Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: kendall Date: 16 Apr 10 - 08:38 PM God Damn Cossacks! They give all law enforcement officers a bad name. 16 years of it and I never drew a weapon or a night stick. Admittedly, a conservation office is different from a cop, still, some of those "snapper merchants" and poachers were bad news. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 17 Apr 10 - 08:42 AM Unbelievable! One incident like that tars the whole force with the same brush. They should be taken off the force and jailed for ten years, pour encourager les autres. We see enough reality footage of US police to know that these are just the rotten minority, but it must be hard to put that point over to the rest of that crowd who were watching. Don T. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: Wesley S Date: 17 Apr 10 - 11:17 AM You would think that one of the other officers would jump in and tell the guys they've gone too far and to cut it out. Maybe they did. My understanding was that the written report said the student assulted the police officers and that some of his injuries occured when the horse accidently kicked him. Yeah....... |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: SINSULL Date: 17 Apr 10 - 12:01 PM That was the story until the video turned up. Wonder why only one officer was suspended? At least his college education is now paid for. The police have a difficult job under the best of circumstances. The crap like this happens and all of a sudden they can't do their job without fear of lawsuits. One officer runs off to the right. Anybody know where he went and why? |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: artbrooks Date: 17 Apr 10 - 12:12 PM As of yesterday, four officers are suspended. This from the chief of police: Police Chief Roberto Hylton said he saw the video and was outraged. "I see a number of officers that are acting outside of our policy and direction -- that's what I see on that tape. However, I don't want to taint the investigation. I want to make sure the investigation is fair and impartial, and I'll take the appropriate action." Hylton said it's not likely that his officers will come out of the investigation without facing charges. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 18 Apr 10 - 07:45 AM Q. How many police officers does it take to screw in a light bulb? A. It fell down the stairs, Sir! |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: GUEST,kendall Date: 19 Apr 10 - 05:40 AM It's so easy to sit back in our comfy computer chairs and judge, but as long as we hire human beings to Police our streets this shit will happen. I believe training is the key. When I was in Treasury school one thing in particular was repeated time and time again and if you couldn't remember it word for word, you failed the course. What was it? The 4th amendment. And there is also: No person shall be deprived of life LIBERTY or property without due process. Being beaten with a night stick is not due process. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 19 Apr 10 - 06:59 AM My cousin reported that during his Qld Police Training they were actually told that they 'were the thin blue line protecting Society from chaos and destruction'. I'm not making this up, you know.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Apr 10 - 08:25 AM "The horse did it" - what a mean lie to invent. You could see the poor creature backing away evidently terrified by the uniformed thugs. "...as long as we hire human beings to Police our streets this shit will happen. I believe training is the key. " Yes and no - obviously there can be situations when police can overreact in ways that are understandable, and good training can help avoid that. But an attack like this doesn't fall into that category - what is needed here is better screening of recruits. No one capable of behaving like that should be able to become a police officer. Aside from anything else, they surely put their fellow officers at greater risk. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: michaelr Date: 19 Apr 10 - 09:40 PM No one capable of behaving like that should be able to become a police officer. Seems to me it takes someone like that to event want to become a police officer. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: Bill D Date: 19 Apr 10 - 10:02 PM There's a very fine line between having men who are capable of dealing with danger & violence and 'can' do it when necessary, and getting some who revel in it and LIKE hitting others......kind of similar to boxers and football players. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Apr 10 - 03:51 PM Seems to me it takes someone like that to even want to become a police officer. I think that is nonsense. There may be police forces in which is is true, but if so, they are not fit for service. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Apr 10 - 10:39 PM I do not know very many members of police forces. Of those I do my impression would be that most are attracted to the idea of imposing authority - and very possibly that would be even more true of the females. |

Subject: RE: BS: Police brutality - Rodney King Part II From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 21 Apr 10 - 02:39 PM I had uncles and cousins who were Gardai in Ireland. Quiet men who liked a quiet life if possible. One of them got told off because there never seemed to be anyone arrested in the place where he was the local man. His attitude was that if his presence stopped people committing offences, he was doing a good job. But to show willing, he charged someone for cruelty for keeping a goat which only had three legs, but it was thrown out in court because the gaot seemed to be managing well enough with three legs. |
