I'm delighted to report that Tom Russell will be my studio guest next Thursday morning (August 3) on Folk Roots/Folk Branches.

The show airs from 9-11:30 am (eastern) on CKUT, 90.3 FM, in Montreal and in RealAudio from the Folk Roots/Folk Branches website.

Tom will be making his Montreal concert debut that night. Then on Friday, we'll both be heading to Burlington, VT for the Champlain Valley Folk Festival.

Tom Russell is the best singer-songwriter now active in the U. S.

Note how cleverly I avoid deciding between him and Ian Tyson?

Peter.

Tom Russell arrived in town late last night and will be joining me in the studio after 10 am. Before that, I'll be playing music by other performers appearing this weekend at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival.

The RealAudio feed is available from the Folk Roots/Folk Branches website.

Gotta run...

It was great. I'm thousands of miles away and got to hear Tom Russell play a bunch of songs live over the internet. Loved his new song about the Rio Grande.

Mike, I didn't thank you for giving me an opening so that I could talk to Tom, after his friday night set.

You know how I feel about him as a songwriter and performer, but to have him be a decent, friendly person too was a bonus. Of course, when my daughter is standing next to me, a lot of guys seem to be willing to talk for a long time, but still....

Now if I could only get up the nerve to play the guitar again after seeing Andrew Hardin and realizing that he didn't do it all with mirrors after all...

Peter.

Peter,

It was nice meeting you. Tom was a pleasure to work with on the radio and at the Champlain Valley FF. His concert in Montreal on Thursday night, close to three hours long, was one of the best shows I've ever seen by anyone.

We had Tom Russell and Andrew Hardin in June of 1999 and their three hour concert was as good as it gets. They previewed his album "A Man From God Knows Where", which was new at the time, and every song was a gem. I've had a concert a month since then and that was one the very best. He's as good as it gets.... Nancy & Frank.....Toledo, Oregon......
