You have the knowledge and do things the text-book way, I just guess and do what feels good! I may not choose the correct method, but I know what I mean! See you Friday :0) |

Why didn't you look at me when the Lonnie Skiffler sang Mellow Yellow last night, were you praying, sleeping or what :-) Told you he was more like Donovan or Bob Dylan. Spooky that. Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 15 May 04 - 03:52 AM Up early this morning Strollin'. Jane will be singing next week at Market Rasen. I agree with you entirely that Jane has a very nice voice and that is why I asked her to play at Market Rasen. Can't agree with you about your inference to Lucy. It's not about belly buttons, it's about pure talent. She has a wonderful voice and is going far together with Paul. Her voice speaks for itself. Now lets talk about you then. You are a very talented, have a lovely voice and I like many others, could listen to you alnight. If I went on looks, you woudn't be playing at Market Rasen and I woudn't be running the club. :-) I still need photo's and profile from you in order to let people know who you are. If people don't know who you are, they are not going to get off their arses to listen to you. Need the same for Stitherum. My policy about youngsters is that unless you give them a break and encourage them into the folk clubs, then in 20 years time Folk Clubs won't exist, because all the artist's will be dead. I think it is called inclusion. Something Gainsborough is very good at(Lucy and Paul). They like Gainsborough becuase of its freindly atatitude and inclusion. Wouldn't it be nice if every good Folk Artist had to take a young group under their wings and help them along the yellow brick road. Both my daughters who are almost 9 and 13 have never been exposed to folk music until I started Market Rasen 2 months ago. They are now very enthusiastic and want to go to each event. At Moor and Coast, they went to the Ceiledh night and my 13 year old is now hooked on the dancing. My older daughter was very dissapointed last night, because I coudn't bring her along to Gainsborough Folk Club. Pub rules I believe. That doesn't help get them in at an early age. Woudn't it be nice if every parent that goes to Folk Clubs, is forced to bring their children, so they get to know what Folk Music is about at a young age. There you go, that's started the morning off well. :-) Gonna have me breakfast now. Grilled Rabbit Slice with eggs and tomatoes. :-) |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 15 May 04 - 03:02 AM A very nice night, enjoyed it immensely, and that enjoyment was heightened and enhanced by the presence and performances of Padgett and Clive - new faces to me but I hope we'll see them again (and again and again, as the song goes!). Also by Jane (she of the lovely voice) who proved beyond all doubt that you don't have to be 18 and flash your belly-button to be a rising star - some 'mature' 'uns have talent and beauty too! Sorry Villan, couldn't resist that one! :0) :0) Sorry for the bugger-up of 'Dark-Eyed Molly', but I astonished myself that, having consumed copious quantities of the Landlord's finest, I managed 'Annachie Gordon' without consulting the hymn-book! Ripper! Plus no skiffle, and weren't the squawkers in the other room quiet too! Market Rasen next Friday - Bring It On!! Johnny :0) |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 14 May 04 - 09:20 AM A man was driving along the highway, and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful, he began to cry. A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong. "I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it." The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 yards away the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved and hopped down the road, another 50 yards, turned, waved and hopped another 50 yards. The man was astonished. He couldn't figure out what substance could be in the woman's spray can!! He ran over to the woman and asked, "What is in your spray can? What did you spray on that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said: V V V V V V V V V V V v V V "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent wave." |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 14 May 04 - 08:44 AM Dead Rabbit One afternoon while doing some work in the garden I noticed my dog dragging something under the fence. Upon inspection, to my dismay, I realized it was the next door neighbors' daughter's rabbit. For years I had watch her come home from school and head straight out to its cage, free it and play with it in the garden. I knew today would be no different and fearing for our dog, I had to think fast. The rabbit was quite dirty, as if it had put up quite a struggle, so I washed it off with the hose, combed it with the Dog brush and blew it dry with the leaf blower. Upon finishing its grooming I jumped the fence and replaced back in its cage hoping its death would be written off as "natural causes". Within the hour the neighbor's car pulled in and out popped the little girl, and as usual she headed straight for the cage. Only this time she stopped about six feet away and screamed "DDDDDAAAADDDDDDDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Her father, panic stricken, stood looking at the cage. Being the good neighbour that I am I rushed to fence and asked if there was anything I could do. Her father less than calmly blurted, "What kind of sick individual would dig up a little girl's dead rabbit and put it back in it's cage?" |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 14 May 04 - 05:05 AM I can say this in all honesty. Gainsborough Folk Club is a very friendly environment with lots of good humoured patter, and above all Mr and Mrs Sooz have built up a club that would be the envy of most, with a bunch of local excellent singers. They encourage anybody to sing or spout verse etc, and if it hadn't been for them Lucy and Paul would probably not be where they are today. They also have a lot of very loyal listeners. I really enjoy going along and listening and keep on coming away, amazed at the quality of local Lincolnshire folkies. |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 10 May 04 - 11:11 AM Surely thats not skiffle that he plays. You need a washboard and a wooden box with strings in it for the base. He tries to be a Donavan or Bob Dylan and I don't class them as skiffle. Surely the best skiffle group was Lonnie Donegan and he is nothing like that. Maybe he should be made to do a 3 number floorspot at the beginning or be banned from playing for ever. |

People leave because we finish at 11.30 (as requested by the management) and the skiffle doesn't start until after that! Don't want to upset the staff! Maybe if the skiffler arrived at the start (like the rest of us)instead of halfway through the night...............he's not called The Midnight Cowboy for nothing? Johnny :0) |
