Just name one GOOD thing that rhymes with "tout". It's all negative. And in a world where rhyming determines destiny -- a world of my own seriously warped imagining -- I think that the following make my case against "tout" self-evident. Well, except that I am pointing them out...

Pout
Out (after three strikes or a caught fly ball)
Gout
Lout
Rout
Flout

Face it -- tout is a very bad word.

But I don't hate all banjos. Just the ones that don't stay in their case.

Mudcat is extremely difficult for people named Farquahr, but nowhere near as difficult as middle-school.

While hugging my Martin's lower bout
I thought of words that rhymed with "tout"
And while I figured such things out,
A joyous cry, haloo and shout
Came in and struck me on the snout!
I leaped from inside to without
To see what this was all about!
A giant bale of sauerkraut?
Some rabble rousing soapbox lout?
But then I learned, and have no doubt
'T was just Barack, acquiring clout.

If George Farquahr Graham were alive today, he'd be welcome here!

...while *I*, who is proud of his vocabulary, am un-loved because I flaunt 'tout' and spout doubt.

Fie on you, Mr. Hardly, sir!

I just LOVE having my rabble roused.
I don't even much care the route.
But I think that you meant to say "Gravitas"
When instead you gave Barak "clout".

I was adrift in the harbor. I floated past a depth marker and noticed it was covered with what seemed to be writing -- but I couldn't decipher a single word of it. Then a small boat came to my rescue. Above the small boat on a large banner was a sign that said:

Hey...I have to ask, 'cause I really don't know - in Glasgow, or anywhere in Scotland, do the books and newspapers ever spell stuff like this?:

"... thons the pot miscryin the kettle when it comes tae ..."
and
"...thocht an aw, ony news aboot that wee Jude, ah miss her oan here so ah dae. Wi her bit Glesca craic, an aw yon gallus patter."

If so, is there a standard...and if not, why here? Little John Cameron used to do it...and Cuillinon (?sp?)...and I had to squint.

Its difficult for anyone who is lacking in social graces which results in being not well liked, off putting and when one tries to overcome this handicap with wit which is sadly deficient in being sincere and spontaneous, ones words merely come out as a bunch of mixed metaphors.

Is that whats troubling you bunky?

well maybe not, but that has been my experience anyway.

However if I wear a suit or an expensive ensemble there is no social handicap what so ever. People seem to then enjoy my remarks as if they are the wit of a well to do, wry cad.
People do tend to believe the cover of a book or a dinner's presentation over real content and flavor. Its all marketing baby, its all marketing. ;<]

The other hand is always the one you don't see quite as clearly -- that's how to tell them apart. It is usually the one that does not know what the right hand is doing. And it gets put down for not being as handy as the first hand, and less valuable with things in it than first-hand things are. But if you are down on your luck, you quickly learn there are bargains to be had at an Other Hand store. On the other hand, no-one knows what's in store...
