In the news last night I saw that there was a rally on the courthouse steps for Nicole Collier, the representative from this district. If I'd seen something about it I'd have attended (begs the question, why didn't I look to see if there was a rally? Many of these things happen in Austen, about 3 hours south of here, and I couldn't have made it to that one.)

A local county commissioner gave a rousing speech at the commissioners court yesterday, about the right to vote. Will it touch the hearts of the GOP? I doubt it, but it was a worthy speech and hopefully will be shared widely. (I'm looking for the link, I'll share it later.)

The US Constitution has a Second Amendment, does it not, which guarantees the ‘Right to bear arms’? And the frequently-offered reason by the gun-nuts and the NRA for such a Right is to provide for an armed Militia to challenge and prevent the government from taking up arms against the people, is it not?

Nigel, I wasn’t casting doubt on the content of the 2nd Amendment, I know full well what it says.

My point was, and still is, that the NRA and sundry assorted other gun-nuts frequently quote that part of the 2nd as their reason for objecting to stronger gun-control laws yet, at a time when the security of their ‘free state’ is seemingly being attacked by armed government agencies (at least, this is how it appears to many outside the US, and I’m one of those), there seems to be no effort being made by the NRA to enact that provision by organising a ‘well regulated Militia’ from amongst its members and others.

The view of the NRA Trump supporters all around me appears to be:

1. Thank God, we've finally got a President who doesn't just talk.

2. He gets things done, even if they're wrong.

3. Maybe DC crime is down, maybe not. (The President says the figures are fake.) But down or not, there's still way too much. If the cops can't handle it, why shouldn't he call in the National Guard?

3. He's getting rid of the worst of the worst.

4. What's more, *anybody* who enters the country illegally is a criminal by definition and should be deported. They "didn't come in with due process, so why should they leave with it?" Besides, the Constitution is for American citizens.

5. The National Guard is to protect us. Why should anyone be worried if they haven't done anything wrong?

6. Trump says he's going to send troops to other high-crime cities too. Good for him!

I have never seen one of the hosts, Julia Baird, express an opinion or emotion when she is reporting the news so I was surprised that she said she was angry about this in her introduction to the news item. Not surprised at all when I heard what she had to say.

Julia Baird also quoted Doug Wilson about men who invade and conquer with their penises and create new life - or something like that. Women therefore are viewed as the conquered.

What people don't see is that America is in a temporary state of grace right now. What I would compare it to is Hurricane Katrina 8 hours after the storm passed New Orleans. There was damage, but everything looked fairly intact on Bourbon Street and in the wealthy downtown.
THEN the levees broke! The pumps broke, and 20 feet of water poured into much of the city.

Be it natural disasters, disease, pestilence, super inflation of 80%, or police state civil war, all hell will break loose without the expertise of competent people to respond. Recovery will be further complicated if a combination of disasters strikes in unison.

Long-term disintegration will hit education and agriculture, among many other systems. Rebuilding will lack equality and take a very long time. The Trump narrative will be that his revolution is going better than ever, while the underprivileged will suffer desperately unto death.

Enjoy this state of grace before the full impact of pathological dictatorship has the final word. In time, this too will pass. With enough time, history may try to portray this misadventure like a minor hiccup. The good people will tell the truth.

I expect to hear 'Brownie is doin' a heck of a job' all over again but on a national scale. While I could be wrong, there is no denying that the White Christian Nationalists are getting everything they wanted and more already. I pray that the experienced and educated people who have been fired may return in numbers thst would make a great difference.
