John, I'm certain you're a good guy. Nothing personal was intended. After the election, when a Democrat is president, I'll have 4 more years (hopefully 8) to dilute my resentment of the many who went after Bill so viciously for doing what I feel was really nothing at all.

This is what makes horse races (and political races also)---two diffent opinions.

All the best,

Art

I would like to humbly submit that I see unfortunate irony in the resurrection of this thread with the "Folk Nazi" thread so fresh in our minds. Just for the record, and I'm not asking for agreement, maybe just a little understanding, There were some (myself included) who wanted Clinton to resign because what he did was abhorrent and he used the power of his office to escape the embarrasment of a non-impeachable act--thereby creating a blueprint for future politicians to follow to escape real corruption. And even though I feel this way, I do not hate Hitler any less than anyone else, I would never act for the repeal of civil rights or social security--in fact I would act to have it removed from the general budget for its salvation. I also know of no one among people I know who felt any different. It hurts me deeply when people who share my love for music confer such hateful thoughts and titles upon me for my ideologies. I hope I would no sooner attribute the atrocities of Stalin on those of you who prefer a growing federal government. I know. It was JUST a song.

NOON

Just went back and looked at it. I still agree with my song. Right now, I'm amazed more has not been said during the campaign about how the Republicans Limbasted Bill during the impeachment diatribes. They SHOULD NOT be let off the hook. I truly believe and hope the American people will regain their indignation and their memories a fraction of a second before they vote. And then they will GORE the bush -- and rip it limb from limb.

THis is what I think. Clinton was set up by a hostile Republican congress whose sense of morality about perjury and obstruction of justice is laughable.

He made a stupid mistake but he is the best president that we have had since FDR. He didn't do anything different in his personal life than JFK or Lyndon Johnson.

If you want to talk about character issues than maybe each president can be put through the microscope of public scrutiny and you're bound to find germs. What about lying to congress? Telling phony stories. Spreading of disinformation? There's plenty of garbage to hand out for every political figure.

A song should be written about those who so easilly cast the first stone.

When it's president pickin' time in Georgia, I'll be at the voting booth I'll vote for the guy who can make it fly The one who I think has the truth

I hope the American people have some sense left 'Cause none of 'em can fool me. When it's pres pickin' time in Georgia It's Gore pickin' time for me.

Frank

You All please forgive me: I'm still figuring out this HTML stuff. Allow me to try posting the song again. (Hope this works).

(Sung to the "Beverly Hillbillies" Theme)

Well dere once was a story 'bout a man named Bill;
Da poor president couldn't keep his willie still;
Den one day he was workin' at his desk,
When in walks Monica and shows da boy her chest...

Boobs, that is. Two of 'em. Bodacious ta-ta's.

Well da next thing ya know, Monica is on her knees,
Mouth open wide and as happy as you please;
Bill sez, "oh yeah now-don't say a thing,"
"If you do a good job then we'll have a little fling."

Blow job, that is. Phallic osculation.

Well, Bill lost his load and it fell upon her dress,
He said, "Clean it up, 'cuz you really are a mess,
And you're invited here to dis fine locality,
To have a heapin' helpin' of little Willie C."

Da wiener, that is. Da presidential staff.

So week after week, Monica is on her knees
Keepin' Willie and his Wiener just as happy as you please,
But then she figured out dat the fling had gone too far,
And she blabbed it all to Linda Tripp who blabbed it all to Starr.

Bad girl, that is. Cigars. Bodacious ta-ta's.

Well it weren't too long till we all knew the score,
'bout da stuff dat went down behind da oval office door;
Da country's in da toilet and da people cry, "No More"
But if we oust da cheatin' jerk, den we gotta live with Gore.

Boob, that is. Great big one. Head stuck up his rear.

So now ya know da story 'bout Bill our president,
Wonderin' if dis fling's gonna cost him every cent;
So da moral of da story is to do it quietly,
And stay outta trouble with dat bitch named Hillary.

You Guys! All you can think about is the sex! So I guess if the big corporate vice president of (name you favorite company to hate) sexually harasses his office girl, in the office, it would be O.K., and nobody's business?? She wouldn't have any grounds for complaint if she felt intimidated? (Think Paula, not Monica) Or does your logic apply only to bill clinton? However, since you are fixated on the sex-with-monica angle, here is a song by an unknown author you might enjoy:

(Sung to the "Beverly Hillbillies" Theme) Well dere once was a story 'bout a man named Bill; Da poor president couldn't keep his willie still; Den one day he was workin' at his desk, When in walks Monica and shows da boy her chest... Boobs, that is. Two of 'em. Bodacious ta ta's. I know you guys will really enjoy this, since you like political humor songs. Feel free to send it to all your friends!

When I am typing a lond diatribe *grin* and I want to avoid silly spelling errors, I just hit 'alt-ctrl-F12' and it walks me through the document. (warning..it does not deal with such things as *this*..it sort of expects you to type without weird symbols directly attached to your words...so guys like me have to hit extra 'ignore this spelling' buttons.)

George Orwell may have got the year wrong, but everything else seems to be right on the money.

And we were thinking that 1984 was a book against communism!

ABOUT CONGRESS GETTIN' AT THE TRUTH---There should ALWAYS be flexibility and room for nuance and circumstance when applying the law. I know it's supposed to be absolute, but nothing, in actual practice, is ever absolute!--Was Winston Churchill telling a lie he could be later made accountable for when he allowed areas to be bombed without warning the poulation during World War 2, even though they'd decoded a message informing our side of the situation? He did that because to show he knew would let Hitler know we'd cracked his code. Hitler'd change the code, and we'd no longer have access to all the information we were receiving---even though that info shortened the war. Is Bill's "lie" equal to others told throughout history for "noble" purposes? Some lies seem to have extenuating and validating circumstances involved in their perpetration.

The Congress of these United States has elevated an article from the National Enquirer to the level and status of an article of the constitution! It's "Alice In Wonderland" all over again! As the Queen of Hearts shouted, "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!"

AMEN, MICK! For anyone who wants to read more on this, send me an email and I will send you any number of the following in txt to read. They have all been published in regional papers and in the Liberal Opinion Week, which is sold nationally by subscription; and, they were all written by m'self.

Starr's Expansion: Taxation without representation; More then we need to know; Starr must be stopped!; A Final Gasp of Exasperation; Grassroots Americans say, "Censor & Move on" What a country!; Congress underestimates resolve of the people; Assault on public consciousness: how low can they go?

My mother and father were my sounding boards. While I still have Dad to rant and rave with, Mom passed away a week and a half ago. Because of this loss, my heart just isn't into writing new ones, at the moment, so I am taking a sabbatical from writing my op/ed column, A Mind-Full Spoken©. I DO love to share an opinion, though, just like the rest of the world. This is a subject which I have followed very closely and have very definite opinions on. One of the last things Mom said was during her last night alive, my sister had on the tv in her hospital room, with the sound very low. Mom was lucid enough, for a moment, to look up and say, "Is that Clinton? What're they doing to the poor man, now?!" I hope when I am 82 I will still have enough wits to be as interested up to the end as she and my dad have been and are.

Opiniated, Liberal and Proud of it! katlaughing

HR, he lied when asked a question that he shouldn't have been asked to begin with. These people spent upwards of $60 million to ask a question that most anyone would deny. Is there any among us that could stand a 6 year, sixty million dollar investigation, to find the one question that any person would likely deny? It is ludicrous to the extreme. And before someone starts the holier than thou stuff about no one is above the law, let me point out that you canna have it both ways. One on hand our dear friends on the right say he has to be subject to the law like anyone else, and then when you point out that in civil cases like this no one is prosecuted for perjury when asked this question. Then they immediately say well he has to be held to a higher standard. Which is it, folks?

I am a liberal, and I am proud of that fact. I am a liberal on my own terms. And I find this man's behaviour to be shameful and stupid given the scrutiny he was under. But these partisan and vicious attacks by the "old boys" who just can't accept that a member of my generation, with a different view of the world than theirs, should be President. And they spent enough of our damn taxes on it to have made a helluva down payment on a program that would insure that all kids would have healthcare so they wouldn't have to go to school sick.

Well, the way I see it he put himself in a position to lie after he told the first one. He was lying to save himself money in a civil lawsuit brought by Paula Jones for sexual harassment. She, just like anyone else, has a right to due process, which bill denied her by his lying under oath in court. You just can't do that in America- even if it concerns personal, embarrasing activities that happened behind closed doors. Sorry to confuse you with facts... Hey Art, your song has gained a lot of verses, eh? Your threads are fun!

there WAS a time when it wasn't considered necessary to ASK a president what he had done behind closed doors with a woman when it was not relevant to his job...asking is just begging for concealment and deception and mis-direction! Was it technically 'lying'? *shrug*...opinions differ....the point is, Congress and grand juries didn't have any compelling reason to put him in a position where he'd be tempted to lie...let Hillary grill the silly fool, not Congress!

They didn't impeach him for his miserable sexual shenanigans. He was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice. The fact that sex was involved is incidental. Most crimes are committed for personal reasons (sex, love, need for money, etc.) That doesn't mean it is O.K.!

It was an unconstitutional breach of his privacy for them to go there in the first place. Especially, considering the underhanded secret tapings needed to wreak their dirty little connivings. If they weren't illegal they were at least immoral. And THESE guys are impeaching HIM!!!

I don't have any problem with political subjects, after all- that's what makes the folk songs fun sometimes. I do not, however, have much use for lyrics that misrepresent the truth. That is a big turn off (except for those who would participate in a lie). If the truth cannot make the song, the song isn't worth a hoot!

IMPEACHMENT TIME IN GEORGIA
by Art Thieme (finished 1/22/1999)
tune: "Peach Pickin' Time In Georgia" (Jimmie Rodgers)

It's impeachment time in Georgia
Nit pickin' time in Tennessee
A bad time now for the president
And also for Ms. Hilary
It's kick-'em-while-they're-down time in Texas
And everywhere else don't ya see
It's impeachment time in the USA
And the Limbaugher cheesebrains shout, "YIPPEE!"

They've been after the man since the first day,
Lookin' under beds and into trees,
Looking for a way to bring the man down
'Cause he dared rely on Hilary
To figure out a way to get insurance
For all in the land of the free
So they did with mirrors and smoke bombs
What could not be done in reality.

Reagan busted the Air Traffic Union,
Bush beat Sadam and then just let him be
So he'd be there to screw things up
And make stuff tough for bill and Hilary
Then they hired big-mouthed venom spewers
To pervert the freedom of speech
And to scream, "BLOODY MURDER" and "FIRE"
In the theater---then, "GET HIM"---"LET'S IMPEACH".

Now that there's no USSR
To hate "legitimately"
And since Ed Murrow slew Joe McCarthy
And he's rotting away harmlessly
It's to hell with bipartisanship
That's show we're all humanity
Let's dig up crooked Richard Nixon
To revel in this new prosperity.

And add to the list Adolph Hitler
The haters'd love to see him strut
And good old General Franco
Those were the days, sure enough
Repeal all the Civil Rights advances
And Social Security help
'Cause HISTORY, IT NEVER HAPPENED!
AND HARD TIMES ARE YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT!

So, it's impeachment time in Georgia
Prez pickin' time in Tennessee
Jump on the big bandwagon
Slam-dunk it in your face, you pinko sleaze
Now we're all as rich as old Bill Gates
But to share it went out with lefty slime
It's impeachment time in the USA
It's impeachment time, but I GOT MINE!!
