Santa! So good to hear from you!

Chocolate is always good, but you know how it goes--if it's here, I eat it. (I'd like to lose a few pounds and stay in those medium mudcat t-shirts I keep ordering!)

So you're used to a warm climate? Hmmm.

My garden didn't do much this year--we are in the middle of a drought. I have some onions and garlic harvested in the spring, but not much else. Do you have some interesting seeds perhaps, to send along? I'm into xeriscape (anything to kill the damned bermuda grass!)

There ARE others who share the holiday at my house. Two teenagers, two cats, two dogs, and an amiable ex-husband. Something the entire group would enjoy, perhaps a speciality from your area, would be wonderful. A food, a game, a book, or even better, music. What do you listen to and/or what do you perform?

I didn't mention that I seem to have a collection of decorative tiles and art in my kitchen. It evolved from tiles bought on a couple of trips and a gift from a friend who knows of my naturalist background. I have a wall with a couple of geckos and a cat and it has room for more tiles or artistic hanging critters. I like snakes and tarantulas, and would love to add some to the wall exhibit. What lives in your area? Anything similar?

I have done nothing with any calendars of late, so I think the answer to that last question must be "no."

Will your reindeer be launching themselves from caliche, or prairie grass, or perhaps a year-round wetland? Send some geographical hints, please!

Good job, mate...well, I did have to quell a small uprising, doesn't do to let their hands be idle too long, but they share your penchant for real ale and that did the trick.

Now to get to smudging, reciting incantations and boiling the newt's eyes and all...oops, sorry, wrong holiday...
now, listen here you little half-pint, sorry green-clad, red & white striped leggings idle bits of felt and woolies...get busy, I say! This moment!

Ah..now where was I dear Santee? Ummm...yes, field recordings? As in country mice? Source, as in Delphi? Blimey, it's all round the world I'll go a'fore we get this put together! Ho! Ho! Ho! And, away we g-o-o-o-o-o-o

colours? blue? purple?

..This is not easy to understand
For you that come from a distant land
Where all the colours are low in pitch -
Deep purples, emeralds deep and rich,
Where autumn's flaming and summer's green -
Here is a beauty you have not seen.

All is pitched in a higher key,
Lilac, topaz, and ivory,
Palest jade-green and pale clear blue
Like aquamarines that the sun shines through,
Golds and silvers, we have at will -
Silver and gold on each plain and hill,
Silver-green of the myall leaves,
Tawny gold of the garnered sheaves,
Silver rivers that silent slide,
Golden sands by the water-side,

Golden wattle, and golden broom,
Silver stars of the rosewood bloom;
Amber sunshine, and smoke-blue shade:
Opal colours that glow and fade;
On the gold of the upland grass
Blue cloud-shadows that swiftly pass;
Wood-smoke blown in an azure mist;
Hills of tenuous amethyst. . .

Oft the colours are pitched so high
The deepest note is the cobalt sky;
We have to wait till the sunset comes
For shades that feel like the beat of drums -
Or like organ notes in their rise and fall -
Purple and orange and cardinal,
Or the peacock-green that turns soft and slow
To peacock-blue as the great stars show . . .

Sugar-gum boles flushed to peach-blow pink;
Blue-gums, tall at the clearing's brink;
Ivory pillars, their smooth fine slope
Dappled with delicate heliotrope;
Grey of the twisted mulga-roots;
Golden-bronze of the budding shoots;
Tints of the lichens that cling and spread,
Nile-green, primrose, and palest red . . .

Sheen of the bronze-wing; blue of the crane;
Fawn and pearl of the lyrebird's train;
Cream of the plover; grey of the dove -
These are the hues of the land I love...

happy hoping, Tannywheeler!!

your very Secret Santa :-)

Joybell,

I'm so glad you like yellow - it's one of my favourites too, I've just read your hints list and I'm sure I can come up with something that will fit the bill - I've been doing a little planning already - hee hee! The elves will have to work overtime.

I don't get on to Mudcat that often, so please don't feel neglected if I don't post too often - be happy and know that I am thinking of you.

Much love,

It's the Ides of October and what is this here
On the doormat a Christmas card, first of the year
It's come from New York in the U S of A
I've never been there, it's too far away.

There's a feline motif, it's come from a cat
But who could it be? Can you tell me that
Is it really a Yankee from over the sea
Posting so early to little old me

Or has this card been put in the mail
By a sneaky accomplice who hopes that I'll fail
To deduce who my Santa is, where they reside
Left of the Atlantic or t'other side

YYo, YYo MMario
winters coming, watcha know
Elves are trudging through frost and snow
To reach old Santa's place

They are bending elfen backs
They are filling goody sacks
toys and chocolate, paperbacks
to spread their Christmas cheer

But what to send our MMario boy
Would he like a ppainted toy?
What kind of chchocolate does he enjoy?
or is he on a diet?

Does he know where Santa lives,
can he read the signs he gives
will he like the gift his nibs
the rantin' boy has chosen

MMario, MMario speak to me
Do you like Bourbon or Scotch Whisky
A cup of coffee or a cup of tea
when long days end has come

Shall I send you a wally dug
a wee gold ring tae hang fae yer lug
a souveneir fae a sailing tug
like my granda used to pilot

or would these things all be nae good
cos you're a sophisticated city dude
perhaps a picture of of me in the nude
just to keep it personal

I'll have to stop this feeble doggerel
so hep me cut through the ideas fog or i'll
have to go sit on the bog until
A have an idea of my own

Ho Ho Ho!, only me...

Just to let you know that I had to let the last 'My Little Pony' gift go to some horrid little child in order to stop her screaming, hope that you are not too disappointed.. -please , no tantrums..
I see that some things have been put aside for you already, and the elf task force are awaiting a delivery from China before your parcel is made up.(yes, out-sourcing has arrived in lapland too)
Rudolph has found a use for the Tellytubbie mountain, they are quite absorbant it seems, and even the naughty elves have been pleased to find them useful for .45 practice in preparation for the middle east delivery run.

please leave me a donut and a southern comfort on the mantlepiece, I so get fed up with mince-pies and sherry....., even the reindeer won't eat them nowadays and I have to be careful doling out the sherry, some of them are AA members (Rudoph doesn't have a red nose for nothing!). But at least now the sleigh has sat-nav we won't get lost again (sorry Easter Bunny)

chortlingly yours
Santa

Many thanks Santee Dear, for all the information which has been digested and will assist in forming your gift parcel which my cheeky elves will be preparing shortly. It'll be by Slow Reindeer I'm afraid, they're in training & I mustn't allow then to overdo things before the big day.

Am certain that you're familiar with longitude & latitude via maps & possibly with GPS. Have sent some sheets of information about a game which can be played in your location before Christmas & could be something you'll enjoy for quite some time to come! I do hope that you'll get into the spirit of the thing, in fact you may already be aware of it's existence. If you go to the site & read the FAQ's you'll see that not a single hair, feather or blade of grass will be harmed by players. Around here, we're careful to pass the game on to like-minded individuals so that nothing get's spoilt. Hope you'll approve of the concept & enjoy the game!

Geographical clues... well, the leaves are falling though it's been many years since we had a decent snowfall. The climate has shifted so much that we're all a bit worried, not as much rainfall as usual & we try to take care of our water reserves too. Does that help?

Helen of harp with water all 'round
I looked at your hints on the thread
Colours and interests, suggestions abound,
And all I can think of to rhyme is 'dead'
But no, that's bad manners, that word
I'll have to forget THAT rhyme
But oh dear, the next that occurs
Is just as bad - I need time
To think - to consider - to be smart
On the ball - original - ahhhh! fart!
Oh forgive me oh Helen
I'm surrounded by smellin'
things, so I'll log out at once
with the sad bad knowledge
that I'm just a rhyming dunce!

Oh Santa, Santa you jolly old elf. Thanks for the nifty note. Too bad about the Tele-Tubby, but I'll just have to get over it. As for the donut and Southern Comfort, they will be in their usual place for you. (If you change your mind about the Sherry, you know where its kept.)

Please watch out for the neighbor's dog. Its still not used to strangers and will probably rip you a new one if you get too close. We are pretty sure the grizzly bear has been captured and taken back into the wilderness, so not to worry on that account (remember last year?). Good to hear you have finally upgraded and install NavSat, but remember, if your flight plan is not filed properly, Homeland Security will more than likely send a couple surface to air gifts your way as you pass through. Paranoia is alive and well in the 49th state.

Best wishes,

I am being VERY good
Not even getting in a mood
When people ask me stupid things
I just bounce back, as if on springs
And say I'll help you (just like that)
Even when I think they're a total.....(insert appropriate word)

That IS being good

Don't you fret none about hard & fast guesses at this stage of the game Stilly, let's treat it as just thinking aloud! Won't take you long to find me, so I gotta act mysterious. Not been playing this game long, though thoroughly enjoyed my attempts at confounding my last Santee & being confuzled by my Santa.

Have only one batch of seeds from my garden that *might* survive in your yard, so geographically we're farther apart than you might think. My English may not be up to scratch, but I guess that's evolution rather than learning....

Do you DVD by the way? And what format do the machines on your continent normally use? Got some grand stuff to send you of characters in my local folk world (you ain't seen nothin' yet) & I can burn in most formats luckily. Hoping to brighten up Christmas for the whole household!

I'm sorry, SS!

I've been neglecting this (and just about every) thread cuz I've been in "getting ready for the Getaway", "Getaway" and "Gotaway" modes lately -- not to mention two days down and back.

Sounds like my SS is either bossy or in the military -- expecting orders to be carried out ASAP by a troop of elves! Ohmagawd!

But I have to reassure my Santee that I'm on the job as well.

I had over 2200 pieces of spam at my Yahoo address when I arrived back in New Hampshuh his afternoon -- and over 600 pieces of mostly legitimate mail. Haven't even checked my REA L address yet. (oy)

Hmmmmmmmmm......waited until you thought you were old enough, before hinting, eh?

Are these REALLY early Christmas signals?

....... or are they REALLY late Birthday signals to make me feel guilty and send more loot?

Now, which of these suggestions would be within the powers of the Great and Almighty......

CLAUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(cue in spooky music)

Now I could find some of those black picture tees she says she likes, with the image of Tiger Woods himself, but what color golf balls would she like? Hmmm.....Something to ponder.......

Dragons too close to oil lamps sounds like too much of a fire hazard.....Hmmmmm....Maybe not......

Aromatherapy, eh......Maybe when in Arome, I should do like the Aromans.......A possibility.......

CD's? Maybe the Little Drummer Boy's solo album, "Beat The Christmas Rush" would do the trick!.....The duet with Ginger Baker on "Wipeout" is quite a rhythmic tour-de-force.......Hmmmmmm.......

I'll just send this out by messenger elf and work on some more fiendishly good ideas...........

I spy with my little eye some hints on the hints thread, left by someone identified only as
"GUEST." Surely he--or is that you? must jest!

My deductive powers surmise that said Guest MIGHT be you, because:
1. He is male, which, being a Robert, you presumably are too.
2. He is a Brit or from the Commonwealth, because he likes football, yet clarifies that he means soccer, suggesting he knows his SS might be a Yank or some other barbarian.
3. He is vegetarian, and you mention you are of that persuasion in one of your posts.

So, Robbie, is that GUEST indeed YOU? If so, do you not want CDs because you don't have a CD player? If so, if a musical gift is in order, should I send you:
A. An LP
B. A musical instrument
C. A musician?

SS009,
Yep sounds like me all right. Hadn't realised I was not logged on, sorry.
I do have a CD player, I don't have a record player. It's just that I think CDs rarely get over the life of folk music. I do like and dabble with all kinds of musical instrument.

I've been back and forth lately, so haven't been able to do much hinting...but my elves and I may be able to get you some postal cards. Some of them might even be from where I live...or not. Want a kitten?

Dear Elf-Alpha and Sidekicks

There is NO WAY I would want to give you any extra work by trying to con you into more pressies. That wouldn't be playing fair (and I'd never ever thought of trying it :-) )

Bright yellow golf balls could be fun. Then I could play with the kittens in the dark with them. However spending time ruining a good country walk by hitting them with a club is not one of my usual pastimes.

You also have an interesting taste in music - I agree about the Ginger Baker!

I am looking forward to your visit and will try and be a good girl until then.

Lots of love and hugs
Tig xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ah yes, I remember you. You're a regular on the Good Girl List. No,you're not forgotten. I was away, checking on how well the EGMU(Elven Gift Maker Union) was getting on. We have a very good worker-distributor relationship here. I think that they ho beyond human kindness and craftsmanship, and I hear that they've been known to say I was a real saint.
So you like licorice, eh? Does it have to be socks?
