Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: Amos Date: 30 Apr 04 - 12:22 PM Ricostruisca tutta la speranza, voi che eneter qui!!, reads the sign over the door. The air hasn't moved in a decade, even though the hardwood wainscoting gleams and the ancient Turkish carpeting seems as though it were put down just last year. In the background there is a faint sound of banjo music playing slowly, and a drip of water from somewhere, and the sound of snoring from behind the high, ornate, polished wood desk. It's another day in the sleepy hollow known as the Belacqua Hotel....where the handshake is a little slower. |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: GUEST,John K. Date: 30 Apr 04 - 05:15 PM A lunchtime phonecall found everyone doing fine and playing at the lake. Charlotte says to tell Kat's daughter that her cracker-eating idea was well appreciated and there were no morning barfies. Everyone is lounging in the sun, Lake Roosevelt is too cold to swim in, and Jen's teaching the girls a new cheer for when their Daddy runs in Bloomsday tomorrow. Joe and I fly in tonight and will take this with me. Thanks. Bill, she is nuts. We just don't use the 'n' word because if we do, we get to hear the 'Harlan Pepper' impersonation for the millionth time. One must choose his battles wisely. The kestrel is one I have not heard. Is it anything like the eagle? She had to sit on a pillow for a week with that one. It is one of my favorites. John |
|
Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: Amos Date: 30 Apr 04 - 05:39 PM John: In case you come back for an answer, the kestrel was a hawk which Jen wrote into a collective fiction thread we had here. But she had her main character set it (the pet kestrel) alight (meaning, "put it down somewhere") which everyone else jumped on for setting the poor bird aflame. She's never lived it down! A |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: Willie-O Date: 04 May 04 - 04:07 PM Guess Jen-Ellen's stuck in the Okanagan Time Warp. If she took my advice, maybe even the much deeper Kootenay Time Warp. Usually takes six or seven weeks to get outta that one. |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: JenEllen Date: 05 May 04 - 11:36 AM Wow. Thanks, all. I mean it. I got the thread dumped in my lap this weekend and truly enjoyed it. I'm bushed. It was a long weekend, got home Sunday night and I was just about sick of people. I sent John packing back to Portland (thanks for the Hansell thread, BTW, just give the guy more ammo, whydontcha?), and got some rest. My Monday doc's visit wasn't as great as I'd hoped--my spread seems to have been arrested (lovely image, ain't it?) and I get to continue on with my buddies at "herceptin happy-hour" for a while longer, but that's the most concrete they'll give me this week. Honestly, I was so happy to not have to go straight from CT to OR, that I would have taken just about anything as good news. Does Bert's credit card cover chemo-cocktails? There could be a whole new product line for the Tavern there... Much love, ~JE |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: JenEllen Date: 05 May 04 - 03:49 PM Thanks, all. And you're right, Mary, thankfully no more surgery. You of all folks know how lymph nodes are, never know you'll miss them until someone takes a knife to your armpit! *bg* There was good news after all. My ECG today was bee-yoo-tee-ful. Apparently I have the heart of a healthy 30yr old woman, so we're gonna stick with that! I also lobbied to have the "cozy" taken OFF of my drugs, and finally won (some wiseass crocheted a bunch of IV bag slipcovers with flowers on them---like you won't know what's in them as you sit there---to eliminate the subconscious fear of chemo drugs. I asked what I was supposed to do about my growing fear of gardening, and they finally let me off! LOL) |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: Morticia Date: 06 May 04 - 02:56 PM Jen, I don't know where you got the heart of a 30 year old woman but put it back before someone finds out it was you that took it, you're in enough trouble, ok? ( Sheesh, you let that woman loose in a hospital for five minutes and she's bagging organs like it was a treasure hunt...it wouldn't be so bad if she would wait until people are done with them). |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: GUEST,Jen-sitting Johnny Date: 08 May 04 - 06:34 PM Fava beans and a lovely chianti, SINSULL? She's more 'jelly beans and a pint of the black stuff, please.' --dontcha think? Allison, she has been cheery enough, of what I've seen (when the johnny flaps, I am instructed to NOT see), but there was a time after the first surgery when her next-door neighbor in the hospital was a confused man who yelled "WHAT TIME IS IT???" every five minutes or so. Our girl had murder in her eyes. The Hansell story was good, you guys. I've read the later stuff, and you can see your evolution. I have been tipped off about a Jukejoint story, and I'll read that one tonight. Thanks again, John |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: catspaw49 Date: 08 May 04 - 07:10 PM Ah yes, the Mudcat Juke Joint ........that was where we wiped out Gargoyle.........A good read though and a lot of fun trying to hold it together and keep the storylines on time and a bit limited so the thing made a bit more sense. Or at least we were in sympatico on it...LOL...... Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: JenEllen runs away from home From: SINSULL Date: 08 May 04 - 07:34 PM Re: "johnnies". As some of you know, I am rather well endowed. Huge actually. So...this last trip for another mammogram, I followed the required routine: stripped to the waist and put on the gown given to me with the opening to the front. The problem was that the opening was all across the front. No amount of pulling and tying could disguise the fact that it was 10" shorter than necessary in circumference. I decided to clutch my purse to my chest constricting the appendages as far as possible so that I could maintain a modicum of modesty. The other ladies in the waiting area, all amply covered by their gowns, pretended not to notice. And there i sat refusing to make eye contact with anyone and swearing that I would lose weight before the next mammogram. Finally my name was called and the technician led me into the examining room. She turned to ask me a question and laughed out loud. I was mortified. Turns out my gown had been mislaid. It was from the Children's Wing. Wrong pattern. I waited for a new gown to appear dreading the possibility that it too might not fit. Do these things only happen to me? |

I don't think so!). I'm glad to hear of the mistake, humiliating though it must have been for you! Allison |
