Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: bobad Date: 06 Jan 08 - 07:11 PM Gee Bruce, a search of the DT for "Go, Lassie, Go" brings this up: GO, LASSIE, GO (Stephen L. Suffet) I walked my dear old collie, Across the blooming bower, But she never stopped to piddle, Though I walked her half an hour! Will you go, Lassie, go? I don't recall hearing it, you must have sang it while I was seeing a man about a horse. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Emma B Date: 06 Jan 08 - 07:20 PM Then there's the Kipper Family version - The Wild Mounting Time Oh the Springtime that is coming, And the girls are in a dither. 'Tis the Wild Mounting Time And I am wondering whether Do you go Lassie go And will we go together At the Wild Mounting Time Or will I get Bloomin' Heather Do you go Lassie go ? My love is like a swan With the lightness of a feather, But her friend is like a goose And they call her Bloomin'' Heather I will build my love a Mower And cut down that Bloomin' Heather Then at the Wild Mounting Time My love will be mine forever. If my truelove she won't go Then I surely will not bother For at the Wild Mounting Time I could even fancy Heather ! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Jeri Date: 06 Jan 08 - 07:25 PM Congrats on the concert, Bruce. I'm glad you had such a great time and got to swim in the sunniest part of the music scene pool. Ok, that's a weird metaphor, but you know what I mean. Welcome Home! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Brendy Date: 06 Jan 08 - 07:42 PM Brilliant, Bruce. It would have been one of the highlights of my life, were I in the same position... ... way to go ... Thanks for taking the time to PM. B. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Bee Date: 06 Jan 08 - 08:28 PM Makes me feel good just reading how well it went... I almost hear the noise of crowds and the sounds of music starting, from the excellent descriptions posted. Congratulations, Bruce - now, when are you doing that Maritimes tour? |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Janie Date: 06 Jan 08 - 08:48 PM Ron, I've been in North Carolina enough years for my West Virginia twang to have substantially given way to a southern drawl. It does sound like it was truly a wonderful evening for all concerned. Peace, I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it as much as did the many who came to hear you and the other fine musicians. Janie |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Rapparee Date: 07 Jan 08 - 05:07 PM I haven't posted here yet not because I didn't think Bruce could do it -- hell, anybody who fights fires and cleans up wrecks while working with high school students can do ANYTHING -- but because I kept reading this thread title as "Bruce Murdoch protest" and when I'd get it sorted out I'd be laughing too hard to post anything. I glad all was well. I only wish I could have been there. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: GUEST,Jack Shultz Date: 08 Jan 08 - 01:25 AM Hi Bob, If I remember you right, you were the guy who played and sang "Bo Jangles" and introduced with the line " you can't beat a good song with a stick". You were right. That was a great song. I remember Bruce Murdoch back in the days when he was an acne challenged teenager performing at the New Penelope. He wrote some good songs himself, and he introduced me to a lot of great Dylan songs. The last time I saw him was back at the '73 or '74 Sudbury "Northern Lights Folk Festival". Unfortunately, he put his politics ahead of his music in his performance, expressing his solidarity with the North Korean regime. Lately, I heard him on CBC radio here in Montreal. I heard he was performing on Friday night, but that was my jam night, and I never miss my jam night if I can help it. I hope that you too are still musically active. Take care. Jack |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Azizi Date: 08 Jan 08 - 05:50 AM I hope that you too are still musically active. -GUEST,Jack Shultz I'm glad that you two and three and four and five & so many more are still musically active -meaning Bruce, and Bob and all the rest of those who were composing good songs, and making good music way back when they were teenagers {acne challenged or not}. And from reading the descriptions of Bruce's Montreal concert, I'd say that Guest Jack missed out on a great musical experience by opting to attend his jam session rather than that concert. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: Azizi Date: 08 Jan 08 - 05:56 AM Hmmm. I didn't mean for that whole post to be in italics. One of these days I'll master out how to do that changing font thingy. At least I keep on tryin and sometimes I really get it right. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 08 Jan 08 - 09:43 AM Hi Kids: You got the curiosity going. If it's this Bob you're talking about, I never did Mr. Bojangles, but I opened for Jerry Jeff Walker, who had the hit with it. The "stick line" I don't remember...It is a good song though. Flashes going off in the neurons, old memories, me and Mr. Bruce at a party, 1970? at Liz Tansey's place on Prince Arthur. Felicity Fanjoy, sweetness. Hope she's still going. What a beautiful spirit that was the essence of the 60's. A voice gentle & quiet like the winter mist. (Looking out the window of my studio into the back yard with the trees. God's Blessings...) You got calmer just standing next to her. And, in the era of Vietnam, this meant a lot to me. "Our condition was not pure" to mangle a line from one of Mr. B's songs. As we attempted the seemingly impossible task of crossing the street, little did we know that nearly 40 years later, all this would be happening. I used to watch Bruce at The Yellow Door, observing how much he was getting out of that Martin without playing 6 notes a second. "Che Guevara," "Can I Come Across to You," you learn from stuff like that... Yeah, shows like what happened at La Sala are like meteors, they are here and then gone. A group of like-minded spirits come together for a brief moment in time, and then POOF; another memory... And as time goes by, you begin to realize just how precious all this stuff is... Oops, the squirrels are looking at me. They see the human inside the house and show themselves to get some nuts. Feeding time. Got to go... bob |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: bankley Date: 08 Jan 08 - 10:29 AM it's all precious for sure, a certain scarred fragility and tender strength, and Bob, better watch your nuts around them Waste Island squirrels.... |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch podcast From: C. Ham Date: 08 Jan 08 - 02:42 PM Bob, Felicity Fanjoy was in "Ryan," the documentary about Ryan Larkin that came out a few years ago. Last I heard, she was working as a counsellor with Inuit kids in the far north. |
