I know this is only a temporary glitch for the the blowhard. He makes too much money for his keepers to get canned. But I am enjoying the moment.

I'd go a step further and say it is society's health that was attacked by Rush Limbaugh, and the issue affects women AND men. They are not two solitudes.

I do not need some bigoted loudmouth spewing his 'hatred du jour' about issues that impact women. I have daughters, and it ain't just the female of the specie that will defend its young. In as much as I think women should be royally pissed off over the things that piece of filth said, I feel that men should be also.

I read a remark on a social network site and the young lady said words to the effect that "The tweeting and letters/calls to the advertisers are working. Women do have power." That view is narrow, because many men are in this fight, too. Trouble is that people used to have power, but it's been eroded by people like Limbaugh, people like Palin. Hatred is not gender-specific, imo. YMMV.

If he'd had my eldest he'd wish he'd taken up the occupation of alligator wresting instead of radio 'talk show' host. When she was about five I was helping her learn wing chun--that was her introduction to martial arts. While teaching her a thing called a round house kick I missed a block and I saw all those little stars astronomers keep looking for. Whap. I remind her of that from time to time and we still chuckle about it. She's known all her life that I will not fight her battles for her but I will help her fight any battle that comes her way.

I'm not a religious man, but Matthew 25:40 says it well. "And the King will say, 'I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'

I've just listened to part of Rush's show today. He's practically doubling down on the issue. He admits that the words he used were wrong and says that he regrets sinking to the level of the leftists who do this type of thing all the time. It's Obama's socialist agenda that got this issue into the media in the first place.

He also regrets losing the sponsors because they made huge profits from being on his show.

AOL has dropped the show.

Of course the word many of the advertisers use (like AOL) is that they have "suspended" advertising. Sounds to me like they'd be happy to get back to his market as soon as they can.

Boycott may have batted on water but wasn't he also arrested and found guilty for batt(er)ing his girlfriend in France back in 1996? Not a good example to stand up for is he (though I do recognise you were obviously just joking about the use of the word 'boycott')?

As this thread is showing, and the actions of others elswhere, the days of some men being able to trash women and get away with it are severely numbered. Good people will no longer stand idly by and watch it happen especially when someone is in the public domain thinks they are invincible and able to get away with it.

If the good folk of this thread are anything to go by then then that 'man's' future is very uncertain. Slut or whore (words initiated by men against women in the first place) are labels earned in the face of great personal cost and tragedy often. That a man would use such a term against a woman says far more about him than it does her in any circumstance.

You are good people on this thread and have brought me out of silence to say something. Thanks for taking a stand :-)

My email to the Citracal people has gone unanswered and they have not withdrawn their dollars. The company is part of Bayer. The product is a calcium supplement for women. Wonder what they are thinking...doesn't matter. I am changing brands this week. Maybe generic.

Meantime, the MOUTH that roared is claiming that he turns away millions of dollars in advertising revenue annually - get this - for political reasons. I thought he was a comedian?

I had a look at Josepp's "Conservative Commune" link (of 04 Mar 12 - 02:02 PM); I can't help suspecting that the photo of Ms Fluke has been Photoshopped to make it look like she has a faint moustache (she certainly doesn't look like that in other images I've seen of her). I have a feeling that they've tried to subtly (sort of) make her look "un-feminine" and unattractive -- in order to prompt an unreasoning, gut reaction of dislike and uneasiness (without actually going so far as to draw a cartoony moustache on her, which would come across as just being childish).

It shouldn't surprise me, I guess... but I do find it incredibly disturbing and unsettling that people (besides Limbaugh) are resorting to such crass, underhanded tactics.

While I don't deny there are bad apples in every "basket", I also don't think that Lefty commentators get anywhere near as nasty and OTT as Limbaugh, so when he blames his comments on them and apologises for "stooping to their level", it really takes the cake...

Well, it was announced this morning that Downeast Energy, a natural gas company based here in Maine, was pulling its ad for the "talk" show at WGAN-radio. I would think that a natural gas company would appreciate Rush's periodic outbursts but I guess they think methane and propane are incompatible.

John Stewart had a really good spot on it. I think he's spot on in his point that this is not unexpected for Rush, the problem being even more that candidates, elected officials, and conservative media members see nothing wrong with it.

(And, after actually seeing the clip with Santorum's comment on the statement being "absurd", he's lost what few points he had on the topic with me. When you read it as I've just put it there, you can frame it as being "absurd!", with some sense of outrage. The way he actually said it was dismissive, as in "it's just a joke and that's the way he is.")

The media are the damned problem, imo. They put these bimbos on air and let 'em do as they wish. The FCC--an old boys and girls club that's about as objective as a pervert in a porn shop--will, of course, do nothing, and the American congress is little more than a bad joke so there'll be no help there. A report yesterday on MSNBC put the count of sponsors who've dropped out at 9. I believe AOL was the latest one included in that count.

In an apparently complete quote of the "apology" Limbaugh said that it was his "normal procedure" to make absurd statements to emphasise the absurdity of things." I take that to mean that all his advocacy of Republican absurdities means that he's really a "closet Democrat" and it has been his intention to show how that Republicans (in general) are pretty absurd.

Once one assumes it has all been intentional misdirection (the only way his "apology" has any meaning), maybe he's been a real success and we just didn't understand his "mission."

I think more people should be aware of this admission of the new stance he has taken, so they'll understand that he really thinks the opposite of whatever he says (at least that's what he said, but maybe he meant something else).
