Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Alexis Date: 10 Aug 08 - 01:11 PM I remember him playing with Keith Hancock (late 90s?) Really good - both of them. Last I heard Keith was doing something with windows. Wouldn't mind seeing them (either /or) again |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,Matt Date: 10 Aug 08 - 08:51 AM I'm his nephew! |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,Swidge Date: 07 Jul 08 - 07:45 AM I saw Lee perform in Buxton back in 2001 and 2002, and he was amazing. I have both Slip the Driver a Fiver and Breathless, and love to lose myself in his beautiful arrangements. Driving Wheel blows my mind, but The Beautiful Waitress is special, too. I wish he was out there performing still, but googling only got me this far! Come on Lee, your fans are waiting for either a CD or Lee in person! |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Geordie-Peorgie Date: 29 Jun 08 - 04:57 PM Hey-up! Aah've been in touch wi' Lee and telt him that his name's cropped up on here. Look out for mebbe a word from the man hisself G-P |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Dave Illingworth Date: 29 Jun 08 - 03:52 AM Lee Collinson ia a fine performer indeed. Looking back through this thread to 2002 (Pete Jennings), I am proud to say that Lee apparently learned DRIVING WHEEL from a cassette by Pigfoot (with me on vocal) - see also recent "Let's talk Tom Rush" thread. I haven't seen his name around for ages. Maybe, as Zen says above, he is more involved in the art world. Be nice to hear him again. In earlier days, he did a few excellent floor spots at the old Weybridge Folk Club (Hand and Spear). |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Zen Date: 28 Jun 08 - 01:37 PM Lee was a good friend of mine although I haven't seen him in a while as I moved countries. He was married with a child and doing a lot more on the art side (he's also an excellent artist) last time I heard of him but I don't have a current address or contact details. I taught him the tune Lord Mayo (with erroneous title Lord Mayor's March) as featured on Slip the Driver a Fiver and am credited for same on that album! Zen |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Tradsinger Date: 28 Jun 08 - 01:31 PM Can't help with the CD but I would like to know what Lee is doing these days. Huge talent and I am amazed that he wasn't big, big, big in the folk scene. BTW I have Limbo on Vinyl. Tradsinger |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,Twinkletoes Date: 28 Jun 08 - 12:47 PM Limbo is my fav album, it was Lees first, it was only available on cassette. I've lost my copy :o( Anyone know where i can get a replacement, better still a CD! |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,chouxfleur Date: 11 May 02 - 03:28 AM Thats easy, its because we're creatures of habit. Not only do we want to go to see/hear the artists we know and love, we want them to perform our favourite songs and tunes. Its the same at restaurants. I'd bet that most people going to a chinese or indian restaurant will choose their favourite dish time and again, not wanting to risk trying something different. And so (IMHO) its the same with music. Once people have discovered just how good someone like Lee Collinson (or me for that matter....ha!) are you could charge a tenner and fill the venue. Anyway Hille, dont get so despondent, cos I reckon with the success we had with Lee last year, some of that will carry over and bring more along to see him at The Dick . Chouxfleur |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 10 May 02 - 04:32 AM Thanks Eric! (wherabouts are you then?) But, why isn't Lee better known though? (I think I gained a clue on Saturday at the BD gig - people (the buying public that is) hear something in "their" era and then just stick with it (very small record collection syndrome) - I mean, I was moaning about the dreadful lack of contemporary music available in Worthing e.g., Abba/Queen tribute bands and the response "Oh, wow! I think I'll go and see that!" (At 15-16 quid a throw - yet the public at large are hard to sell a 4 quid gig to: perhaps I should double the entry price - price equals quality?

Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Eric the Viking Date: 09 May 02 - 01:57 PM Definately spreading the word-been playing it at school, one member of staff want's to go and see him, another has asked if he's touring Yorkshire-BriliantCD Richard. get a chance to see him-GO! |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 08 May 02 - 06:53 PM Hi Pete, yes, it is - but it's not a pretty sight :)! Mooman - you're a star! 'Spose I'd better get on and write Lee the "official" letter, so he just doesn't think it was a madwoman phoning him up! *g* (Bob Dylan had quite a few of those on Saturday, Chouxfleur, inside and outside: the one's inside were the Dylan widows sitting at the bar with the air of understandable bafflement) "Roll on Lee" (as I said in the middle of one particular number when the "Rwaar, sheeh, hmmmmph, rwaar" was getting to me (by about number 3 on the running order :( Cheers, Guys xxx |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: mooman Date: 08 May 02 - 08:15 AM Dear Hille, I have given the good Eric the Viking a copy of "Slip the Driver a Fiver" and fully expect him to be spreading word of Lee's virtuosity in God's Own County. Not that that helps you directly but the more exposure and publicity for this superb musician there is the better! Best regards mooman |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Pete Jennings Date: 08 May 02 - 06:44 AM Hille Six blokes with a guitar? Now, that must be worth seeing! *BG* Pete

Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,chouxfleur Date: 08 May 02 - 03:02 AM Hille Knowing just how much you enjoyed seeing BD the other night, Miles Wootton gave me a clipping out The Guardian of May 6th that I'll send you, but theres a great line in there that I think you will empathise with 'Dylan started talking gibberish in the early 60's, then gave up talking entirely'........ chouxfleur |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 07 May 02 - 07:53 PM Hi PeteJ, Good to hear there's more than 3 of us in the LC fan club! Don't know the original version, but think Lee's version is stunning: I've both Lee's current CD's - not sure, think he's got another one due out soon(?), although personally "Slip the Driver.." is the one I adore: more guitar (and that's from someone who's promised to shoot herself on a night when there's more than 6 blokes with a guitar doing floorspots - my finger's been twitching on more than one occasion in some clubs) Actually, speaking of blokes and guitars - saw Bob Dylan on Saturday (think I'll start a thread :) |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Pete Jennings Date: 07 May 02 - 10:00 AM Hille The above posters are all spot on - Lee Collinson is a great guitarist, singer and all-round performer. Play guitar like a "loose" Martin Simpson. He does a great version of a song called Driving Wheel by David Wiffen. I was so impressed I order the original album (available in the UK as a CD import). Paid £17 and waited 3 months, only to find that Lee's version is incomparably better than the original! Worked it out for myself and it's now a cornerstone of my repetoire. Hope you have a great night. Pete |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 07 May 02 - 08:08 AM Thanks, Chouxfleur (Have you lost yer cookie then, pal?) All you out there in the Sussex area please do come and have a great night out at Lee's gig. Only 4 quid!! Cheers, Hille xx |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: GUEST,chouxfleur Date: 07 May 02 - 02:48 AM Well done Hille, we had Lee Collinson at The Harbour Sessions club in Southwick last year. He was absolutely brilliant. Great songs, great presentation and funny, easy delivery and engagement with his /our audience. have seen him on two separarte occasions and he is consistently brilliant. Hope you have a packed house. We'll push it for you chouxfleur |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 30 Apr 02 - 09:00 PM The more the merrier!! If only to prove a point to the pub landlord who has stuffed us for a another gig we were trying to arrange as part of our Fringe festival here in Worthing in July. I.e., guitarist Richard Durrant, (youngest member of Sky and local hero) loses out to lots of German Beer that have crept forward a day and obliterated our monthly club that night. I feel a new venue coming on :) So, thanks a very much for your help - hopefully, the Publican will rue the day/after we move on.. Hille :) |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: mooman Date: 30 Apr 02 - 08:47 PM Dear Hille, Well I could contact the football club too I suppose! Have responded to you by PM All the best mooman xx |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 30 Apr 02 - 06:00 PM Hi Mooman, I was hoping for at least one response (might it have been yours?) to keep this refreshed :) I saw Lee a year ago I think it was and was knocked out by his skills. There's a lot of subjective hype surrounding so many performers that I tend to yawn and think "Yeah? Right?" but, as someone who's a non-musician and has basically started a club from scratch and had to really get out there and garner interest and research what's going on and who's doing it: from Terrible Floorspot Man to John Renbourn (who's local-ish) I must say Lee was head and shoulders above the rest of them - and I don't believe that is a personal taste issue!! Oh, pur-lease, if Dorking want to come en masse I would be delighted (and financially relieved - this IS Worthing after all!) Or do you mean Dorking Football Club :) ? I'll PM you my telephone number as a contact for you to pass onto them. Cheers, Hille x |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: mooman Date: 29 Apr 02 - 07:56 PM P.S. Lee's own site is down at the moment but here's an endorsement from Cheers mooman |
Subject: RE: Lee Collinson gig From: mooman Date: 29 Apr 02 - 07:48 PM Dear Hille, Go for it! Lee is a great guitarist and singer and you and the club won't regret booking him. I'll have a wee word with that scurvy Dorking FC home bunch of his and see if I can't encourage some of them to go down and support you. It's not that far! Even after 11 years away in another country they're still frightened of me!!! Get him to do Lord Mayo's March or tell him I'll kick his butt for him! Very best wishes, mooman |
Subject: Lee Collinson gig From: Nemesis Date: 29 Apr 02 - 06:07 PM I've thrown caution and club funds to the winds and made my first ever booking(!) of Lee Collinson for our club on Friday 7 June in Worthing Sussex. Fingers crossed that I'll manage to publicise it sufficiently! What the Dickens Open Stage Club at the Charles Dickens pub (real ales) Heene Road Worthing. £4.
