Subject: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: GUEST,Dani Date: 12 May 07 - 11:03 PM OK, hokey hallmark holiday it may be, but what the *#@^. This year I've decided to celebrate. Several mothers I know (and God knows, I'm only one of them) have had one HELL of a year. Don't even get me started. But I have watched these women struggle with all kinds of adversity, and manage to keep their focus throughout, maintaining grace and dignity. These are just the ones I'm privileged to know. I'm not sure my days are always marked by any kind of dignity, but I'm damn proud that I've kept my head above water, and from all accounts I have two lovely, smart, wonderful daughters who SEEM to think I do an ok job. I'm looking forward to my coffee and toast in bed, with snuggles and stories and a day of love. I love my job. I'm glad every day that it's my best and most important job. And I am raising my glass to all you ladies who are keeping at it every day, come hell, high water, ingratitude, travail, sorrow, pain, poverty, adversity, loneliness, fear, you name it. Here's to you. And if you have it easy and good, here's to you anyway. It's all good. Dani |

And regardless of your gender, Happy Mother's Day as well to all who have nurtured, protected, or taught children, youth, and adults to be all that they can be. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: TRUBRIT Date: 13 May 07 - 08:54 PM All three of my kids came home for dinner. The oldest gave me a gift - a photoframe she had filled with pictures of me and all my three kids that she had scrapboarded. The middle one said - your gift is on the way. I said, that's fine - I love you anyway. And the youngest ate dinner politely and courteously despite the fact that his sister's picture had one of him in my arms as a very clearly male newborn...... Life aint\'t so bad.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: *daylia* Date: 14 May 07 - 08:08 AM Two of my three sons and my daughter-in-almost-law came over with a dozen roses, some fine Swiss chocolate and flowers for my garden. They cheered me up (was having a lousy morning till they got here!), mowed my acre of lawn (or rather, meadow), filled the holes in my driveway, helped me plant the new flowers and remove a couple dead shrubs, let me to pics and videos of them with my brand new digital camera, helped me figure out how to upload said pics onto the computer (never did that before), shared a few howls over those videos!! and accompanied me over to MY mom's for more gift-giving and a delicious turkey dinner. And my carless (but not careless) youngest son, who lives out of town and unfortunately had to work grave this weekend phoned to wish me happy mother's day early in the afternoon. Ahhhhh life is good and kids are THE BEST!!! Hope every other mom out there had a wonderful day too! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: Alice Date: 14 May 07 - 08:52 AM I have a great son. He asked if I wanted to go out for lunch or dinner, but I didn't really want to. We went out and bought a lawnmower, as our old one has died, and then played a couple of hands of Kings Corners. Playing Kings Corners with Ryan is something I've done since he was a little kid. It always gives me a feeling of peace and connection with him. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 14 May 07 - 11:30 AM My mother always used to pooh-pooh Mothers' Day as a "greeting card holiday" and insist she didn't want gifts or anything. I agree, but it sure is nice to get special phone calls from both my sons wishing me a happy day! Actually, this year -- as a Grandmother by less then two weeks -- I beat Dan to the punch by calling up to wish Geeta a happy Mothers' Day. She reported that her new son had given her a special present by sleeping in an extra hour! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Mother's Day, all From: ClaireBear Date: 14 May 07 - 01:33 PM I got a rock....actually two rocks (brown ones, dug out of the garden) wrapped up together with a rubber dinosaur pencil holder and a piece of a plastic toy. I choked up appropriately. (And, separately, a potholder my son had painted at school, but that hardly counts as the teachers are really in charge of those projects.) Oh, and the best thing: he chose a very nice rose for me from the vase of flowers to be passed out to mothers at my church. For this I was quite grateful; I was singing in the choir so by the time I made it to the front of the church to get my Mother's Day bloom, the only ones left were miniature pink carnations. But there was Martin, proudly holding the last rose. For me! Cheers, Claire |
