Great news for Jack Hudson fans, Jack is currently in the recording studio working on a new CD. The CD will be all acoustic, Jack and his guitar with a few added guests musicians and vocals.
The CD is to be called "Alive and Well" and should be available Jan / Feb 2005.
I have heard the title track and it is brilliant, one of the best songs Jack has ever written or recorded.
There is a track list but this may change over the next few weeks, all songs are composed by Jack Hudson, two of which have never been performed on stage.
I will keep posting more information as I receive it.

Anyway, this thread's not about me, it's about a new CD by a scandalously-ignored and underrated superstar here in our midst.

I for one can't wait - it's been way too long since 'Headlights and Footlights'.

Good!
I will be looking forward to that. I obtained a CD of Jack when I saw him at Burton on Trent some time ago and it was really good, but I've always prefered him purely acoustic. Hoping to see him live when he's in striking distance of Coventry before too long.
I keep plugging his name but I don't think enough organisers in this area know what a treasure they have on their doorstep!

May well have been CdM! As my copy was used as a frizbee by my then toddler children (it's a miracle they survived! LOL), I have no means of confirming or denying - but I do remember it was excellent and contained great versions of 'Geronimo's Cadillac' and 'Rainy Day People' by the maestro.

I can't wait!

Some more recording done last Saturday, so my informant tells me (thanks Burnstump!). Woooooooooooooooooo-Hooooo! Bring it on! If it's a tenth as good as Jack's gig at Mansfield t'other week, it'll be a cracker!

And Burntstump does a smokin' 'Poncho & Lefty' too.

Mentioned this to Jack, not prepared to comment until he has heard the recordings.
After all if he wanted a live recording, it would be a lot easier to produce than a studio acoustic recording session.

I heard the new trax done in Scotland. The album is going to be a cracker all right.

I think as fans we need to be making representations at this stage to Folk Roots to make sure it isn't sidelined into the we also received column.

It would be a disgrace if an artist of this stature who has put his life at the service of the English folk scene is ignored by the usual forces of ignoring everybody at the expense of those British artists who have the critical nod - from the oh so middle class and not very bright arbiters of taste.

Jack is a working class Derbyshire bloke and there are million ways he could have compromised his vision of what folk music is about, and most of us took those ways in order to earn a living as musicians. However he has remained true what he thinks is the right way to produce music.

The very least he deserves from the folk establishment is full length reviews, some play on the BBC and if possible interest from a proper record company.

Its not asking the world, for a lifetimes work. Its what is given very freely to desperately thin talents who just happened to play minor roles in bands who had a hit, or people who toed the party line and retuned their guitar to sound 'more traditional'.

Jack Hudson is such an intriguing talent. His guitar work is at a peak, the best I have heard during his career. I would urge the world not to miss out on him.

all the best

Big Al Whittle
