Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 07 Mar 11 - 12:08 AM Well Beer, I hear you loud and clear but my black rum runs at 151 o/p. I only knew one man, a friend of my father in law, who could down half a water glass of that stuff strait. My uncle loved his scotch and would say that it should only be mixed with spit. My father would take his drop like yours. They called it a sandwich; a bit of water, a shot of rum, and a bit of water as a chaser. |

You got me laughing and crying at the same time. Thanks for the memories. In fact, when I gets there this summer, I'll give you a call and we could meet for a drink of Pepsi! Sounds good to me. ad. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Lonesome EJ Date: 07 Mar 11 - 12:22 AM Worst- Mountain dew, without a doubt. Best- probably Vernor's Ginger Ale, or Ale8one, if you live in south central Kentucky. I like Coke, and find it has more punch and is less sweet than Pepsi. |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 11 - 04:06 AM The worst in my memory is the "New Coke" that they tried about 15 years ago. Reminded me of Pepsi. It was quickly abandoned. I rarely drink carbonated sodas, (preferring beers for my maintainance cabonation). I like the lemon-limes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 07 Mar 11 - 04:12 AM Cheap Panda fizzy pops in any flavour made as an affordable drink with youngsters pocket money in mind and small enough not to be wasted. The taste is so synthetic especially the bright red cherry flavour and it looks really nasty too. I haven't seen them in shops for a while so I am assuming that shops have hopefully stopped selling them. Although not the worst I was disappointed with the taste of Doctor Pepper I thought it was going to be a lot different and would make me want to buy it as a regular drink like Coke or Pepsi but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. My favourite was the 'old' Tizer in a glass bottle not the updated version that is around now. With Coke and Pepsi I find the plastic bottles they come in spoil the taste of both brands anyway. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Mar 11 - 04:26 AM My favourite soft drinks are Ginger Beer and Spruce Beer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 07 Mar 11 - 05:27 AM How CAN people drink skimmed or even semi-skimmed milk? When I was a girl, it was given to the pigs! Ahhhhh... Tizer.. yum! And those lovely glass bottles, you got money back on them. Anyone remember Jubbly, and the frozen one? We made ginger beer at school, with a 'ginger beer plant'. It stank and tasted dreadful. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: gnu Date: 07 Mar 11 - 05:55 AM As for milk, drink only skim milk for two weeks and then try regular milk. Make ya sick. Yeecchh! I drink little milk but it's skim milk. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Shimrod Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:01 AM Dr Pepper is definitely the 'Worst Soft Drink Ever'. It's never taken off here in the UK and it baffles me as to why Americans seem to like it. It tastes like some sort of medication - more suitable for rubbing on your chest than drinking! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Ed T Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:33 AM I drank TEQUILA in Cuba that had a similar taste to the first warm flowing from a garden hose on a warm summer day. I suspect it had the taste of the container it was stored in. I refuse to drink any booze from a plastic bottle, as seems to be on the increase. I can taste the plastic. Canned orange juice, and Tang also tastes bad to me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:34 AM If I have to drink milk at all it has to be flavoured with something to make a frothy milkshake rather than raw. Some people used to talk about Dandelion and Burdock, I've never tried it but it sounded like it would have a really disgusting taste. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: EBarnacle Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:37 AM What is Tizer? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:38 AM I can't stand dandelion and burdock and I know that it's because I was given some medicine flavoured with it at an early age. Why didn't they flavour it with something like pepermint? |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Mar 11 - 09:11 AM Every time I sit in my favorite Sushi bar and sip hot green tea from a Japanese cup (no handle) I am comforted by the thought of how ineffably superior I am to the wretched heathens who guzzle Coke, watch NASCAR, and read old Cheech Wizard comics. ;-) Someone asked how I like Coke as compared to Pepsi. Well, I always liked Coke the best of soft drinks and I didn't like Pepsi at all, for the same reasons LEJ gave...Pepsi's too sweet and Coke has more oomph. New Coke was dreadful. At any rate, I don't drink Coke anymore. It was the drink of my youth, but no longer. I'm too ethereal for a drink like Coke now. It pollutes my aura... (grin) |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Rapparee Date: 07 Mar 11 - 09:58 AM Then there are Royal Crown, Double Cola, and Kool-Aid, the last being only useful for hiding the taste of water retrieved from the wells in rice paddies or the over-chlorinated stuff from water points. The mention of green tea (which I can sorta stomach) brings up the various flavors of "white tea" now available. I had a sip once. Like decaf coffee, I fail to see the point. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Mar 11 - 10:22 AM My least favourite soft drink is one I've never drunk! But there's a 'root beer' flavoured jelly bean that tastes disgusting, and if it's anything like the drink then I'm extremely happy to have never drunk it. Diet drinks are often sweetened with aspartame. If you belive what a lot of people say on the internet you'll avoid this additive. I mainly avoid it as I prefer sugar. But for the finest soft drinks I've found in any country, might I recommend Fentimans. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Nancy King Date: 07 Mar 11 - 10:54 AM My favorites are regular (NOT diet) Coke, and Orangina. Tried some blueberry soda in Maine a couple of years ago. Sounded like a fine idea, but -- Ptui! And some of the Jones flavors Bill linked to sound absolutely awful. "Blue Bubble Gum" soda? Ewww. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Bill D Date: 07 Mar 11 - 11:29 AM That is nothing, Nancy...compared to their early efforts. History of Jones from wikipedia... from that article: "In 2004, it offered a complete, drinkable Thanksgiving dinner—five bottles—as a box set for $16. Turkey & Gravy was brought back, and the rest of the flavors were unique to this offering: Green Bean Casserole, Cranberry, Mashed Potatoes with Butter, and Fruitcake. The limited edition pack sold out in under an hour, temporarily crashing the company's email and Internet servers. As in 2003, people resold some seasonal bottles on auction sites such as eBay, with bids reaching as high as $100 a pack. I SAW some of those, but was not smart enuf to buy some for resale. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Lonesome EJ Date: 07 Mar 11 - 12:13 PM Green Bean Casserole, Cranberry, Mashed Potatoes with Butter, and Fruitcake.Bill The mashed potatoes might be tasty as long as there aren't any lumps. I'm too ethereal for a drink like Coke now. It pollutes my aura... Little Hawk Actually, laboratory tests show that the presence of cola drinks can be detected in your aura for up to 50 years after their consumption. My aura is actually dark brown, fizzy on the edges, and tastes a bit like a Cuba Libre'. |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 07 Mar 11 - 02:24 PM Ebarnacle, Tizer was a drink from the 1950's, red, fizzy and delicious. All these people who don't like milk! It's gorgeous! Especially thick and creamy Jersey milk. Get it down ya! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: Ed T Date: 07 Mar 11 - 02:29 PM ""How CAN people drink skimmed or even semi-skimmed milk? When I was a girl, it was given to the pigs!"" I grew up on a farm and we also gave skim (separated) milk to the pigs. It was not that it did not taste good. The only reason was there was no local market for drinking milk, we could only sell cream, to make cheese, ice cream etc. And, we had too much for ourselves and our neighbours, who also had dairy cattle. Today, in Canada, there is a supply marketing system. Unless farmers have a milk quota, they cannot sell milk to the dairies. Quotas are fixed, and expensive to purchase. That keeps the price in stores controlled and high. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 07 Mar 11 - 02:38 PM That's interesting, EdT. I've been drinking a whole pint of milk daily, sometimes TWICE a day, all my life, I adore it. (Full milk that is.) But I don't think people do nowadays, they just put a drop in their tea or coffee. In school, we were all provided with a third of a pint in a glass bottle (just after the War) None of my friends (of all ages) actually drink a glass of milk. Yogurt is very popular here, but generally 'low fat' YUK! I don't much like drinking fizzy drinks or alcohol, so milk is my 'tipple'. |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST, topsie Date: 07 Mar 11 - 03:27 PM I very rarely drink soft drinks now - too sweet. Back in the 1950s I used to love tizer, it had a lovely caramel taste as far as I can remember, but either my taste buds have changed or the taste of tizer has changed, because after reminiscing about it recently I bought a bottle. It was horrid. No other flavour apart from sickly sweetness. I used to know an elderly Scottish lady who couldn't drink tea for medical reasons so when other people were having tea she would have a cup of hot water. She called it 'silver tea'. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Mar 11 - 03:43 PM Only one responder named TAB, far and away and hands-down the most awfullest soft drink ever. NASTY stuff! The only explanation I can imagine is that too few of us are old enough to remember it. Tab was one of the very first artificially-sweetened "diet" sodas and had the most obnoxious aftertaste. It was a Coca-Cola product and supposedly "the same" as Coke but with saccharine instead of sugar, but it really didn't taste anything at all like regular Coca-Cola. What it tasted like, I suppose, was saccharine. Female consumers bought it for it "non-fattening" properties, but consumption of Tab was virtually unknown among boys and men ~ not at all like today's Diet Coke, which is very popular among people of all genders (especially software developers, who are apparently conscious of the sedentary nature of their occupation and the subsequent need to cut calories). |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Mar 11 - 03:49 PM I've been reading lotsa detective/lawyer/court books. Every damned time someone reaches for a drink that has no alcohol, well, be gollied, it's a Diet Coke. I think some folks got no tastebuds. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: ClaireBear Date: 07 Mar 11 - 04:14 PM I must agree about Moxie. I wanted to like it, and I've tried twice, but I think I'm done. I had a Russian blackcurrant soft drink that was fairly vile recently, too, but the Moxie was far worse. Has anyone here ever tasted that six-pack of bottled soft drinks flavored like the components of Thanksgiving dinner? I'm thinking the turkey gravy one must really be something....but I can't say for sure. I am strangely fond of Cheerwine, but that may be temporary insanity. |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst Soft Drink Ever From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 11 - 06:22 PM Well, I only like diet sodas (diet coke and diet ginger ale especially) because now the regular sodas taste too sweet. I don't drink straight soda all that often. At home my favorite drink is iced tea mixed with diet ginger ale - it gives the tea some fizz and zip. And I often make my own 'sodas' - seltzer water mixed with some orange juice, cranberry juice, etc. I do enjoy fizziness! |
