Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: olddude Date: 31 Jan 10 - 08:27 PM Do you guys have any idea what you did!! I mean think about it ... here is a friend, someone you loved, he passed away ... to honor the memory of your friend, you put together a CD and it was Nominated for a GRAMMY !! A Grammy !!... when I die I could only hope that I leave this world with friends who thought a tenth as much of me ... That is where you folks have really moved me ... not just because of the Grammy ... but because you did it out of LOVE I take my hat off to you kind sirs and misses Dan |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Leadfingers Date: 31 Jan 10 - 08:31 PM When I saw the Louden Album was in 'Our' Category , I DID think it represented some competition ! |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Ebbie Date: 31 Jan 10 - 08:38 PM It occurs to me (I'm slow) that the reason that the REAL honor is in being nominated is that the CD had to be specifically chosen, had to be so good that someone(s) said, Hey, this album needs to be in the lineup! After all the nominations are in, the selection depends much more on mood, clout, persuasiveness and the humiditytytyty of the day. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 31 Jan 10 - 08:44 PM Both recordings paid tribute to artists that deserve greater recognition. The accomplishments are extraordinary. I wish it could have been a tie, I love both recordings so much. Job well done by all! |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: kendall Date: 31 Jan 10 - 09:06 PM It was a labor of love for another folkie so how could it be a loser? It isn't, it's a howling success, thanks to Dan and Jacqui. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST,winterbright Date: 31 Jan 10 - 09:42 PM Aw, poop. You're still winners in my (and many other) book(s)! |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Rapparee Date: 31 Jan 10 - 11:45 PM Yeah, well, DAMN. But like making the Olympic team, you did something others only dream about doing and you did it out of love. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Feb 10 - 01:45 AM I'm glad that it was Loudon that got it. We did real good getting nominated. It has been an interesting weekend - we have seen some amzing acts this evening, even if some of them wer definitely NOT to my taste, but I can now say that I was in the same room as Placido Domingo and Andreas Bocchelli, two of my heroes, in addition to yesterday being in the presence of Leonard Cohen. Kendall's daughters have been wonderful companions and I have loved spending time with them. I'll be glad to be heading for home tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: open mike Date: 01 Feb 10 - 02:15 AM It was Great that you were nominated...what an honor, achievment and accomplishment!! Another folkie, Ramblin' Jack did win in his category...which was blues and sort of a stretch for him. congrats to all and happy to know that you made it to the top and that many people were able to hear Utah Phillip's name and learn about him via your efforts... |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Feb 10 - 02:46 AM Well, I'm always going to believe that you should have won. We're all very proud of you. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominatio From: Genie Date: 01 Feb 10 - 02:51 AM All you folks who teamed up to do this wonderful CD of Utah's music should be poppin' buttons with pride, even if you didn't get the blue ribbon. You and Utah were recognized for the excellence of the music - and you who were there at the ceremony got to hang out with some real legends (like Leonard Cohen and, of course, Weird Al). (Now if Jacqui had writhed around on a rope trapeze, wearing only a flesh-colored unitard and spraying water on the crowd, who knows? ... ) |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: ClaireBear Date: 01 Feb 10 - 02:56 AM I'd say that trapeze act was in questionable taste, but actually there wasn't much question about it. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST Date: 01 Feb 10 - 03:15 AM Actually the trapeze act was pretty cool live. I have no idea what it looked like on tv. Had we one, we were of course planning to thank the Mudcat, and each of you personally. Really. Since we didn't win (nobody really loses at the Grammys) we can only say this! Bedtime! Dan |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominatio From: Genie Date: 01 Feb 10 - 04:33 AM You guys look great, Dan! LOL (I actually liked the trapeze act pretty much, and wasn't surprised that Pink did something like that. At first I was borderline shocked - then I realized the dancers were all wearing body stockings. Probably wouldn't play in Peoria, but I thought it was pretty artistic. ) |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominatio From: Janie Date: 01 Feb 10 - 06:22 AM What everyone else has already said! Janie |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 01 Feb 10 - 07:32 AM In my books .... you won Kendall biLL |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: SINSULL Date: 01 Feb 10 - 08:07 AM I was really disappointed in the trapeze act. I thought for sure it would end with a shorted microphone and a blaze of glory. Ah well... |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST,Dani Date: 01 Feb 10 - 08:14 AM Bill, I won Kendall in a backgammon game, once, but I had to give him back. The photos are beautiful, guys. You LOOK beautiful! What an experience! You deserved every second of fun and glory for a great job well done. Rest on those laurels for a long, long time : ) Dani (who is a HUGE Pink fan, and thought her act was amazing, if a little weird) |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominatio From: Charley Noble Date: 01 Feb 10 - 08:25 AM Dan- Thanks for posting the photo of the group. It certainly looks as if you were ready for anything. Great work! Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Jeri Date: 01 Feb 10 - 08:44 AM I thought Pink and the trapeze act was great, and almost gave it a standing ovation in my living room. Same for Lady Gaga and Elton John, Same for Andrea Bocelli and Mary J Blige. Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks: Swift began with a lot of off-pitch moments but leveled out. Was that the Morse contingent yelling when the recording nomination was announced. I heard the 'whoops' and thought, "They ARE there!" |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: katlaughing Date: 01 Feb 10 - 10:29 AM Sounds as if we missed some excitement by not watching the evening show. I was glad to see that Masters of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar have come out with a second CD and won in the afternoon presentation. I'll bet Utah was laughing up a bunch with you all and those noses. That is a priceless picture, imo. Congrats, again, you have done a GREAT thing! |

Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: katlaughing Date: 01 Feb 10 - 11:48 AM Look at the red nose picture? Though I would like to see more of it, too.:-) |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: ClaireBear Date: 01 Feb 10 - 12:38 PM I believe that the red nose picture was taken at the nominees' reception the night before. At least, the lovely red ensemble was what Geeta wore to that, and she was wearing a magnificent purple number for the award show. I hope someone took photos of our duded-up pals, on the day. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: kendall Date: 01 Feb 10 - 02:07 PM I don't get it. Those photos were not in the local paper today. |

Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST,bankley Date: 01 Feb 10 - 03:47 PM looks like a blast.... did you get any swag ? I'm glad Steve Earle got one, as well as Ramblin'Jack Elliot, Levon Helm, Derek Trucks, and Steve Wariner for his Chet Atkins tribute CD all not televised... but I thought the overall quality of the show was superior than many of the previous years... cool to see Jeff Beck doing the Les Paul 'How High The Moon'.. good on y'all |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: SINSULL Date: 01 Feb 10 - 04:45 PM The article is on line and supposedly appeared in the audience section of Sunday's paper. Nice write up, guys: http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=312069&ac=Home |

Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: GUEST,999 Date: 01 Feb 10 - 08:58 PM I'd written to Kendall with congratulations, and despite not walking out with a Grammy, my remark still stands: how many folks do you know who've made it to the top five in a category? IMO, after that it's a craps shoot. Best to Jacqui, Dan and Kendall and the artists who contributed to the project. In the parlance, "Ya done good!" |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: kendall Date: 01 Feb 10 - 09:39 PM I don't feel bad at all. Fact is, I'm the only clam digger from Machias who ever got nominated for a Grammy! Machias was settled in 1742. |
Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: Nancy King Date: 01 Feb 10 - 09:42 PM I love Midchuck's picture! Somehow what keeps going through my poor misguided mind is "I just don't look good naked anymore..." |

Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominatio From: Janie Date: 01 Feb 10 - 11:22 PM Back to the fashion department. Geeta looked stunning in both dresses. Still awaiting a good photo of Jacqui in her finery. If one wasn't taken in LA, Jacqui, we insist you dress up again for a photo shoot to be posted here on Mudcat! Any pics of Kendall's girls at or near the scene of the crime? And Dan, when I showed SumYungSun the photo of you with Weird Al, he was suddenly interested! Might even inspire him to come with me to the Getaway next year to meet the man in the pic with Weird Al! (I'll have to convince him to leave his drum set at home - could be a problem:>) |

Subject: RE: Congrats! Kendall,Jacqui &Dan Grammy nominations!! From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Feb 10 - 02:39 PM I've just got up - at about 1.30 - I was totally wasted this morning so stayed in bed reading all morning. The travel back was on time and OK but does get very tedious. I had a good time at the Grammys, but not an experience I would want to repeat, as if there will ever be another chance! I finally got home at 2.00am - arrived in Boston at 10.00pm but no bus until 11.25 and then a two hour journey to Portland. Poor Kendall also had to stay up until then to come and get me from the station so we both went to bed very late, but not before he was given his Grammy medal, which he has been wearing all day now! He will be cooking dinner. I'm going to check the net and then veg out in front of the TV and catch up with the stuff I put on tape over the weekend. Pics will follow. I've still got to download mine and get hold of whatever Deb took. Dan downloaded a lot from Charlie Pilser and I'm hoping to get copies and do a set on flickr that I can post here, but probably not today. |
