Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 M From: GUEST,Ray Date: 07 Mar 08 - 12:42 PM My motorhome has central heating but as I only live 5 miles down the road it wouldn't feel like going away. Can you actually get caravans on the site next to the Stags? Yes its cold! Came back from the Cotswolds on Weds. and there was a sprinkling of snow about. As I said last year, just remember that the Peak District is on the same latitude as Siberia! Ray |
Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Mr Happy Date: 07 Mar 08 - 01:19 PM As i said last year, caravans can go on the hard standing at the garage/ cafe opposite, The more hardy types've had caravans on the field during the last coupla years, but only little 2 berth ones. If you're thinking of coming down the w/e from only 5m distant, you'd just as well kip in yr car on the field. Are u muso/siner? Hope u can pop in anyway |
Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 M From: GUEST,Ray Date: 08 Mar 08 - 05:21 AM Parking the van in the car park opposite isn't my idea of fun. It would be more comfortable to bring the motorhome than kip in the car - the car doesn't have toilet, shower and running hot water, TV, DVD and cooking facilities - not to mention a fridge for the beer and a double bed. As for coming along, we tend to stay away from the Peak district on bank holidays 'cos its full of tourists. and being a muso/siner? - No, I play guitar and Mandolin! R |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 M From: GUEST,Ray Date: 08 Mar 08 - 09:52 AM I think it needs too much electric for that site - If I do I'll park it on my mates drive up the road in Wardlow. I'll think of you if I drive past over the weekend. If anyone is there on the Thursday, there's usually a session at the Manners in Bakewell. |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Grab Date: 10 Mar 08 - 09:17 AM Damn - didn't notice this when it first came up, else I would have put it in my diary. I'm seriously busy at the moment though - current commitments include practising with my band, looking for gigs for my band, mixing demos for my band and for another band, sound tech for a local singer-songwriter thing, publicity material and band-booking for a world music festival this summer, setting up websites for myself and for this festival, building foldback speakers, buying a house, and getting some hang-gliding in. Oh, and trying to spend a bit of time with Emma too. If you stuck a broom up my arse, I could probably sweep the floor as well. ;-/ So I'm afraid I won't make this one - I'll have to leave you to your sinning (and maybe even singing) this time. Any plans for another Stags meet in the summer? Graham. |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Grab Date: 10 Mar 08 - 10:14 PM I suspect one with that kind of fitting is more likely to come from shops for, erm, "specialist" interests. The kind with blacked-out windows and signs saying "over 18 only". ;-) Ironically Tim I just got one of the older Behringer feedback killers for a bit less than you outbid me for. So all's well that ends well. Although I'm a bit less sure about feedback-killing since I couldn't get my existing box to kick in at our band practise last weekend. (Memo to self - bring the sodding manual next time.) Graham. |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Big Al Whittle Date: 24 Mar 08 - 02:20 AM Enjoyed meeting everybody - sorry my look ins were so brief. If we get more sensible weather next time _ i'll try and work out a stop over. When you guys camp - where do you actually stop. I bought a cheap campervan off e-bay last September, but its been nowt but shit weather ever since. I went to the Cheltenham guitar festival with it in September and even then it was real freeze your nuts off weather. I haven't figured out how to stay warm in the bloody thing. It stays on the drive as a constant reproof to my wanton extravagance - I could have bought two of the latest Yamaha LD models or a couple of second hand Lowdens for what that bugger cost. Instead I have to keep replying to people who ask - what sort of guitar is that - it cost a hundred and thirty quid on e-bay, by way of an explanantion. |
Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 M From: GUEST,Ray Date: 24 Mar 08 - 12:59 PM Hi wld - keeping warm in a campervan can be a pain. Our motorhome has central heating which runs on either 240 volts mains or butane/propane gas. If your camper doesn't have built in heating you could always use a fan heater but that assumes that your van has a mains input and the site you are staying on has electric hookups. Bear in mind that hookups on some sites have a relatively low rating (say 6 amps) and if you plug a fan heater in - or a hairdryer or a combination of lower wattage appliances you're likely to trip the mains out and you'll stay cold. Most of the better sites have 16 amp hookups. Ray |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: GUEST,Tally Ho Man Date: 25 Mar 08 - 06:10 AM It was great to see folk again and have a few beers. We brought our caravan and couldn't get it on to the camp site but the proprieter of the cafe over the road let us park it on the hard standing next to it. Water was a bit of a problem, we had to get it from the campsite. We were very cosy especially on Sunday morning in the snow as we're cooking and heating on propane (although we ran out on Sunday morning). The cafe provided a good breakfast. 'Twas good to meet Mr Happy's brother, Ernie, as we share a common interest in fell running and had mutual acquaintences in another life! |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Mr Happy Date: 28 Mar 08 - 10:33 AM weelittledrummer, Hi Al! Re camping, we camp on the field next to the farm. If you stand facing the pub, there's a farm then a house & bungalow to your right. The camping field's just past the bungalow, you need to undo the gate to get in. If you're contemplating bringing a campervan next time, the field's fine if the weather's been dry; but if it's wet, you'd be better to either use the pub carpark or the hardstanding of the cafe opposite [after asking permission from the proprietor] As regards staying warm, the 6 of us were plenty warm enough in our BIG DOME TENT. But bear in mind that in inclement weather while camping, it's advisable to wear all the clothes you own, plenty thin layers top & legs, long johns etc + a hat. You can get tent heaters that run on gas for about £15, I guess one've these'd prob be ok for heating a camper/caravan too. There's one here for £9.00! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sherwood-39-82-Portable-Gas-Heater/dp/B000MIIA6G Hope to see you next Easter & hopefully catch you some other festivals during the summer. |

Subject: RE: 3rd EasterMudFolk PeakDistrict:Come on!21-24 Mar From: Tyke Date: 01 Apr 08 - 12:35 PM Saddleworth? I may make a further attempt to get there again this year. I'm afraid I upset the Police in the village looking for somewhere to park on the Saturday Night. I don't know why they were upset the patrol car they were in was parked illegally too near the junction on the left. Hence my headlights, which were dipped, dazzled them as they observed the main streets revellers. Perhaps it was my knowledge of the Highway Code or the fact that I had I not had a drink at all that upset them I don't know. I was just a little abrupt with them, when I told them the truth that it was the worst excuse for stopping someone I had ever heard. As a musician being stopped and breathalysed is just something you get used to. It's not a problem I would rather be stopped and breathalysed than run the risk of driving whilst under the influence and injuring or killing anyone. But some of the reasons for stopping you or when they follow you for miles first are a joke. I was once driving over the moors to Whitby having left work a ten at night in Leeds. The roads were white with ice and snow and after straightening out a bend this bright spark stops me after folling me for two miles and accuses me of preventing him overtaking me on a bend. All I said was "So That's Overtaking on a Bend Then!" I think that the next time this officer decides to have a word with me he better find his dictionary first. |
