Well, in this case (and that of my brothers) we've pretty much given up making our own explosives and incendiaries and fireworks and war gases. So I wouldn't quite say that our "toys" have gotten more destructive as we've gotten older. More expensive, well, yes, probably. But I still don't have a little red sports car with a trophy wife -- I'm still getting along with my Honda Civic and the same ol' wife I've had for the last 33 years (come October).

Well, Rapaire, you boasting fool...MY longest distance sword is a Mk-12 atomic device.
I admit that it is kinda tough to get out of the blast range by sailboat, but there is a particle of risk in every human endevour.
BTW, I love surplus stores.

Skivee, MY long distance sword is called a US Rifle, caliber .30, Model of 1917. I can make a touch with it out to 325 meters, which is about as far as I can see a target these days. I'd join you with a flintlock but I'm still building mine (.54 Pedersoli Jaeger) -- I do, however, have some caplocks if that will do.

You sure you don't want to have a go with an epee? I promise to let you use the large epee and I'll use the small sword.

Thanks, MMario. Should I really stand right in front of it like this???
Rapaire, that's a very generous offer.
I do prefer to stand off a bit from my swordfighting friends.
My special, longer distance swords are called flintlocks.
As I am fond of saying, "Parry this, mudsucker...*BOOM*"?
Let's also presume that I made a selfpromotingsexistegoboosting remark about meat swords.
Hmmm, I seem to be back to boasting again.

Initially it was "go down you blood alchohol". This explains why we weave back and forth across the pounding main.
The downside of the toenail thing is that the fingernails grow faster in direct inverse proportion when the toenails grow slower. But someday, I'll solve that problem, and then the WORLD WILL BE MY OYSTER!!!! YOU LITTLE PEOPLE WILL BE MY TOOLS...MY PUPPETS...MY VAST ARMY OF MINIONS...MY VAST MINDLESS ZOMBIE ARMY...AND I WILL TAKE MY PICK OF THE WOMEN, AND THE MEN WILL SUFFER IN MY CIRCUS OF PAIN...AND I WILL USE THE MARTIAN MACHINES TO ENFORCE MY NEW RULES..AND I WILL BE WORSHIPPED AS A GOD!!!!!!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHaaaaaaaaCOUGHCHOKEHACKSPIT!
Oh, sorry, I was confusing boasting with meglomania.

I can tell the difference between fox poo and faux poo, fox paws and faux pas.

I can tell the difference from berries picked in Dingle, Ireland and Dingle, Idaho.

Skivee, me Bucko, how many many roses did you have to eat to get it to smell that way, and is that why you're always singing that "Go Down You Blood Red Roses" song. And is it true your group's next album is going to be called "Pyrites Royale-Our Golden Hits"? And on what sort of degradable stuff do you feed back on the Bayou to get your "LaFeet" to do that?

...and SINSULL, I can tell the difference between ORIGINAL sin and mere reproductions without even having to watch "Antiques Roadshow".

Well, last night a fire broke out over on Elschire Ridge which we can see from our bedroom... It was a line of fire about 1000 fett long and I could see trees burning... It was about 10:00 and the P-Vine was heading for bed so soon as she was asleep this ol' dambass hillbilly put on the boots, grabbed a shovel and drove as close as I could get to the fire before walkin' up the hill another quarter mile to the fire line...

I was met by someone of authority who assigned me to a section a couple hundred feet long and over the next two hours I used that shovel to keep my part of the fire line under control... At one point I allowed myself the thought of being able to do a little cyber-boasting but, frankly, was too buzy to dwell on those thoughts too long...

Well, 'bout 2:30 this mornin' the fire was purdy much under control and the same guy who had assigned me to that area came by and said that I could go home... Great, right???

Well, I started back toward where I thought I had mad my way up the mountain but without the fire to head for got more than a little off course and ended up lost in the danged woods and walked toward the moon and down, thru creeks and briar patches and dense woods and to make a long story short, two hours later I finally got back to my truck and didn't get to bed 'til 4:30...

I woke up this morning around 11:00 to the sound of male voices talking with the P-Vine... It wasa a couple boyes from the holler who had heard that I had been up there last night... One of 'um said that I could but in to get paid fir working the fire line but, to be honest, after last night, Iz retired... and sore... everything hurts...

No boast, just fact... everything hurts and fire fightin' is fer younger guys...

Ouch, even hurts to type...

Bobert (retired fire fighter...)

6--

Here's another verse for you, if you'd like--since the original, I think, only has one.

I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
At the annual fireman's ball
And the people they were staring because she was wearing
A newspaper dress--and that's all
She had comic strips from her knees to her hips
Where the want-ads were, I can't recall
Then her dress caught on fire and burned her entire
Front page, sports section and all.

At the birthday party I threw for my wife last weekend I played and sang Tennesse Waltz for her and her friends ... they said it was the best rendition of that song they ever had heard ... needless to say they were all fully looped on wine and I don't think they have ever heard the song Tennesse Waltz in their lives.

Sometimes I'm the president of General Motors.
Sometimes I'm the heavyweight champion of the world.
Sometimes I could bury Tiger Woods on the golf course,
But, most of the time, I'm just me, so,

I drink.

I don't think either Mark Twain or Davy Crockett talked about modesty in that quote. And you can't possibly be as modest as the rest of us.

I'm a Salt River roarer! I'm a ring-tailed screamer from the ol' Mississip'! I'm half wild horse and half cock-eyed alligator and the rest of me is crooked snags an' red-hot snapping turtle. I can out-run, out-jump, out-shoot, out-brag, out-drink, out-talk, out-fight, out-run, an' out-love any man on both sides of the river from St. Anthoy Falls to New Orleans an' back again to St. Louiee, and then up the Mizzoury clear ta the Yellerstone! I got a bite that'll tear a two-inch wire rope in half with one chomp, and I kin out-play any rock star on the gittar, trumpet, accordine, harmoniky, mandylin, zither, or dulcymore! I make the mountains set up and roar each mornin' when I kick the sun up, and I put 'em ta sleep each night when I stomp the sun down so the moon kin shine. I kin gut a deer er elk faster an' better than any two city wimmin and I kin shoot straighter'n an blind man you wanna name! When I stomp my right foot the thunder roars, an' when I stomp my left foot the lightnin' strikes! My right fist is pure meteor iron chilled down in the depths of outer space and my left fist is bubonic plague, bird flu, and the Seven Horsemen of the Apokylipse! I kin out-reckon an' out figger any college perfesser you know, and I kin read faster and remember more than that steam drill John Henry beat down! An' in addition to all that, I'm right proud to be as humble as I am!

Last week I made a suggestion at work to improve the computing, and it was acting on immediately. And I got two doses of praise, from my supervisor and my dept. manager. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeesult.

People at work swear routinely, and they stop doing so in my presence.

A little group of Gestaltists here in Norwich,Norfolk have formed the nucleus of a Gestalt network/community so IIIIIII can be seen on the web at www.gateway2gestalt.org.uk.

I have been told by various people recently that I'm sweet, handsome(beware the eye of the beholoder) and the cleverest person she knows, that last from one of my two wonderful daughters.

Some music brings me to crying.

Sinsull--Good question. Do you have an answer?    I'm perfect too--and modest on top of it. In fact, my modesty is my best point.

I hate winter, Daylia. It is getting down into the 50's at night, and yesterday it rained on and off all day. Didn't get over 65º. We suffer, I tell you. As I drove home yesterday there was even a burst of hail! HAIL! I think there's a law against it, and there will be an investigation.

... WOW am I ever great! Last summer, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I started a thread here called "Gotta LOVE winter, eh?" (or something to that effect). I promised that I would never complain about our infamous Canadian climate/weather again, and y'know what? I've proved all ye nay-sayers wrong so far --- I haven't!!!

I can honestly say that to the best of my knowledge I haven't posted (or even muttered) even one complaint all winter. Even while battling 3 feet of freshly fallen snow, when it was 30 below!

Oooooo I am just so PROUD of myself today ... and now I wanna hear your favorite boasts too.

C'mon, don't be shy -- tell me how absolutely AWESOME you are!
