Now I feel like I should go get my santee's present right this minute. Well, it does have to be soon, anyway. Elves! Stop lying around and get to work! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Blackcatter Date: 28 Nov 02 - 06:09 PM Goody! I've heard from "Blackcatter's S-s-s-secret S-s-s-santa"! That's all I wanted (well, except for a present, of course...) BUT I'LL BE PATIENT! Thanks again. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Pushkin's Secret Santa Date: 28 Nov 02 - 11:44 PM Ho, Ho, Ho, and a bottle of ... no wait - I've sent your present. Hopefully it will arrive by Christmas. It's in a box about so big, by so wide. It's brown (the box) and it has your address on it along with a Secret Santa note on the top. Or is that Santa's address and a Victoria's Secret on the box, in the box, um... Ah hell, it's coming! Hope you like it! cheers |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Mudlark Date: 30 Nov 02 - 08:11 PM Yippee!!!! My present arrived from Singapore!!! And it was exactly what I asked for and I am thrilled with it. Loved the stamps, loved the Robot Bug mailer box, wrapped round with official green Inspection Tape!!!, loved the note and most of all, loved the contents. Secret Santa, there is nothing that could have given me a bigger smile. I have shells from Hastings, shells from Spain, from Belize, from Hawaii as well as my own California coast, but none as treasured as these. I know I should have waited until Christmas, but then, I never do. And besides, one side of the box was crushed a bit and it was necessary to examine contents for damage, right? I am embarrassed to say that though you have given me such a huge hint, I am still at a loss to know who you are. Please, please put me out of my misery and tell me who was out on the beach picking up shells for me...the ones from the Phillipines are knockouts, and it delights me that the ones from your own local beach are much like common shells I pick up here every time I walk the tideline. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Mudlark's Secret-Santa Date: 30 Nov 02 - 09:38 PM Muddie, dear, you're much too easy to please. The pebbles and shells are just to let you know I haven't forgotten you while my elves search the corners of the earth for your actual present. And it could be that the Singaporean shipment, rather than being a huge hint, is a ruse to keep you from knowing my actual geograpical location. Sometimes locations can be a clue as to Mudcat names, but not always. Keep smiling and keep watching your mailbox. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 02 Dec 02 - 05:15 AM Thanks for the musical hint Secret Santa. You should be pleased to know that I'm completely CLUELESS! The first time I listened to the song I didn't even think it was in English. After listening to it many times now I can decipher about 3/4 of the words, but really they make almost no sense to me at all! (That last line in the first verse...) Can't you give me more hints? I've narrowed you down to someone in the Western US who likes animals or someone with a British accent who sings Irish songs or someone who likes art and museums... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Bardford's SS Date: 03 Dec 02 - 11:01 PM Bardford, me lad, you'll probably have a hard time guessing my my true identity, but here's a hint or two. You probably would think I'm beneath you. (And you'd be right.) But then, in at least one sense, I'm quite a bit ahead of you. There was a time in my life when I was more like you (at least in one objective way) than I am now. I have often found myself challenged since joining Mudcat a while back (but I always find some help from the immortals when that happens). I can't say I can traverse the globe in a single night like my mentor from the North Pole, but I do get around quite a bit. Mudcatters who were concerned with being dated may have seen more of me last year than they did of most other Mudcatters. Your prezzie should be on its way sometime this week. I don't think you'll have trouble getting it B4 Christmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Bardford Date: 03 Dec 02 - 11:33 PM I loves riddles, I does! Let's see- beneath me- geographically, I guess. Ahead of me - vis a vis Greenwich time, methinks. Like me - hmmmm - charismatic, charming, strong, sensitive, adored by women, children and old people? terrible fiddler, yet delightfully engaging at parties? Comfortable in jeans by the fire, or on the beach in a tux? I must do some thread sleuthing. Or, I suppose I could just wait. Thanks for the note! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Monsieur Bardford's Santa Date: 04 Dec 02 - 12:37 AM Well, Bardford, you're right on count one, wrong on count two. And if you think YOU'RE a terrible fiddler, you shoulda heard me when I quit my lessons as a kid! But as to our similarity/difference, I was thinking of something more concrete. We once shared a sort of 'kinship,' I guess, but now we're neighbors of a sort. (As for the intangibles, let's see who adores me: women? maybe (but I hope not exclusively). Children? Sometimes. Old people? Usually. Violin/fiddle afficcionados? See above. "Charismatic, charming, strong, sensitive..." Do you also love long walks on the beach and hate phony people? LOL! Some word pieces of the puzzle: carol beavers and geoducks and palms wishes spiral strawberry an old friend from Nazareth rose and emerald (and sunshine?) scorpion cowpie ailurophilia Ë bient™t, mon fr쳌re! Sayonara. Und auf Wiedersehen! Shalom and all that, too! |

I'd love to join the guess-the-SS's-identity game, but I'm gonna need more hints. Then again, maybe my SS doesn't want me to guess before I open the pressie (?). Orrrrrrr... maybe my SS doesn't know about the split-the-thread-into-pages feature of the new 'Cat and can't open the longer thread (??). Seems that I am playing a guessing game here, but not the one I thought I'd be playing! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Genie Date: 05 Dec 02 - 03:33 PM Well, I've elminated Kendall and Mousethief, so to speak, by their prolific positing propensities. (Alex, I thought of you because of "runamuck" and because you live near the epicenter of the big quake that hit Seattle while I was visiting a couple of years back. And I thought it might be Kendall because of a post my Santa just posted in the "Songs NOT to sing in nursing homes" thread.) Now I'm really getting puzzled. Hmmmmm.... Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Bardford Date: 06 Dec 02 - 04:09 PM Okay, my benevolent and generous-with-the-clues Pere/Mere Noel, here's what I did: I took all the clues you've provided and created a FileMaker Pro database. Then I ran those clues through the Mudcat Thread history thesaurus analyzer/algoryhtm generator(its a new thing-I don't think even Max knows about it yet). Then armed with that information, I tapped into the Florida Voter List database random partisan de-registerer which results I then imported into my Itunes program and converted the whole dataset into an mp3 file. I haven't had a chance to listen to the results yet, but I will announce the results on this thread. (Likely around Christmas time.) You on the left coast? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Mudlark Date: 07 Dec 02 - 02:05 AM This is IT, SS....I demand more clues than these fabulous stamps and great handfulls of coral, shells and what look like inviting bits of Sensen...from Thailand!!!! I am intranced, and intrigued, and now in the process of carefully steaming off all these great stamps that *cover* the envelope, while cudgeling my brain, and pouring over posts, feeling sure that, like beachcombing, the next step will lead me to a significant find. But getting an exotic envelope like this, with the return address simply "Mudcat SS" is totally frustrating! Good Mudcat drawing tho...I'll give you that. Thanks for making my mail the very best part of the day! Your humble servant.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Nathan in Texas Date: 07 Dec 02 - 11:12 PM My Santa's a Ding Dong! That's a clue, I'm sure. Hmmm, Ding Dongs are cupcakes. There's a current thread about Nibbling Cupcakes. Cupcakes are made by Hostess.. . Is either "meek or bold" and "young or old." That narrows it down. I've just about got it figured out now. Let's see . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Nathan in TX's SS Date: 08 Dec 02 - 03:02 PM Good grief, Nathan. You are hilarious. You're getting close on me being either meek or bold and young or old, but I'm not a Ding Dong! Really, I'm not. Well, it's pretty cold outside here, but there's no snow. I've never lived anywhere where it snowed before, and now I move here, fully expecting snow, but there's no snow. Egad. Will I never get to live with snow? I was so excited about it, too. Anyway, your gift will probably be mailed tomorrow. Santa is a procrastinator. It's not entirely my fault, though. Hezekiah's wife insisted that he had to stay home to recover from his cold, leaving the already-overworked Ananias to do all the work, thus losing several days' progress. The important thing is that your present will arrive before Christmas. Here's another lyrical clue for you: Ding dong merrily on high, The Christmas bells are ringing Ding dong verily the sky Is riv'n with angel singing: Gloria, hosanna in excelsis! Gloria, hosanna in excelsis! --Santa Claus (who should be writing a paper right now....) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Mudlark's Secret Santa Date: 08 Dec 02 - 03:35 PM A clew, she wants. Let's see. Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,Helen, using IE Date: 09 Dec 02 - 01:02 AM It's here! I went to the Post Office and there, waiting for me was a huge cardboard box. I *had* to open it to make sure that everything was okay, because the Oz Quarantine service had placed a sticker on the box saying that they had inspected it. Lots of purple packages, beautifully wrapped! I am under STRICT instructions not to open it all until Christmas, so I guess I'll have to wait. The truth is, I was kind of hoping it *would* take 3 weeks to arrive because then I would have a better chance of fighting off temptation. It has Mary S (Internet etiquette prevents me from writing the surname) written on the label and I thought I would have a great deal of trouble figuring out her Mudcat name, but she posted to the Morticia's got troubles thread, mentioned Portland, and signed herself Mary, so I now know --- ta-da!!! --- that Sinsull is my Secret Santa. So, miracles do happen. It only took 10 days to get here. She has obviously taken pity on a poor woman whose attitide to presents is not unlike the "seafood diet", i.e. "see food and eat it". [When my sister and I were kids she could keep her Easter eggs for a whole week just taking one little nibble once a day until they were all gone. Mine were all gone in about 10 minutes.] She has included a newspaper and a magazine for me to keep busy with while waiting for Christmas Day to roll around. Slowly. And now I get the references to the Union. There is a very very interesting twist to this story, which I will reveal later, maybe in a week or so. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Helen Date: 09 Dec 02 - 01:07 AM There is a second interesting twist, too, which I will also reveal in a week or so, when my Secret Santee gets his/her present. Helen (Back in on Netscape - fickle browser programs!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: GUEST,KIM C's SECRET SANTA Date: 09 Dec 02 - 03:45 AM Kim Man Friday tells me he had to fill out a green customs form to send you your present. Soon, very soon, I assure them. All in good time. This week. For sure. It'll be on it's way. Good thing there aren't any ponds to cross! No polar circumnavigation required! It's only travelling from a place where he's glad his niece isn't living. Santa |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Mudlark Date: 10 Dec 02 - 03:28 AM A clew....hmmmmm.... a clue in itself. Gift in Friendship, you say....well, a part of my last gift was a handfull of sand from Thailand (one of the most exotic things I've ever received!). Makes me wonder, just as a wild guess, if you might be Sandra from Sydney? Other than that I am flummoxed--the "which entirely coincidently" phrase makes my brain skew sideways. Hand poised above collage.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 10 Dec 02 - 08:02 AM Hello, Mudlark wrong!! T'aint me - keep guessing sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: SharonA Date: 10 Dec 02 - 01:17 PM goody goody goody meow goody goody goody meow goody goody goody meow! My Secret Secretive Silent Sneaky Secret Santa's package arrived safe and sound! Checked my post office box after closing time on Saturday to find a yellow card saying that a parcel too big for the box was being held for me, so I couldn't pick it up until yesterday – oh anguish! The cardboard envelope has several stamps on it that say "Australia" and there's a return address from Oz, so unless my Sneaky Secret Santa is being extremely sneaky by asking one of our Oz 'Catters to send it for him or her, I'd guess that my SS is one of those Oz 'Catters themselves. Ah, but which one? Sandra in Sydney? Depends on how strictly one defines "Sydney" since that's not what the return address says (even though the mailer's first initial is "S", it may or may not be my SS's first initial! Might be his or her Spouse, or Sister...) (or Seudonym... *G*). Then again, Helen posted as a guest using IE on the same day my SS talked about using IE at work... On the other hand, my SS made a reference earlier to having been off-line for a while, but the posting histories of both Helen and Sandra show no great gap between posting dates at that time (heck, I've been away from the 'Cat more than they have, recently!). Same with alison's posting history. Hmmmm... did I miss any other Australian 'Catters on the SS sign-up list? Ennnee-wayyy, I opened the envelope so I could look at the cat wrapping paper! My SS is right, there's a multitude of cats there: lots and lots of click-art carefully collected by my SS and printed out on blue paper, tied with a blue ribbon! Big cats, little cats, "hang-in-there" cats, Bill-the-Cat cats, all wonderful cats! :^) :^) :^) Now comes the hard part: waiting till the 25th to open it! I've been good so far; I put the package into my big knitted Christmas stocking right away so that only the corner of the package peeks out to tempt me. If need be, I'll push it in farther toward the stocking's toe ("out of sight, out of mind", they say... yeah, right!). Wonder if my SS's true identity will be revealed when I open it? So thank you, Secret Secretive Silent Sneaky Secret Santa, for sending the pressie and the fun of anticipating Christmas morning! Meow! :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: SharonA Date: 10 Dec 02 - 01:39 PM Oh ho, I see on the "I opened my SS pressie" thread that Helen is Firecat's SS, so I guess my package wasn't from her, then. Hmm hmm hmmmmm... |
Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints From: Mudlark Date: 10 Dec 02 - 03:01 PM Bleary-eyed from a late night of searching thru Mudcat for "clews" I'm now not much forwarder than I was. Wait...not true! Now I know at least one person who is NOT my SSPerplexer. Flag and geographical clues are forcing me to look closer to home...hmmmmm.....must check Profiles again...while I put the rest of my life on hold! Seems like I ought to at least get points for the sand/Sandra connection however...I thot it was brilliant... |
