Halló all , I just want to know when is St. Patricks day. Why becouse I asked to play on djamm evening on the Dubliners pup
In Reykjavík on my Bodhrán with some Irish people who are coming to Iceland around St,Paticks day.
I am hoping to learn some more from them.

St Patrick's Day is always March 17th, the same way Christmas is always December 25th. Whatever day of the week they may happen to fall on. It means each year is a little different from the last year.

However in an imperfect world people sometimes cheat by having St Patrick's Day celebrations on some adjoining weekend day. A deplorable habit.

Of course the trouble is that outside Ireland it isn't a public holiday - I feel that part of celebrating it should involve taking the day off, if it's a workday. First things first.

McGrath; St. Patricks day is the biggest non-holiday celebration on earth. But in Boston, the clever Irish community made the 18th of March a holiday. Good thinking!

Never mind St Patrick's Day, watch out for April 23rd, which falls on a friday. That means you have all weekend to nurse your hangover. April 23rd is, of course, St George's Day. Drink to England!

, that is we live on fish and selling fish and the whales eat all the fish that we are trying to fish up from the see and so on .

Oh, I'd love to go to Iceland . Always wanted to go there. But it's expensive to get to Iceland from Ireland.

And April 23 is the International Book Day (Shakespeare born and dead, Miguel Cervantes de Saavedra dead).
It is also German Beer Day. On April 23, 1516 the Purity law was enacted by a Bavarian duke (only water, malt and hops to be used). It still is the oldest food law of the world. Cheers.

St. George's day 23rd April. I bet it doesn't get it's own threads like March 17th. My office wall chart highlights St. Patrick's day, but not St.George. Bloody disgrace!

Just reviewed the text of the Purity Law. It is dated expressively dated "am Georgitag" = on St George's day. Isn't it fine how all good things are joined on this sympathic Saint's day? Books, Beer, Boy scouts, and Being English.

There is an Icelandic store in the net, baut alas - they're only offering t-shirts wit the brennivin logo.
By the way, Black Death istn't the translation of brennivn, but seems to be the same as Brandy. Since it is made from potatoes, brennivin could be transferred from Wine to any other dangerous alcoholic concoction.

Yes, Black Death isn't a direct translation of Brennivin, but the tradition, if I remember correctly is that it's informally called that because some Icelanders claimed it was what kept the entire island to avoid concracting the Black Death back in the middle ages.

And Brennivin is a dry schnapps or aquivit that is made from potatoes and flavored with caraway seeds. It's an aquired taste (don't ask me how I aquired it).

You ´ll have drink the " BRENNIVIN " for me becouse I don´t drink
anymore I don´t have proplems with alcahol but when i went
to the sport I quit I may start someday but not while i am in the sports.
