- Hobgoblin dark ale, Black Wych Stout & Fiddler's Elbow wheat ale from Wychwood Breweries in Oxfordshire
- Warthog ale & Grasshöpper wheat ale from Big Rock Breweries out west
- Monty Python's Holy Grail (tempered over burning witches) from Black Sheep Breweries in Yorkshire
- Three Stooges lager (We ALL put the yeast in) from Panther Beverages, NY

The last one which was surprising good for the price; it was one of the "cheap" beer deals at the Brewer's Retail here in Ontario last year. Can't find it here any more unfortunately.

I love the Grasshopper. Used to be able to get it here but haven't seen it recently. I think it is from Alberta.... I'm not a beer drinker, but I liked Grasshopper.

I like the Grasshöpper a lot too. But then I like wheat ales. Yep, Big Rock is in Alberta. I first tasted it when my and brother-in-law brought me a case back from Calgary years ago. Now it is available here in Ont.

There seems something strange about being able to REMEMBER what youve drunk...*G*

Just joking really, as I'm not much of a drinker these days, & never really was much of one!

I'm fond of Hobgoblin, supped a few of those over Xmas.

Big fan of the Black Sheep Brewery (as I was of Theakstons before that) but have never tried the Monty Python Holy Grail...in fact never heard of it, though their Riggwelters I love...potent stuff, seemingly beyond its 5.9!

Talking of beer names, I sometimes wonder how some of the more rude or daft ones are supposed to help sell the ale. Yes, calling a beer 'Old Horse Piss' or 'Old Wanker's Delight' may get the punters' attention, but you won't get many ordering it at the bar :-)

I also wonder why so many new ales have to be called 'Old ...'. Convention, I suppose.

I disagree, Scrump. I think they would order them in the bar, and loudly, just to be noticed. Like Stan Rogers sang (in Half of a Heart) years ago:

...And it's drinks bought to catch the eye and make intentions known
The kind they would never buy if they meant to drink alone...

But then I bet most of these beers aren't sold in bars anyway.

I used to collect beer mats years ago. Believe it or not there is a name for this - 'tegestology' I think it's called. And the presidents of the Tegestology Society were none other than Morecambe & Wise. I threw all the beer mats out some years ago and now wish I hadn't!

Oh Be Joyful and Tanglefoot/Tangleleg are also old slang, usually for hard (and probably bootleg) liquor. At least as far back as the Civil War. Had not seen them appropriated for beer labels before, though.

Our Lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk,(I will be drunk)
at home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
and forgive us our spillages,
as we forgive those who spill on us.
Lead us not into incarceation,
but deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the Beer,
the Bitter and the Lager,
Forever and Ever.

The Rebellion Brewery in Marlow Bottom has some good beer names and tastes(we really enjoyed their Roasted Nuts at Christmas - try Google for their website), and so did the brewery that supplied beer for last year's Alcester in Arden festival (including For Fox's Sake).

Depends on the quality of the beer, Scrump. I have ordered (and enjoyed):

The Dog's Bollocks
Cat's Arse
Friggin' in the Riggin'
and
Friggin' Yuletide
