Not long after our son was born, we had a bat in our house. I took our infant into our bedroom and closed the door while my now ex trapped the bat in a large brandy snifter that had been filled with fruit and received as a gift. He slipped something flat under the inverted snifter and brought it into the bedroom to show me how beautiful it was and how fine its wings were. I told him to just get it out of the house! (Obviously the marriage was doomed!) We were already divorced when a duck came in through the wood stove, but that's another story.

Or, go outside and wave a radar gun around? Like attracts like? Bat Goddess used to post about them perching above her bed and, I think, hanging from the bedposts. Useful critters for keeping the bug population under control, esp. skeeters.

Naw Don not all critter as that easy
I been bit by spiders, scorpions, snakes, almost eaten by a bear .. but it goes with the territory when you are in the woods as much as me.

Once I was trekking through the jungle and a snake fell from the tree and landed on my neck. Little green guy called a bamboo pit viper. He was nice enough to not bite me as I would have taken ten steps before I died.

all in all I do agree that most animals are far nicer then most people

Perhaps my greatest talent is the empathy I have with animals. (people are a challenge in comparison)

I just pick up the bat carefully by day while they are in a sleep torpor and put them in a safe place outdoors.

The shared bond we have with animals is insticntive but requires a degree of empathetic common sense.

People who have a short list of animals they trust are the ones who will mistreat animals out of ignorance, not meaness.

PS ignorance is not an excuse but something you can overcome.

I have found myself in the midst of animals who would certainly have caused harm to other people who have a mind set different from my own. The only animals who have harmed me in my entire life has been people.

I do seem to have critter problems lately ... I guess I do need a new hobby instead of all the critters from woodchucks, raccoons and now bats. Thinking now maybe I need a opossum LOL

Leave the sumabich' bats the heck alone... I mean, most guys chase women when they have the mid-life thingie going on but you??? No, you have to invite Wild Kingdom into your house???

Me thinks you need some couch time with the Doc... Maybe he can get you thru this little unpleasant episode...

(((BTW, the bat, unlike you, works the night shift... They sleep during the day... If ya' had just gone back to bed (with the door closed) you would have found him or her the next morning hanging from a lampshade or somethin' and you could caught him or her quite easily and put him out...)))

good thing the missus is gone for a bit. She freaks with bats. Me nothing bothers me. I get a kick out of the things myself. Man they are fast. They can corner on a dime .. but they suck at finding an open door. I just had a new roof put on my house and I am sure he came in because of the guys tearing off my old roof (expensive too dang it)

always something. Now I am up ...

Oh boy .. wonder whats on TV .. probably infomercials about buns of steel.

Radar my arse, I chased a little brown bat around my living room for the last hour.   It is 4 in the morning here. Front door wide open to get him out and the stupid thing couldn't find it. Finally after a lot of towel waving he found the wide open front door. Now how exactly does he find a bug flying around if he can't find his way out of a wide open door.

Never tried fried bat but I was getting mad enough LOL

Now I am up .. can't go back to sleep ... Dang thing
