These comments are all wonderful, but Maeve -- I will particularly share yours with her........we are so proud of her. Thank God she has a young man who works very hard and will supplement her miserable income......and she is happy!!!!

The best, most rewarding job I ever had in education was as an Ed Tech III, after years as a certified teacher. I was left alone to teach my student what she needed in the way she could learn. She made amazing progress physically, intellectually, and emotionally. I will always be grateful to have had that opportunity. It made every sacrifice and disheartening experience while teaching worth the pain.

May Penny have a similarly rewarding time.

many years ago a very wise lecturer I knew said " Usually you will find you haave a choice with jobs, between a job that will pay you a lot of money and bore the pants off you, as well as being horrible dealing with horrible nasty people most of the time, but it will however, pay you well so you can do the things you want to do in your time off. On the other hand is the kind of job that is satisfying in itself, in which you will have a sense of pride and fulfilment, and a feeling that you are contributing to the general good and helping others to do so too, The draw back is that it will NEVER pay you much money. given this choice I advise you to take the second, as you spend a lot more time at work than at leisure and option one can be very soul destroying, you might easily end up rich but very unhappy, and be an unpleasent money grabbing person that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." and you know, he was right!!!!

A quick update to an old thread. Penny interviewed for, and was offered, an Ed Tech III job. She was told she was overqualified but that they really wanted her -- she very sensibly took the job> Means she is committed to it this academic year but nothing to stop her applying for teaching positions next academic year.......and by then she will have two full years behind her in the S.Portland schools and it will be much harder to argue she is not experienced enough. The money is horrible, - I repeat - horrible -- but it has benefits, sick pay -- and it is working with kids which she loves to do......

I know she will use this as a springboard to a teaching position next year.......

There is something better out there for her. Always "this or something better for the highest good of all concerned." She's obviously got the right attitude, too. You've good reason to be proud.

As you say your daughter is in a better place than other "failed" applicants when applying for her next job as she knows exactly why she didn't get this one. Not that she can acquire years of experience immediately, but it's good to know this is the reason, not a sloppily written application, or problems with her interview.

So many folks only ever receive a form letter that tells them nothing, so they get very downcast & worse, have no idea how to better meet expectations.

Well - she didn't get the job. But she was one of 4 final candidates for just three positions and she was told told face to face that she did not get the job........; all three other candidatres had experience teaching fourth grade. She is taking it far better than I am -- very philosophical and ready to apply for the next position......I am sooooooo proud of her.

Thank you all -- her name is Penelope -- her father and I are the only ones who call her that -- to the rest of the world she is Penny. She said she thought the interview went well and she did her best ......she said she was feeling remarkably unstressed and truly believed she had done her best.....she can do no more. So we all wait for a week or so to see what happens........I will let you all know.

I'll add a prayer of my own to the situation, Trubrit. It's a Midwestern one, too. I pray that God will bless your daughter with this job, unless He has something even better in store for her. Whether someone believes in God or not, we can all look back on our lives and recognize the times when we prayed hard for something (or just really wished hard for it) and it seemed like our prayers weren't answered. Sometimes the answer is, "Oh, I can do better than that... just wait on me."

I am deeply appreciative that some of the things I prayed for never happened. They would have ended up being a disaster. :-)

And I'm with Susan. If this doesn't come through, try to help your daughter pick herself up, dust herself off and count on something even better coming along.

Susan -- fair point -- I love her and believe in her regardless but she is 25, on the edge of starting out her life and this is so darn important to her ......and frankly the kids she will teach will be better off with her at the helm than many others.....

Please, those of you who believe in anything or anyone or any creature out there.....please pray that my daughter is successful in her job interview tomorrow. She is a person born to teach but up here in Maine elemetary positions are few and far between. She is interviewing tomorrow (9 am EST -- PRAY ==good vibes etc) She is so good at this -- I would hand over any child in need of education to her and leave the rest to nature......PLEASE PLEASE PRAY -- I don't want to look at her face if she doesn't get this jon......PLEASE.....thanks.
