They're trying to set up a national voter database, but voting is always run by the states. Lets see how the Supreme Court mangles this one.

Last year I switched a portion of my modest investments (all index funds) into a "Social Index" fund - one that is following socially responsible and environmentally sound businesses. While everything stumbled for a while, this one is holding its own even with all of the anti-DEI and pro-gas and oil crap going on with Trump.

A lot of people are biding their time until this Trump era crap is over, but they're still putting their money where their mouths are, even if they're not being heard much at the moment.

I keep musing on how Leavitt was appointed to her position. I ambeing reminded of a quirkily funny woman I met some decades ago who would walk into a crowded room and loudly say, "Who do you have to f*** around here to get a drink?". (Note: she was an older lady and not a Barbie type.) I wonder whether the same process applied to Leavitt for her job application. :-D

We saw how the inner circle's loyalty to Biden became the death knell for a Democratic victory. Similar hazards exist in the Trump administration, despite its control of every branch of government.

A single crack in thin ice will spread with pressure, no pun intended.
Democrats often clutch defeat from the jaws of victory. They could run Kamala again or maybe Hillary. The next election may face internal criminal corruption as never before or something so new and unexpected from AI that there is no defense. So far, lies have not become untenable.

There is an irony that Trump must survive his term to give Democrats a better chance. The martyr sympathy vote could be hard to overcome.
Trump is a total failure at foreign policy, with Putin and Netanyahu defeating him at every turn. A failure of the economy may not matter or even the reestablishment of extreme racism. I am amazed at how the moral choices of the Democratic Party have worked against them.

The conservative fascists have gotten everything they ever wanted at the levers of government, which may be their popular undoing.

It remains a mystery how the democrats will self-sabotage themselves on top of the forces waged against them. In two years, we will see what the Democratic primaries will deliver, good, bad, or indifferent.

It's not more ammunition, it's obfuscation. It didn't happen, isn't marked as fiction, and is clogging social media. It was probably written with a chat app by someone suggesting the scenario then publishing it. Worthless and unworthy of anyone's time to read it. It's fan fiction gone mainstream instead of being tucked away in a Wiki somewhere.

A quick scan of Bluesky and Instagram this morning shows Charlie Kirk is rapidly becoming the martyr that the American Taliban needs. Forget how horrible it was that school children were shot from afar last week, they wouldn't deign to compare that with Kirk's tragic death.

Companies that remove DEI, law firms that negotiate with Trump to do pro bono work have all made themselves collaborators. I've changed where I do some of my local shopping because of that, and online have avoided Amazon a lot more than usual. I saw a group forming recently that I need to follow up on, something to do with grandparents for vaccines. People of that generation had many of the things that vaccinations protect us from, now stepping up to tell their stories. I keep wondering if one of these new groups is going to take off and have enough influence to tip other groups into more resistance activities. Waiting for the spark to ignite.

On MSNBC, Matthew Dowd was fired for describing Kirk's schtick as hate speech (it is), and leading to his own shooting (he's probably correct) and it isn't that he holds that opinion, it's that he said it out loud.

Look at the MAGA behavior, and what you see is all of the socially unacceptable stuff that before Trump wouldn't have been uttered they are now saying out loud. The double standard, as it is - do regular folks and the left want to stoop to the MAGA socially inept form of dialog, or do they want to continue to draw the lines of polite behavior? If they go low (as Michelle Obama said not to), all is lost.

Officials have identified the suspect in the Kirk shooting, and his family talked him into turning himself in or whatever. He's in custody.

The man who was shot didn't deserve to be killed, but he was not a hero or even a good guy. He was a demagogue - spouted hate and lies with a golden tongue.

The FBI was a PR mess yesterday, announcing things fast before they knew if the information was correct, then this morning Trump announced the suspect. Like when does a president do this? Only when he wants the attention.

All of this is a diversion from the budget that looms this month, and the Democrats, if they stick together, are going to try to at least get all of the Obamacare subsidies put back. This isn't Medicaid that was clobbered, this is everyone else.

Hubby was telling me today a story about a Halloween pumpkin and I suddenly had the idea of carving a Butternut Pumpkin to look like Trump. I mean, it is already orange, but also it is swollen at the lower end to represent his cankles. Think Trump baby balloon but carved out of a pumpkin, or maybe his face in the top part and the cankles at the base. Or maybe the whole pumpkin being his head with swelling dropped from his chin down.

I'm almost tempted to do a photoshop rendition of his butternut sculpture. It would give me a laugh. Or I could do it IRL and put it in the front window for the neighbours to have a laugh as well.

As a result of Charlie's murder, MAGA believes it has the moral high ground to redistrict all red states so that Democrats will have no representation there. The Communist Party was made illegal by Congress, so there is a precedent to do the same to the Democratic Party. So far, there have been no trial balloons to float that action.
