Sage walks out the Texas door with beer in hand, picks up a plastic lawn chair and takes it over to the edge of the spray from the sprinkler. Toes extended into the cool water attract the attention of romping dogs, who pause to offer a friendly toe-nibble and to receive a scratch behind the ear before resuming play.

My friend Alice was out here the first week in May and she brought me Knob Creek bourbon and a bottle of Scotch somebody gave her -- she don't drink that stuff. Something called...hell, I never heard of it afore...Bowmore. From Islay. I ain't had the guts ta open it yet. And I will drink that like I drink the Knob Creek, the 16 year old Bushmills, the 10 year old Bushmills, and any other GOOD whiskey or whisky -- neat, or with a small dollop of crystal water.

The sculptor was the then owner of the house who she remembers as a German man named Hans. The statue was made in the late 30's or early fourties is her recollection. (But then again she hadn't even been dreamed of yet.) The woman said she would come back with photos taken during a party in the back yard. Hopefully I can get more information then. I love to find out about the speakeasy.

Bowmore whiskey from Islay (pronounced eye-lah by the way) is among my favorites. Its characteristics are smokey, peaty, iodiney and slightly carbolic with the tang of the salt air coming in off the Atlantic.

Is it 12 or 15 years old ?

I used to indulge in the 12 year old as it was all I could afford, and only on occasion. The price here has now gone beyond my range ($50 cdn).It can be had in Vermont for $18 U.S. and I enjoy it on my yearly trip down.

Drink it with a splash of good spring water and you'll be transported to the rugged wind-whipped shores of Scotland.

Not generally a spirit drinker myself, but el_punkoid_nouveau and I went to a tasting of bourbons and they were wonderful..we ended up buying a bottle of Fighting Cock and it's the only spirit (apart, perhaps from Navy rum) that I can drink straight...and do.....often.....

Diet anything is a no-no....added synthetic sweetners, which all diet drinks contain, are a REALLY bad idea. You wait and remember my words...in another year or two it will be all the headlines etc that sweetners are terrible for you and do all sorts of horrible damamge. If you MUST drink non-alcoholic, the best thing is either water, or water with a squeeze of lemone juice, preferably with ice.

Now...back to the brandy alexanders..(Hmmm, there's a thought...wonder what a bourbon alexander is like?)...what are we singing at the moment?

Well I've just come back from a trip to the west coast [of Scotland where else?] This included a trip to Skye where it rained hard and heavy for the whole day, so to console myself I went for a guide tour round the Talisker distillery.
