Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Fred Date: 20 Jul 25 - 07:55 AM As I said in my PM, Dave, it's not yet a given that I'll be there. It's my intention to be, but I've several things to deal with first. Cheers Fred |

Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Fred Date: 11 Aug 25 - 06:52 AM I hope to be there with my Ome North Star open back 5-string banjo, and Mrs F with her fiddle. Unfortunately my Martin D-18 will be in hospital by then. He's developed an A string buzz :( -F |

Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 23 Aug 25 - 02:51 PM Did I imagine it or were there some posts on here regarding complaints about the dance organisation at Whitby this year. I was going to reply. Robin |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Jack Campin Date: 23 Aug 25 - 11:08 PM It was great to meet up with people from before but I got to almost none of the events I wanted to. The problem wasn't the programming, it was the geography. Almost all the venues beside the harbour have gone, leaving things spread out up the hill. I wasn't well enough to get between them in time and my wife had it even worse. This interacted with other problems to make 90% of the content inaccessible. It's turned into a fellwalking festival with a musical theme. I can't see us going back unless more events can be scheduled close together and low down again. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Aug 25 - 03:31 AM Did you get to the European music sessions at the top of Skinner Street, Jack, and have you seen my PM? |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Jack Campin Date: 24 Aug 25 - 10:10 AM Thanks Dave - the Eurosession was the main thing I got to and I've got your picture. I don't usually have a melodeon face when playing but that thing requires thought. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: cujimmy Date: 26 Aug 25 - 09:18 AM Had a very enjoyable week this year along with my friend Bridie, we were mostly in the singarounds and sessions. There seamed to be more of them this year, but our favorite was in the Black Horse and then the Station late in the evening. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 26 Aug 25 - 02:34 PM I discovered, for the rirst time in umpteen years of going to Whitby, the wonderful English tunes session in the Granby. It will be my go to in future :-) |
Subject: RE: Whitby Folk Week August 2025 From: Tattie Bogle Date: 27 Aug 25 - 07:56 PM Sorry to miss it this year, though I was beginning to find the hills a bit taxing last time there. If Facebook is to be believed, there have been a fair few cases of COVID since, so maybe it was best to stay at home! Re the Granby, we did form part of a small session there the last time we were there: a mixed bunch of people who knew different tunes from each other and each did their own thing, so it’s good to know that it has achieved some sort of session identity. And a very good and reasonable place for a meal! |
