Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 14 Jul 12 - 04:49 PM We've been having a really nice afternoon, with one really odd moment. We just spent a couple of hours at a "garden party" - artists selling, artists painting, musicians, food concession - at the private gardens of some obviously very wealthy folk a few miles away. All sponsored by the art gallery in town and a number of local businesses. So, we were meeting a bunch of folks who hadn't seen how Judy is doing since the big blip; all cool. Then, Judy happened to mention the new great nephew we acquired a few days ago. The only thing was, she informed those present that he was born on an airplane. Strangest thing she has said since just after the attack. No harm done, might as well laff I guess... |

Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 20 Jul 12 - 08:11 PM We had been planning a trip east, to Judy's brother's summer place on Martha's Vineyard, then up to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island before turning back toward home. Until a few days ago, I wasn't figuring that any real travel was realistic for now. But Judy is doing great. We saw her cardiologist the other day, and he said he didn't see why she couldn't make a trip east. I'm working on an abridged version of the previous plan: Martha's Vineyard, then maybe just up into Maine, and a bit of Quebec on the way back. We'll do motels instead of tenting some as we would have. First cardiac rehab session today; the light first workout they gave her barely blipped her pulse rate. We're thinking in terms of setting out after she finishes a rehab session about 2pm next wednesday, the 25th. |

I was thinking of you guys at Apple Hollow on the weekend and remembering meeting you there in '09. And Judy's good performance at the open mike. So hoping you will make it back to Ormstown on this trip 'cause it would be great to see you again! I know you were scared....... but your Judy is one tough chick! And you guys are lucky to have each other. But you know that. So you will be a Namaste on Friday, august 3 or 10th? ... |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 24 Jul 12 - 11:34 AM Won't get to plan on the open mike this time; we'll probably stay at Ormstown on the 5th and 6th, or 6th and 7th, depending on a detail to be sorted. |

Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 27 Jul 12 - 07:27 PM Update, from Red Hook New York. We spent Judy's birthday yesterday driving from home thru Ontario to Dansville, NY. Wound up in a motel that, while not actually nasty, was shoddy enough to be kinda disappointing for her birthday evening. Made up for it a little by watching the old Ernest Borgnine movie "Marty", which neither of us had seen. Today's drive included some miles winding through the Catskills, discovering some fun stops. (What kind of cattle have horns as long as Texas longhorns, but curved a bit differently and much thicker close to the head? No, they were'nt water buffalo or bighorn sheep) |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: ChanteyLass Date: 27 Jul 12 - 09:11 PM I hope the rest of the accommodations on your trip are nicer but not much more expensive. Can't help you with the cattle! |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: gnu Date: 27 Jul 12 - 09:19 PM Sad to hear about the hotel being shoddy on the big day but ecstatic to hear that you two were there! Happies atchya Judy! |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: Bobert Date: 27 Jul 12 - 09:37 PM I've been in that motel, f-prince... Makes ya' wonder why you actually have to pay to stay there... Ol' black 'n white movies kinda make 'um authentic... B~ |

Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 27 Jul 12 - 11:07 PM Bobert, in April of '11 we went to Death Valley. The route I laid out put us in Shoshone, CA., one night. Calling Shoshone a town is kind of a stretch. One motel. The bed was ok, it wasn't really dirty, and I didn't see any personal safety issues. But. It allegedly had a kitchinette: The outer shells of some cabinets were hanging there sagged out of shape, and I would never have considered trying to light that stove top. The bathroom floor looked like someone had spread black adhesive and dropped vinyl tiles on it; trust me, I have a photo. Bobert, that place made the motel last night look like the Ritz Carlton. And maybe sometime I'll tell you about when a Navy buddy and I stayed at the Hotel Marion in Chicago 47 years ago. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 27 Jul 12 - 11:16 PM Not quite, Kat. I was just thinking I would link a picture, but I'm shooting high res and don't have the software here to reduce to a believable file size to put online. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: John MacKenzie Date: 28 Jul 12 - 04:33 AM Stayed in a Super8 in Watertown, outside Boston once. It was crummy in spades. What colour were the cows Dean? |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 28 Jul 12 - 07:29 PM Cinnamin would be pretty close. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: Bobert Date: 28 Jul 12 - 07:50 PM Hmmmmmm, f-prince... One of us is following the other around... I think I have been in that motel, too... lol... My worst??? It's on Rt. 33 half way up the western side of the Blue Ridge Mountain... The TV *is* black and white... The bed sags half way to the floor... You really don't want to touch anything... Even the water seems dirty... But it's cheap... B~ |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: gnu Date: 28 Jul 12 - 08:38 PM I stayed in a motel near Fredericton, NB for an hour. I was not pleased to start with but when my foot went through the floor while I was firin up the shower, I packed my bags into the wagon and turned in my key. Slept in the wagon. The *itch wanted me to pay half the nightly rate as I had the room for an hour! I told her about the hole in the floor and suggested she get it fixed before the next inspection... she got the idea. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: frogprince Date: 28 Jul 12 - 10:53 PM gnu wins;I thought if I got around to the Hotel Marion story, no one could top it. I may still get to it, as it had it's points. But I can't hope for grand prize anymore. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: Bobert Date: 28 Jul 12 - 11:01 PM Yeah, I am bowin' out, as well... I mean, fallin' thru the bathroom floor is Olympic quality nasty... B~ |

Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: gnu Date: 29 Jul 12 - 11:34 AM Never stayed in a hotel with an outhouse. Once had to crap in heavy duty plastic bags in a makeshift crapper (garbage can) but that was inside a house trailer on the coast of Labrador. Makkovik, labrador - look it up. It's ah, er, quaint. We were looking forward to a sewer hookup but the toilet cracked all to hell when they dynamited the bedrock next to/under the trailer to install the pipe. I was asleep in the bedroom next to the washroom when the blast went off (a simple misunderstanding)... near shit myself. Say... this is kinda thread drift innit? Who started this thing about crappy hotels? |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: SINSULL Date: 29 Jul 12 - 01:00 PM My worst experience was in Detroit. Flight cancelled due to an ice storm. Checked into a hotel half starved and exhausted after hours in the airport. Went to my room to find NO WATER. None. At the front desk they told me that a pipe had burst - they knew it when I checked in. Best of all, no kitchen. They had had a fire the previous week. The only food available was in a vending machine in the lobby and it was empty. It was a big chain hotel - can't remember if it was Holiday Inn or not. |
Subject: RE: Frog prince thoughts and prayers for my wife From: SINSULL Date: 29 Jul 12 - 01:03 PM On that note - there will be a bed available Sunday night if you'd like to stay. Micca will be in the other room. We are invited to Kendall and Jacqui's for an afternoon bar-b-que but you will have your lobster roll at some point. I have running water, food, drink and fans - no AC. But it has been cool at night. Not luxury or even particularly elegant but good company. SINS |
