative (howzat for a word, Seamus??? Top that!!) capacity in order to maintain just the right amount of shit to keep one's reputation. He doesn't have the full of "piss and vinegar" worry, that is a young man's condition, so feel free to let him pee all he wants.

Have you tried blowing in his ear? That usually wakes up an acquaintance of mine.... he dozes off at his desk occasionally and a gentle puff in his ear will always get his attention.

Mind you...... it used to get the attention of an old boyfriend of mine, in a COMPLETELY different way so maybe that might not be a good idea.

Give him a hug and a slobbery kiss from Plaistow and tell him to get his ass over here again soon!

Just got back from (the) hospital. Mike is trying to wake up. When we say his name he will open his eyes. Still no finger squeezing. He lifts his arms, shrugs his shoulders, moves his legs. They have his ventilater set at only 700 (somethings) and most of his breaths are coming in at 1100 to 1500. That means he doesn't really need the machine anymore but they can't take the tube out till he really wakes up. He was off the kidney dialysis machine tonight. Kidneys AND bowles working great now. There doesn't appear to be any leakage and they will probably take the 4 drainage tubes out tomorrow. Another week in ICU then down to a regular room for a week or two. I met Mike some time back on one of his trips to Seattle. He was here weighing and/or measuring something, and he took some time out to get together and swap a few songs with some of us (including Bob [Deckman] Nelson and few others) at Bob and Judy's place in Everett as I recall, and then again at Barbara's and my apartment in Seattle. Great voice, great songs! He laid a couple of his CDs on me, bless him!

Tawmmie, tell him he's got to get well soon, because we need to swap some more songs at the nearest opportunity. You come, too!

This is good news & it sounds like it's gonna keep getting better. Tawmmie, you make sure you take good care of yourself too. It's often that it's easier on us bedridden "Drama Queens" than it is on those that keep us going, many who don't even realize that they've been drained until they fall down with exhaustion. You'll need the vacation after he's better. Tell him I called him a "Drama Queen" too. That'll get his blood count & white cells up there. Better wait till he's feeling a bit better though & you might as well tell 'em when he's awake. No sense wasting a good ribbing on him if it's not gonna get him percolating.

Where do you work? Perhaps there is a pool that people can donate sick leave to? We have one at the university where I work, and I was able to get a few hours from there when I had a lengthy absense after surgery a few years ago. Our sick leave works for the employee or when we have to care for an immediate family member (I took my sick leave most of this week to stay with my daughter who was in the hospital). It might be worth checking out.

Mike's nurse, John, tried to wake him up tonight. I rubbed his feet which he hates, anything to irritate him. Actually, John said to try anything till he wakes up then go to the soothe mode. Well, he didn't want to wake yet so he will try again later. Good news, his kidneys are putting out gallens of urine. Yea!!!!

Hi everyone, Thank you all soooo much for all your good thoughts. I just got back from the hospital, (or as some of you say - from hospital)
Mike had a good night. They're keeping him on dialysis cause it's just doing such a good job cleaning out his blood. They took him off the sedation medication yesterday morning and he doesn't want to wake up yet. Not to worry. John, his RN said they want to check his cognitive responses and then they they will put him back to sleep a few days longer. They need to make sure he can breathe completely on his own before they take him off the respirator. His skin is much better today, a bit more elasticity, not quite so turgid.
I've just about lost my voice but i just need to make sure I'm drinking my water.
My daughter Tina and her husband left to go home to Arizona last night. Tracy and Gayatri have to leave tonight back to Chicago. Mike's brother and sister leave Mon night back to Arizona and my son, Alex with wife and daughter have to leave Tuesday evening, Michigan.
I think I'll go back to work Wed.   I've used up a lot of leave that I was saving for our vacation. Oh well, I'll just have to use LWOP, I don't care. Mike WILL be with me end of Jan for the cruise, right, Seamus?
