Micca is in New Hampshire returning to Maine on Thursday in time for the Richard Thompson concert, then back to NH for the shanty sing then...hell, I don't know. I do find it unsettling to find his shoes under my bed, in the living room and occasionally in the kitchen. He seems to shed debris where ever he goes.

We Have returned from dinner at Acorns full of good wine and food and I called katlaughing today and all is spoken of. The food was, as usual, perfect, the wine was intriguing as they had only American reds, so we tried a Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon ,predictably the 2nd bottle was different (while appearing identical) to the first, but both were good Perfect food, perfect wine and perfect company, what more could I ask for?

...And a lovely time it was, too! We found the home of Curmudgeon and Bat Goddess, wherein we found Curmudgeon and Micca himself! We had a nice visit with Curmudgeon, then took Micca to Portsmouth for lunch at the "Rusty Hammer". Strolled around the park by thr river, chatted, sang, laughed, then back to the ranch to say our goodbyes.

Micca and I went to dinner last night in the floating restaurant in Portland Harbour. Neither Mary or Kendall was able to join us - they both still have the remnants of the Getaway bug, so it was just two Brits with good food and wine and lots of chat.

Just back from a Richard Thompson concert. Some loved it; some hated it. I thought I had died and gone to hell. Jacqui got the giggles...and I helped. We left halfway through but the rest of the crowd - Micca, Tom and Deborah, Tami and Jason stayed and enjoyed it. It looked to me like Peter Souza doing Elvis. Shenandoah was painfully priceless. Not sure who I confused him with - not a folk singer. To my left was Jacqui yawning loudly; to my left Micca sound asleep. I left. I'd have gone home but I was everyone's ride.
BUT... the young fiddler who warmed up the crowd was very good. Bought her CD, Promised to send her a link to Mudcat and the Digitrad.
She introduced "The Maid On The Shore" as collected in Maine. In person, she said it was a version found in Maine. Bright, talented lady. I thoroughly enjoyed her short set.
Micca is off to brush his teeth and then to bed. He has been warned - Saturday I sleep until I wake up. No noise; no questions.

I told Mary - if there is one thing worse than teenage angst it's mid-life crisis angst. Too many twiddly guitar bits, showing off his expertise and the songs were more rock than folk for me. Very disappointing.

As Mary said, the young lady who preceded him was excellent, an accomplished singer and musician. I'll be looking to get hold of her CD.

The real before the concert, chez TRUBRIT's, was excellent. Tom is a real gem who seems to be able to feed large numbers of people with no fuss whatsoever. I guess that, like the swan, all the effort goes on below the surface, but the result is always a meal that attracts the chosen like moths to a flame. Even Kendall, who has not been well this past two weeks, made the effort to come over for the meal.

Today it's the Press Room with Micca and, possibly, Mary, if she's out of bed and fit to go in time.

Well, Linn won't be at The Press Room this afternoon. I'm still layed low and recovering from the Post-Getaway Crud and I wasn't even AT the Getaway! Must have picked it up at the soiree last weekend at the home of the Perle Mesta of Portland...

If I had any energy (which I haven't) I'd fantasize about shaking seven different kinds of snot out of you all -- which, considering this particular malady, might happen spontaneously.

Sorry, Alison! I was dead to the world the afternoon you and your beloved were here -- I DO look forward to meeting him someday when my head isn't full of large dry insects and my lungs and nasal passages aren't full of the above seven different varieties.

My primary manager was prescient enough yesterday to realize I'd need another day plus my Sunday day off to recover and be more or less healthy for next week and so booked someone else to cover for me today. However I just got a call from my OTHER manager (geez, this flitting between two optical shops is making me dizzy) saying she's sending the optech there home sick this afternoon -- could I possibly cover for her tomorrow? Uh uh -- not if she wants me there on Monday, which is HER day off.

Ah well, this too will pass.

I think this is the third, possibly the fourth, Press Room Shanty Sing I've missed in the past five years since it started.

Me too, Linn. It has been almost two weeks and I am still pushing and pulling revolting crtap from my nose and throat.

Meantime, Micca (who is also sniffling) is on his way to the Press Room with Mrs. Morse.I am planted in front of the teli and computer with brain in neutral.

And who is responsible for the abundance of glow-in-the-dark religious icons, tiny penguins and teeny nuns taht are taking over my home? Where did the teeny tiny hand painted creche come from/ I am considering a new Year's bonfire with all that toxic plastic burning.

Are the glow in the dark ones radioactive?

'On his way' ... ?! He's been there for hours. I came home early. My heat came on in the wee hours and my nose is stuffy, my throat's screwed up and my voice was fading. I also was falling asleep--don't know why. I don't have a virus though. The environment hates me. Micca was singing his heart out happily, but I think Jacqui was stoically holding on to consciousness with her teeth and fingernails.
