I KNEW I was supposed to be guarding the Glenlivet this weekend. I thought it was on the other coast though. I bet both of 'em were great parties! Glad y'all had a great time!

Welcome back Art!

we had a great time today, at the Lifetime achievement awards, which included tributes to some luminaries I really appreciated, like Honeyboy Williams, Leonard Cohen and Loretta Lynn. There was even a tribute to Thomas Edison, and it doesn't get any more luminary than that!

The nominee reception was great fun. Photos from today are forthcoming (some are already up for those on Facebook, including two on my public page. You can access these even if you don't do Facebook. No cameras allowed at the Staples Center, so pictures on the red carpet will be cell phone pics, and then all cameras off for the ceremony. Sorry guys.

It's great hanging out with Jacqui, Brendan, Cathy Fink an d Marcy Marxer, and Charlie Pilzer, among many others. And we're thinking about all the folks who deserve to be here, who made this album work with their love and their time and their talent. I'm especially thinking of Jean Ritchie, since reading the update on her gradual recovery. And Kendall, whose recovery is also too slow, but he was asking for it.

After multiple phone calls and messages, Jacqui finally tied in with a local radio show for a live interview. Kendall told me that it was AM so he couldn't get it. By the time I tuned the radio we heard, Thanks, Jacqui. That was Jacqui Morse...

It is so frustrating. They keep cutting away from the ceremony itself to show red carpet interviews. Interviews conducted by MySpace talking to "big stars!"

*sigh*

I actually like watching the process, and see the bands tuning up, etc.

And if they promise that they'll be airing the pretelecast ceremony, I'd prefer that they actually show the ceremony. I don't care about the history of Michael Jackson's moonwalk.

Well, polkas are fine and dandy, but that name is sure a groaner...

(not that we're immune to groaners around here).

As far as I'm concerned, the really interesting part of the Grammies have already happened.

And I'm kind of surprised at all the music considered "not big enough for Prime Time". Classical and folk and spoken word, I kind of expected to be on the low-key end of the spectrum, but not these:

Country
Latin
Rock
Pop (??!!)
Rap
R&B
Hard Rock
Heavy Metal
Music Video Short Form

um... What else is left?

The great variety of music out there is great. But the Music "Biz" is bland as a... really bland thing (I was going to say "bland as Hell," but according to most accounts, Hell is anything but bland).
