How do you stain a stain? Good point, McGrath.

Rupert Murdock is one of the 5 most dangerous men in the world and it would be nice to see him taken down... We don't need any more of his propaganda shoved down out throats...

I'm glad that people are at last realising how venal and nasty the NotW is. I was screwed by them, and that other organ of prurience the Sunday People, over 40 years ago.
They certainly opened my eyes to what shits so many journalists are. Ever since, I have refused to have anything to do with either paper, to the extent, that if you came to my door with one or the other filth mongering rag in your hand, you would not be asked inside, unless you got rid of the offensive item.
I hope they go bust!

It is despicable that the News of the World has cold heartedly used dead victims and their families in this way.

Least this level of bollocks doesn't happen in my part of journalism. No point hacking a games developer, because they will take you to the hangman.

"I suspect that Murdoch will come out of this without a stain."
How do you stain a stain?

When Dennis Potter, the TV playwright, was dying, he called the cancer that was killing him "Rupert" in recognition of Rupert Murdoch's contribution to modern society.

Just heard that the News of the World have announced that they think they have found out who authorised the phone hacking.
Looks like they've found a scapegoat. That was quick.
The person involved will probably be, either retired, emigrated, or dead. Whatever scenario, they will almost certainly no longer be in the employ of Murdoch.
That's my guess anyway.

The payment of cash for information by the newspapers is endemic. It goes on in many fields, not just the police, but also civil servants.
Because of the culture among journalists to never disclose their sources, it's not going to stop.

Say what you want about Maxwell. At least he jumped off his boat when he nicked the pensions money. When Cameron does it, he enlists the Daily Mail to say that letting him nick the money is the patriotic duty of every public employee.

Absolutely sickening. This won't bring the Murdoch empire crashing down, alas, but it bloody well ought to.

As for Rebekah Brooks, I'd propose bringing back hanging just for her, but people might think I was joking.

How the hell do these creeps live with themselves?

Channel 4 News (the only decent news programme left apart from Newsnight) interview a News Corps spokesman last night who confirmed the internal investigation into this scandal is to look at the time when Brooks was editor, and is being led by, er, Rebekah Brooks. Jon Snow had the spokesman on the ropes throughout, although the poor chap was rather witless and it was like shooting fish in a barrel. The look of fear on the guy's face said it all.

The only thing to surprise me is that the story has got out

The surprising thing is that the chicken media have paying any attention to it, and that the police have finally been forced into taking some notice of it - at the time it happened the News of the World openly bragged about having access to the online phone calls involved, and even talked about them with the police.

From today's Guardian: "The paper made little effort to conceal the hacking from its readers. On 14 April 2002 it published a story about a woman allegedly pretending to be Milly Dowler who had applied for a job with a recruitment agency: "It is thought the hoaxer even gave the agency Milly's real mobile number … the agency used the number to contact Milly when a job vacancy arose and left a message on her voicemail … it was on March 27, six days after Milly went missing, that the employment agency appears to have phoned her mobile."

The newspaper also made no effort to conceal its activity from Surrey police. After it had hacked the message from the recruitment agency on Milly's phone, the paper informed police about it.

It was Surrey detectives who established that the call was not intended for Milly Dowler. At the time, Surrey police suspected that phones belonging to detectives and to Milly's parents also were being targeted.

One of those who was involved in the original inquiry said: "We'd arrange landline calls. We didn't trust our mobiles."
"

The claim by the then editor of thew News of the World, Rupert Murdoch's favourite side-kick Rebekah Brookes, that she didn't know anything about it is both absurd and an obvious lie.

The only thing to surprise me is that the story has got out and that Murdoch's bully boy lawyers have not yet managed to suppress the story. In the past, thugs like Robert Maxwell, Jonathon Aitken, Jeffrey Archer and Cecil Parkinson have usually been able to intimidate proper journalists into silence. God how I miss Paul Foot sometimes!

One wonders was it the blackmail-shit that Murdoch's man Coulson had access to on Tory ministers which inspired Cameron to hire him, or the leverage-shit he had on Labour ones?

Either way, considering the shit he had all over him, it was pretty clear that it was a well iffy cynical appointment by Cameron..

I'm sad to say it doesn't surprise me that much! It is, after all, the bloody News Of The Screws!

It's concerning, as some have already pointed out, that both Blair and Cameron, who pretend to set such high standards, and who have such an influence over events, are so pally with Murdoch and his toerags.

Murdoch is a bigger threat to the UK than any hostile government.

Rebekah Wade/Brooks was a cheerleader for New Labour. While her party were stuffing the country and she was battering her then husband (allegedly!) her staff were showing what Labour ethics are like.... no surprise there. Lovely Labour stuff.

Cameron's and B.Liar's big buddy Rebekah Brooks (see here for the tip of the iceberg), chief butt-licker and Vader-like hench-woman of execrable Aussie ex-pat Rupert Murdoch has proven that when it comes to being an amoral, feckless and ruthless arsehole she's made of the same stuff as her boss and his offspring. I mean, deleting messages off her phone? That's beyond sick. US readers might want to read this first.

How Milly Dowler's family have suffered at the hands of the establishment (lawyers in court, now these tossers) beggars belief; sure proof if any were still needed that the division between 'us' and 'them' is getting deeper and wider.

Now apparently it seems they might have been up to their tricks with the families of the two girls murdered in Soham. Is anyone still reading this piece of shit paper?

Do the words 'compassion' or 'respect' mean anything anymore?
