Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 05 Aug 21 - 02:53 AM Cough, wot, cough O2, cough, levels? & isn't Gaia cleaning that pollution by washing the troposphere? |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Donuel Date: 04 Aug 21 - 06:24 PM Mr. Red do you suppose with 4 continents losing forests to fire, O2 levels could be effected? |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Jack Campin Date: 03 Aug 21 - 05:58 AM Erdogan claims the fires in Turkey were set by Kurdish terrorists. His version of the Jewish Space Lasers panic. Responding to that a Turkish FB friend found a world fire map (from NASA?) that showed exactly what's going on at the moment. It looked like the Kurds and the Jews had to have set fire to about a third of Africa. And the media I've seen have TOTALLY ignored the African situation. It must be utterly catastrophic. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 02 Aug 21 - 02:08 PM Severe Weather ! ?? The streets of Saudi Arabia have turned into rivers ! Severe floods hits Bisha Saudi Arabia, of all places. Yea I know they get rain but severe floods? Speaking to a dancer yesterday he reckoned that the COVID bonus from reduced pollution was the cause. And having thought about it, I see a mechanism. Evaporation goes up as a gas, and will form ice crystals around nucleation sites - which particles of pollution, like PM2.5 eg, serve very effectively. So less pollution, longer up there and bigger deluges when it descends. Whoddathoughtit? |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 28 Jul 21 - 07:59 AM Bloody nature! And here's an interesting twist on the deluge In the 70s I spoke with a German tourist driving a car covered in dimples. Turned out he had bought it as a write-off, even though it was perfectly drivable. The hailstones would have been at least tennis ball diameter. Watching this video I suspect it cost him at least a front & back windscreen, even if the back was more vertical in those days. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Manitas_at_home Date: 27 Jul 21 - 05:16 PM I noticed the rain had washed a lot of old leaves from the trees. Guess where those leaves are going to go? If the street sweepers don't get round then there will be more blocked drains. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 27 Jul 21 - 03:37 PM Drains can't cope because the rain was unprecedented, but on top of that people throw rubbish in the street. And that washes away with the flow and ends up in drains. The "ME" generation. Yea yea, litter campaigns in the 50s, but the problem is worse, and the street cleaners are machines, it doesn't get into the corners that water will! Basically civic pride is not high on the agenda today. So what? They cry. Weeeeeeeell have a look at the way rubbish bags got thrown around by the deluge on this Lundun under water video @ 8:05. You won't see the Macdonalds trash - it is blocking the drains. FFS even the approach to Tower Bridge is awash! And Utah Make no mistake, Global Warming = Global Floods. It ain't rocket science, it is not even chemistry. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Manitas_at_home Date: 27 Jul 21 - 01:28 PM In the case of London it was due to the drains not being able to cope with a month's worth of rain in a couple of hours. The streets and drainage date from Victorian times. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: leeneia Date: 27 Jul 21 - 12:29 PM Where did this water come from? Thunderstorms, days-long rainstorms, snow melt, dams not adequate? I've seen coverage about the flooding and am struck by the lack of curiosity about the cause. Were people warned? Do Europeans know not to drive into moving water? Is the damage mostly in areas that never should have been built on? What's anybody doing to prevent this happening again? If the flooding can't be prevented, surely the death toll can be reduced. ================== Here's what I mean about a cause. In 1977, an immense thunderstorm stalled over Kansas City and dropped about 13-15 inches of rain. (1 or 2 inches would be normal.) Kansas City has a lot of steep hills and creeks, and the water flowed deeply and rapidly, flooding the creeks. About 10 people drowned and millions of dollars in damage was done. Has Europe been having storms like that? |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 26 Jul 21 - 01:23 PM Ooer, just happened on this. In 2033 ish, coastal flooding will be dramatically higher. Not because of global warming per se, yes the water is warmer, it expands, sea level rises. Ice melting, more water. Yea. But there is another effect I just saw a video on. It comes from the Lunar Standstill. The Moon's trajectory round the Earth is at an angle to the equator & the angle changes. The video - 18.6 Year Lunar Cycle May Dramatically Increase Floods On Earth Put your wellies by the back door, you won't know when it will strike. Just a warning to Cornwall & as far as Gloucestershire. One map he showed has the Bay of Biscay and the Severn Estuary as a higher tide area. The Severn has the reputation for higher tides already. Oh have a nice y'all. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 26 Jul 21 - 12:33 PM Don't watch this if you are squeamish. The Top Secret of Zhengzhou Severe Flood: The 24 hours of the Tunnel/Flooded within 5 minutes There was a video of stopped tube trains with people up to their shoulders in water, unable to leave. The correct phrase is Global Weirding. It covers the bases. and doesn't upset climate change deniers too much. Not that I care on that score. Donuel Eat my breeze - thankfully it will be diluted to homeopathy proportions by the time it reaches Cornwall, and all gone before Gloucestershire. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: keberoxu Date: 25 Jul 21 - 09:38 PM If only we could send the rainstorms west of the Rocky Mountains, where it is wild-fire season. Where I have been staying, miles east of the Hudson River, a local farmer told me, "April is the rainy month." Turns out, that is how it used to be, not how it is now. Now we are having a really rainy summer ourselves, although not in the disaster category described in the OP. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Steve Shaw Date: 25 Jul 21 - 07:37 PM We had a week of temperatures between 26 and 30 last week. That sounds modest, but there was no breeze and the humidity was in the 70s or 80s, and the nights were warm. Mrs Steve and I found it a bit tough to be honest. Three or four years ago we spent time in Granada and Cordoba when the temperature by day reached or exceeded 40C and the night-time low was at least 25C. But the daytime humidity was generally in single numbers. We found it hot but comfortable, as long as we sought shade in the middle part of the day. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Donuel Date: 25 Jul 21 - 06:35 PM We have reached Climate Crises status. Don't forget the fires. Mr. Red I should adapt those portable fans to fit my backside. Eat my breeze. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Jul 21 - 06:26 PM "Climate Change" is less confusing and offers less to argue about than simply using "warming" to describe the extremes in weather that is happening now. Every time we have a cold event (triggered by the changing climate, shifting jet stream, etc.) some right-wing wag will point out that this couldn't happen if the globe was really "warming." That's what we hear on this side of the pond, at any rate. |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Steve Shaw Date: 25 Jul 21 - 04:18 PM Incidentally, the Guardian refers to global heating, not global warming. Sounds far less cosy and far more threatening... |

Subject: RE: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Steve Shaw Date: 25 Jul 21 - 04:14 PM Well all these recent weather extremes taken together certainly seem to point in one direction...However, I lived in London and thereabouts for most of the 70s and 80s and I do recall apocalyptic rainfall every now and again, and then there were the summers of '76 and '83... We've had a lovely sunny day in Cornwall today with a pleasant 21.6C. Yesterday was also sunny after a damp early-hours, with 23C. No showers, no thunder, no big hail. It's usually the other way round twixt us and the south-east, so pardon me as I guffaw in a London direction... |

Subject: BS: flood, after flood, after flood From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jul 21 - 03:10 PM Lundun is having another serious flood, Camden & Primrose Hill, a week after the last one. Locals blame the drains & lack of cleaning. As if the rubbish the locals throw in the street isn't washed away to block in a deluge. Towns in Belgium are seriously suffering right now, while Germany is still counting the dead. Hunan province in China - they had cars stuck in a 4 mile tunnel because the tollgates were still taking the money slowing the exit as the water, within minutes, reach to less than the height of one car below the ceiling. They don't know how many deaths. I have been re-iterating the obvious for years. Hotter world, more evaporation, bigger deluges. We see records broken, flood after flood. We shouldn't call it "Global Warming" because it misleads people to enthuse about glorious summers and mild winters. Weeeeeeeeeeeeell - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. But there is all the water you can have with it. No I don't have a solution, but I have bought 2 of these necklaces** to cope with the excess heat we have experienced recently. I don't look cool, but feel it. ** UK Catters can also get them in Home Bargains. |
